Out of the frying pan

And into the gatekeeper? I can't guarantee this is true, because I'm not on Parler.

Maybe I’m late to the party, but did y’all know Parler is not allowing links to Vox’s blog?

But if it is true, you might want to rethink the wisdom of joining yet another social media platform intended to police your thinking, even if it is by cuckservatives rather than SJWs.

UPDATE: It's confirmed. I am dangerous, Par...ler.

I wonder how many places currently ban me? Let's see:

  • Consimworld
  • SFWA
  • Google Mountain View campus
  • Twitter
  • Indiegogo
  • Parler
That's pretty tame in comparison with Big Bear, actually.

It's true, I just tried to post the link to this very artice and it said "URL has been restricted".

Blogger SonyAD November 10, 2020 8:10 AM

Evidently, in this day and age, we need cyber rights legislation similar to civil rights legislation. Which explicitly outlaws shadow banning, de-platforming, censorship, censorship by proxy (suspension or banning).

Blogger DiGi377 November 10, 2020 8:12 AM

Confirmed.

Blogger SecondComingOfBast November 10, 2020 8:27 AM

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but anytime you hear somebody touting a new social media platform that is "fair" and believes in "free speech" it's only a matter of time before it is infiltrated and brought to heel. That's assuming it's not just a big come-on to begin with.

Blogger jimdhill November 10, 2020 8:28 AM

Blogger tenor_general November 10, 2020 8:44 AM

I know there was some issue with some other websites that got them supposedly “caught in an automated spam filter,” so maybe that’s happening here? Or maybe that was just how they walked back their blocking of those links at the time.

Blogger Cappuccinobear November 10, 2020 8:51 AM

Yes, the good the true and the beautiful are the outlaws. Therefore the inlaws are null and void.

I was playing a starwars mobile game called galaxy of heroes, run bu disney, electronic arts,, and capital games, until not long ago. In the chat, I typed Jesus, and his glorious name came up all asterisks like it was a curse word. So I tested a few others... Jew is also a curse word, Satan was fine, Mohammed was also ok.
Its almost like evil doesn't even need to hide anymore, and people still can't see it.

It absolutely seems like a civilization wide test. The more it fails, the more evil is exposed if you have eyes to see.

Blogger inglorious November 10, 2020 8:55 AM

It probably won't do any good but I just emailed Dan Bongino about it. He's part owner of Parler and he's always talking about censorship by facebook, twitter and google. I told him if he's going to censor a blog like Voxday then he better quit bitching about censorship from the big 3.

After the Gab debacle I swallowed my pride and took Vox' advice. No Twitter, no Facebook, no Parler.

Never missed any of them, the slimy cesspits.

Social Galactic is like an idealised Victorian smoking lounge in comparison, and getting to finance alternative platforms is the icing on the cake (or the brandy in the snifter, if you prefer).

Blogger CF Neal November 10, 2020 9:13 AM

Blogger MarkyMark November 10, 2020 9:20 AM

I'm on Parler. They're rolling out new versions of the software regularly. It was very buggy when I first joined. It still is, but it's improving. Parler's also growing rapidly. How could it not? Twitter's gotten so ban happy as of late. There are a lot of people migrating to Parler right now, and its infrastructure is probably overwhelmed. I'd attribute the OP's problems to a buggy software and rapid growth for now.

Blogger Unknown November 10, 2020 9:20 AM

I spent about 2-weeks on Parler after deleting my Gab account. Ugh.

I've had far more interesting and enlightening interaction on SG over the last month or so than several years on Gab and could immediately see it was going to be no better (if not worse) on Parler.

Much appreciate to VD and team for making SG available. Absolutely see now the value of subscription services over "free". Painfully obvious, really.

Any organization that don't explicitly gatekeep against subversion will be converged over time. Don't forget Twitter started off as a libertarian platform too.

The moment platforms like Gab and Parler becomes big enough money and infiltrators will flood them and converge them because they have no safeguards against convergence.

@57 There was a mass of Alt-Retard just after Gab's founding that was going after everything and anything that didn't quite jive with their extremely narrow worldview. Just heard about Parler from a former co-worker on FB..(I keep it open for legal reasons), he was proud to announce he was on a "conservative, non-biased non censoring" social media. The very first comment for his post was sone female he knows telling him it was for neo-nazis and white hate groups who hate black people. Apparently anything that isnt rainbows and diversity is automatically racist.

Stephen wrote:@Scuzzaman. Gab debacle?? I've just found Gab and I am liking it due to Torba being fiercely independent. No conservative gatekeepers or 'we are on your side...really' vibes. Is there something I should be aware of?

It's not so much something you "should be aware of" so much of Gab is not the "Free Speech" panacea it gets sold as being.

When Gab first started, it was pretty awesome at least compared to twatter - which I have never belonged to.

There were, however, some chinks in the armor that Torba and crew did not see. They seemed to operate under a "claiming we are for free speech will protect us no matter what" toddler's eye view of the world.

A few things came to a head. One was a dispute between VD and some of Gab's nuttier members that were pretty obviously plants. Another was Gab getting kicked of its DNS service for "wrongthink." There were a few other instances.

I'm glossing over it on purpose so as to not dredge up too much old history or make the discussion about Vox; let's just say Torba showed some stripes that some of his defenders both then and now were and would be shocked to see.

His "commitment" to "free speech" made him lie in bed with some interesting "allies."

I've checked back in a few times since then. I've tried to re-engage there. Heck, I had a few friends on Gab from the early days, folks I was in contact with irl.

But, it's not the same. No; the conflicts alluded to above tainted Gab forever, and opened the door for a MUCH lower brow level of discourse and interaction.

It was FAR, FAR better early on, back when membership approval had to be gotten, before it was "open to the public" and before Torba sided with nutters in the name of "Free Speech."

Anyone else here that was active on Gab back then can confirm or correct my overview account.

Blogger rotekz November 10, 2020 10:59 AM

@60 Gab is not a honeypot Leahn. CEO Andrew Torba is a solid Christian.

Confirmed. Says the "site is restricted." Really gives the lie to their whole 'free speech site' thing. Although they DO allow Alex Jones and the whole Zero Hedge crew - which is just fine, mind you, have no problems there, but it seems odd they'd be allowed and the FAR more rational (usually) VD isn't.

Bullshit. There is no default "ban this site" that occurs. You have to actively code it. There is no way this can be a random bug. It is intentional.

Gab doesn't even have that information about me, how can they disclose it? I'm assuming they aren't paying big bucks for access to browser and/or user interaction fingerprinting services and making that data available to users willy-nilly.

Can you cite some cases where this has happened? Quick searches now with Bing, DuckDuckGo, and Google failed to reveal any such thing.

This.

You summed it up much better than I did.

The Alt-Retard brigading that Torba defended would have pushed me out even without the specific beef with VD.

That allowed and supported the same kind of twatter behavior that he claimed led him to found Gab was a major red flag.

When I check Gab nowadays, which only occurs about once a year, it is underwhelming and boring. Torba gutted himself of many good posters by trying to be a "free speech purist."

I originally left Gab for two reasons: the feud (Vox supported Gab heavily in the beginning) and a lack of worthwhile content. Neon Revolt dragged me back in kicking after he stopped posting on his site as often. There are some light e-celebs that genuinely engage so it doesn't feel like the blue check brigade like on Twitter. Groups is one of its biggest strengths. I use the Block button liberally to get rid of trolls, abusers, suspected globois, and general idiots. Don't know about the dox policies but generally speaking it's changed from pure free speech to protected first amendment speech.

Don't get too attached to MeWe.

1. It's owned by the Chinese, which means it's owned by the Chinese Communist Party.

2. The CCP wants Biden elected so they can go back to business as usual of sucking all of our industry and money out of us.

3. Eventually, MeWe will act accordingly to (2).

The Detroit VA hospital on John R was doing the same thing with voxday.blogspot.com, but not voxday.blogspot.co.uk, so I was using that for a while, then all voxday links were blocked ("Wacism!!!")... then a few months later, no more blocks.

Blogger Akulkis November 10, 2020 2:30 PM

As the result, ALL blogpost sites are not uploading in Parler at the present.

Doesn't make sense. It takes more CPU power to block (accidentally or otherwise) blogspot URLS then to not even be checking in the first place (not checking requires precisely 0 CPU clock cycles).

Blogger Revelation Means Hope November 10, 2020 2:31 PM

Just got on Parler to help them kick Twitters ass. I want Twitter hammered hard and I am 100% sure Parler is not on the side of freedom, but I want Twitter to double down on their insanity and drive the rest of conservatives off their platform.

Blogger Storm Rhode November 10, 2020 2:33 PM

Vox, you made an alternative to facebook on infogalactic. Can you open it up and take as revenue from nonconverged businesses to pay for it?

Blogger Akulkis November 10, 2020 2:37 PM

>> I'm getting the same "URL is restricted" popup with all links to blogspot URLs, not just this blog. Seems to be a bug.

That's not a bug. Do you think it's just an *accident* that some code running the site is searching for ".blogspot." and blocking any comment/post containing that string?

That's a very precise "accident"

So, no, it's not a glitch or a bug, it's something that was deliberately placed there (most likely a file containing a list of banned URL patterns, and someone deliberately put *.blogspot.* into that file).

That's as accidental as a right-uppercut to the jaw.

Blogger Bezzle November 10, 2020 2:39 PM

Get in the habit of using archive.is links instead of native URLs for *everything*. It only takes a minute to create a new one.

Blogger Akulkis November 10, 2020 2:42 PM

>> I'd be tempted to chalk this up to a bug, but I'm able to link to other blogspot blogs.

Even if it were to the entire .blogspot.com domain (plus .ca, .co.uk, .co.in, etc.) that's still not a BUG... that's the software doing exactly what SOMEONE wrote it out to do, with either hardcoded values, or reading the pattern out of a "banned URL's" file.

NOTHING about it could be accidental, unless ALL http and/or https links were being banned. And even then, that could still be deliberate.

Heavily hints that the voter fraud is real, significant, and that the legal process will prove it and confirm Trump's victory.

Regarding the "can't post any blogspot.com link" rationalization...

I tried one that I know and it posted without issue, but I did try another mentioned here (the Ann Althouse blog) and that would not post.

One thing that is certain: Parler has had a ton of new users added in the past week, similar if not greater than the big surge they had back in June. In recent days I have received parleys from MILO but was not able to open them due to a "network error". There is a possibility this could all be a part of growing pains.

However, none of this rules out the possibility of subtle censorship, in which case Parler is nothing more than a social media ghetto.

Time will tell.

Blogger Noah B. November 10, 2020 4:07 PM

Bullshit. There is no default "ban this site" that occurs. You have to actively code it. There is no way this can be a random bug. It is intentional.

Is it possible that Parler is using a third party URL blocker that is supposed to only block sites like porn, phishing and malware, and that some SJW has added VP to the URL blocker list? If so it's possible that, once made aware of this issue, Parler can dump their current URL blocker.

Blogger RadixMalorum November 10, 2020 4:51 PM

Do not trust any of these platforms that advocate for "free speech" popping up. At best they are made by ignorant libertarian types that will be quickly converged once they become big enough. Most likely they are just another set of platforms setup by the establishment to retreat to because their current big tech platforms are failing.

I can guarantee Parler will be just as bad as Twitter or worse in under 5 years. Remember Twitter and Facebook started off as libertarian platform too.

Blogger Newscaper312 November 10, 2020 5:56 PM

Try manually putting https:// in front of the URL. The non secure url doesn't seem to redirect to the secure one by default, and some browsers now default to blocking non secure urls, forcing you to intentionally go there. In Chrome the not secure site warning page hides it under a small Advanced link IURC.

Blogger MarkyMark November 10, 2020 6:17 PM

Guys,

Parler has grown by leaps and bounds! It's signed up 5 million new users since Friday. When I joined, there were less than a million users on the platform. To anyone having problems with it, it may be a simple matter of waiting for the infrastructure, both software and hardware, to catch up. Read more here: https://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2020/11/parler-sees-major-growth-boom-big-tech-continues-censor-suppress-election-news-nearly-5m-new-users-since-friday/?utm_source=Parler&utm_medium=PostTopSharingButtons&utm_campaign=websitesharingbuttons

Getting on new platforms that promise free speech is like getting on a boat with the very same structural flaws that cause your last boat to degrade and capsize.

They use "free speech" to infiltrate and then when they're in sufficient control there's no more free speech for their enemies. That's how it always worked.

@142 "Supreme Dark Lord is what his enemies call him you idiot. You've got to be totally disingenuous to make that statement or speaking from a position of absolute willful ignorance."

New here, are yeh? The much and rightly vaunted John C. WRIGHT named Vox Day the Supreme Dark Lord of the Evil Legion of Evil.

If you would delve into the ascension of the Dark Lord -- go here and read. Do not be drinking or you'll baptize your monitor multiple times. Take to read also the long and fervent gathering of commenters, eager to join.

Therein you will find:

"I also hereby decree, declare, announce and enact the creation of the Evil League of Evil! A subdivision of the Technocracy! Also, I am creating a Vast Rightwing Conspiracy,..."

and also the public naming:

"I hereby will vote Vox Day our Supreme Dark Lord, declare Larry Correia to be our International Lord of Hate, decree Sarah Hoyt to be our Beautiful but Evil Space Princess whom we all love and obey... "

"Supreme Dark Lord" is NOT what his enemies call him -- to would burn their tongues to speak the words! -- it is what his devoted followers call him! Do, please, end your own "absolute willful ignorance."
