Original Backer's Edition

Now that we’ve ordered the proofs for final approval, there are only a few more days left to either a) order Vols. 1-3 of the Junior Classics hardcovers or b) preorder the 10-volume leather set before we start shipping the former. We have added a special Original Backer logo to the back of every hardcover produced in this first print run, and Original Backer’s Edition is also noted on the title page of each hardcover and leatherbound volume, as shown here. Subsequent print runs will precisely match the Original Backer's Edition on the bookshelf, but will lack these signifiers.

Note the original artwork by Arkhaven’s Lacey Fairchild, which for Volume Three features the classic Greek tale of Hercules fighting the Hydra. It was our goal to produce the best edition of the Junior Classics to date, in terms of both aesthetics and content, and we are increasingly confident that the production team has managed to do that.

As a satisfied customer of Castalia Library leather bound books, I am happy for the Junior Classics customers to receive their leather in the near future.

Not too near, mind you. We won't produce the leather sets until all 10 hardcovers are complete.

That's Lacy's drawing? But Hercules doesn't look like a mouse!

That is a top-notch cover. Boys will love looking at it. Lacey has been producing excellent artwork.

Blogger upchuckmcduck November 24, 2020 11:17 AM

Are the leather bound books going to be like the Castalia Library ones?

Blogger Rhino Bear November 24, 2020 11:17 AM

Wow. Excellent work Lacey.

Blogger VD November 24, 2020 11:25 AM

Yes, the quality of the leather Junior Classics will be the same level as the Castalia Library. Italian cowhide, 22k gold on the spine, gold foil on the covers, Smyth-sewn pages of archival paper. Each volume will be a different color similar to the hardcover, though a bit more restrained.

When will the ebooks be available for those of us in the cheap seats?
Thanks for all the hard work on everyone's part. Sorry if I overlooked where that's already been stated.

The cover looks fantastic, picking up a set of the leatherbound as well. I have been very satisfied with the library books so far.

Will all the volumes be the same dimensions to look as a set?

Blogger CF Neal November 24, 2020 11:51 AM

Hey, I'm at the checkout, and it asked me for my discount code, and I'm just checking, if, you know ...

hehe

NOT cheap, just THRIFTY.

Blogger Tomato bear November 24, 2020 12:10 PM

VD, can we get the ebook version?

Blogger VD November 24, 2020 12:16 PM

After the relevant hardcovers ship. So 1-3 will go out well before Christmas.

Will all the volumes be the same dimensions to look as a set?

Of course. The spines are specifically designed to look like a set. Everything lines up.

I apologize because I know this kind of comment annoys you. I tried the other channels first, and got no response. I recently signed up for Unauthorized. About 1/2 the reason I did so was to get on SocialGalactic. Will that happen? Or did I misunderstand something.

I'm excited. I grew up reading an old set of the JC, and it'll be great to be able to do the same for my own kids. I've been able to find old editions, but they've been worn down at best.

This is amazing. Can't pretend I'm not happy with having the Original Backers Edition. Well done to all the people that made this possible. Generational work.

Here's what the first three spines look like together:

I'm reminded of the school district cast-offs from the early 60s that I read & reread as a kid. The lifespan of these books promise to be measured in generations.

Meanwhile, at the SJW trainwreck, comics pro & youtuber Ya Boi Zack complained that he could not recall a single detail from the latest Iron Man comic the moment after flipping past the last page of the floppy. In another cast, he compared the next generation of Marvel staff to erectile dysfunction or diabetes personified and described a twenty-something as rotting from the inside out.

The skinsuits promise to rot quickly off of the backs of the SJWs.

Vols 1-3 ordered.
Cheers Vox, am looking forward to reading them to my boy,I'll have to , he's only 16 weeks, he struggles a bit just now, can't turn the pages in the right direction!

Blogger NewTunesForOldLogos November 24, 2020 2:00 PM

Fantastic. Looking forward to reading these to and with the kids.

I'm excited about getting the ebooks (thanks to an anonymous donor who helped me out during the Kickstarter), but I'm definitely going to have to get the hardcover set for my son. And my wife is just going to have to accept that. Now that we have money in the bank after selling our house and moving, it's time to invest in some important things. And I don't means stocks and bonds.

Absolutely beautiful. Archeologists will melee over them someday.

Blogger sammibandit November 24, 2020 4:40 PM

Way to go, Lacey. It's modern but classic. Everything I could have hoped for in that image. He was rumored to be blonde or fair haired and I see that displayed.

I can't wait to begin reading aloud from these books to my children.

Blogger Yukichi Sensei November 24, 2020 5:47 PM

Worthy use of my money. Bought a set to read with my kids.

Blogger Hammerli 280 November 24, 2020 5:48 PM

I have two grand-nephews, ordered two sets. The kids are 3 and 4, so this is likely to be a Christmas 2021 or 22 gift. Get your shopping done early. :-)

Blogger Sarah Martin November 24, 2020 6:27 PM

Oh, I am so excited for this! Beautiful drawing and I love the border too, so simple and elegant. Lovely layout.
Thanks so much for the update!

Sorry this is OT: I ordered volumes 1-3 of junior classics on arkhaven and have a typo in my address. Any pointers on how to get it fixed ? I emailed the arkhaven help/support distro, and haven't seen a response for over a week.

Blogger Glen Sprigg November 25, 2020 1:03 PM

The price that comes up for the three-volume set is $114.99. Is that in US dollars, or Canadian? I'm assuming it's US, but it would be a pleasant surprise to be wrong.

Also, how are discount codes obtained? Or is that a subscription-only thing?
