As middleman to the magical community at large, Adrian Hartworth never sticks around. His nomadic lifestyle keeps him a step ahead of friends, enemies, and all too often, law enforcement. Then he saves Abby Simmons and her grandfather, only to find himself unofficially adopted into their unlucky family. Years of experience tell him that the cancer killing Abby is anything but natural. His instincts say flee.

Driven by the guilt of a past filled with bad choices, Hartworth delves into Abby’s misfortunes and the town’s dark past. What he discovers lands him at the heart of a century-old battle against an evil he knows he cannot defeat. The man who never sticks around will face a choice: take a stand against a power that will crush him, or a leave a young girl to die and damn thousands in the process.

THE MIDNIGHT GROUND is a book from the Original Cyberpunk's Rampant Loon Press that has been compared to the Harry Dresden and John Constantine stories and is free on Amazon today.

Thank you. I started reading it and the hook was set pretty early. I'll be keeping up with it.

Claimed. Can never have to many books

I think this is the first thing I'll read on Amazon since the free "There will be war" books from a few years ago.

In case any of my fellow Englishmen want a bit of lockdown 2.0 reading, nothing came up searching the title on Search the author's name and scroll down a bit, ignore the ku thing and click through.

Or this link might work

Thanks SDL, one can hope that it´s more like the earlier Dresden books because the last ones have been Emo af as the Vibrant crowd says and I have not even bothered with the latest one. A new tip is indeed welcome.

One would almost think that most authors have gotten orders to write as colorless, hopeless and depressing as possible but that would be ludicrous.

I'll read it, the review it. Good so far.

Picked it up as well - if Vox recommends, then I see no reason to abstain.

Enoch the Red is a great character too.

Picked it up. I no longer have much patience with characters who think it's cool and superior to be not one of those than stinky small town Christians. You know how backwards and sexist those southern rubes can be.

But it's well-told so far. I'll give the writer that.

So far it is better than the later Dresden books

Well written, subtle and then waves of action.. The climax looks fractured, but that might be the effect of standing inside a figurative nuclear blast. Need to re-read that.

Ok, this may not be the place to put it, but I thought I would call attention to it.

A comment from Anonymous Conservative, wlindsaywheeler, included this link which was very interesting:

This is the interesting point at the end of the article:

In 2016, I contacted my mystery man to ask him about the Trump-Clinton election, expecting to hear that Donald Trump was another one of their left/right controlled puppets. But to my surprise, he said, "Donald Trump is not with us." Which actually made sense because groomies were very controlled and on guard all the times. Also, my guess is that if Donald Trump became a Mason, he is only a first or second degree and hopefully he renounced that.

Finally, people want to know: Why Donald Trump has not arrested Hillary Clinton and all the other swamp criminals. Answer: Because Hillary and all the rest are not US Citizens. Hillary and the gang are State Nationals. Our U.S. admiralty courts and department of justice are only set-ups to convict Federal US citizens. The entire underpinning of the US government along with the US presidential position was stripped from the original and is not legally based--it does not actually exist and insiders like Hillary know the legal maneuvers to make themselves exempt and immune. They can only be brought to justice through the military courts or common law courts.

To understand this every American needs to read Anna Von Reitz's Some Assembly Required

Watch American hero: Russell-Jay: Gould. War Castles series and The Last Flag Standing

I pray Americans work together. Realize that this county was founded when 56 leaders of their communities signed the Declaration of Independence putting their life on the line for Freedom. Please stop any infighting and let's work together to save humanity from this Satanic New World Order and Dark Brotherhood, in Jesus Christ's name, Amen.

Excellent book. Thank you for pointing out the link to the freebie. I'll probably end up buying another of Dontigney's works.

I'd rather read the finished ASOS

#6, the last Dresden book is the worst. No climax, no resolution of any conflicts. It ends as if it is only the first half of a book. I suspect he is tired of writing them.

Blogger OvergrownHobbit November 02, 2020 12:01 AM

@17 Are you speaking of both Battle Ground and Peace Talks? Because yes, the first is only half a book. The two together are one story. And the problem with Dresden files is the creeping convergence of the author.

I don't know what happened to the Mr.Butcher, but barring a come-to-Jesus experience for the fellow, don't count on his series surviving.

Which is also true of Midnight Ground. Unless I discover the author has converted, I'm done. I will not read demons and possession, and mystic horror stories from a writer who not only finds Christ merely one among a pantheon of powers (and an inferior one at that) but subtly and skillfully weaves every corrupted trope of the 20th C into his story.

And it's a damned fine page-turner.
