Monday surprises

This is being reported by multiple sources.

President Trump to pardon Julian Assange.

It looks as if a lot of secrets are about to be revealed, starting today.

UPDATE: PA Republicans select an alternate set of electors:

At the request of the Trump campaign, the Republican presidential electors met today in Harrisburg to cast a conditional vote for Donald Trump and Mike Pence for President and Vice President respectively.

“We took this procedural vote to preserve any legal claims that may be presented going forward” said Bernie Comfort, Pennsylvania Chair of the Trump campaign. “This was in no way an effort to usurp or contest the will of the Pennsylvania voters.”

Today’s move by Republican party electors is fashioned after the 1960 Presidential election, in which President Nixon was declared the winner in Hawaii. While Democrat legal challenges were pending, Democratic presidential electors met to cast a conditional vote for John F. Kennedy to preserve their intent in the event of future favorable legal outcomes.

The conditional resolution states that electors certify their vote for the President and Vice President “on the understanding that if, as a result of a final non-appealable Court Order or other proceeding prescribed by law, [they] are ultimately recognized as being the duly elected and qualified Electors for President and Vice President of the United States of America from the State of Pennsylvania…”

UPDATE: Georgia has also selected a rival set of electors:

Because the President’s lawsuit contesting the Georgia election is still pending, the Republican nominees for Presidential Elector met today at noon at the State Capitol today and cast their votes for President and Vice President.

Keep in mind that if a state submits two sets of electors, the President of the Senate decides which group of electors to hear, as per the precedent set when Rutherford B. Hayes was elected. The President of the Senate is the Vice-President, Mike Pence. He also has the option of leaving the state out of the count.

Someone hacked multiple U.S. government agencies over the weekend, which caused the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) to issue a rare emergency order. I'm hearing that internal emails were the main target.

Also: Google platforms went offline en masse last night.

My hunch: Someone - internal enemies most likely - is trying to figure out what Trump and his people really know and more to the immediate point: what he is prepared to do about it.

Pardoning Assange would put those recent hacks in perspective.

Preparing for a Disputed Presidential Election:
An Exercise in Election Risk Assessment
and Management
Edward B. Foley*
This Article considers the possibility that a major dispute over the
outcome of the 2020 presidential election could arise, even without foreign
interference or some other extraordinary event, but rather just from the
ordinary process of counting ballots. Building upon previous research on
the “blue shift” phenomenon, whereby adjustments in vote tallies during the
canvassing of returns tends to advantage Democratic candidates, it is easy
to imagine a dispute arising if this kind of “blue shift” were consequential
in the presidential race. Using examples from both Pennsylvania and
Arizona, two states susceptible to significant “blue shifts” in previous
elections, the article shows how the dispute could reach Congress, where it
potentially might metastasize into a full-fledged constitutional crisis. The
most frightening scenario is where the dispute remains unresolved on
January 20, 2021, the date for the inauguration of the new presidential term,
and the military is uncertain as to who is entitled to receive the nuclear codes
as commander-in-chief. In order to avoid this risk, Congress should amend
the relevant statute, 3 U.S.C. § 15.

"a lot of secrets"

A wide enough pardon would not only cover items which have been long on the table, but would allow the release of any other information that has not been made privy to anyone else, without criminal legal repercussion. Would imagine a number of people are going to start tapping the mat rater frantically, look for deals. This has been over for quite a while, and is a matter of them figuring it out, as well as the pressure to assist them in doing so.

If they wait for a crossing of the Rubicon, don't expect Brutus to fare well. Floating down the river with his back up more like, TGE smiling at the coming victory.

@71:
My copy of the Constitution says nothing about electors having to meet and vote in the Statehouse - merely within their state. So what are the MI Trump electors doing?
Interestingly, under the 12th Amendment the electors then transmit their certificate, signed and sealed, to the President of the Senate (i.e., Pence); who then opens the seals in the presence of both the House and the Senate. There is nothing in the text of which I'm aware that the Certificate has to go through the Governor, Legislature, or anyone else.
I note that there are still lawsuits pending in all swing states challenging the "results." In any sense of the word, the election is "contested" in all of the swing states. My reading of Pence is that he is not a squish.
I'm done speculating publicly as to the plan, the schedule, or the means of execution. (I can't help speculating, but I can try not to make an ass of myself on this blog with my inexpert guesswork.) I merely observe that Trump remains on offense and smiles often. If he does not have a plan for every contingency he's doing a good job of telling everyone otherwise.

Blogger jrapdx December 14, 2020 4:52 PM

At the risk of heresy, I'm thinking what if President Trump has *already* crossed the Rubicon? Only without fanfare or announcement, operating in stealth mode.

The EC is collecting the votes of electors, including GOP alternative slates. In January Congress considers which electors to accept, meanwhile Trump uses the interval to reveal what he knows about the cheating, arrest miscreants, completely undermine illegally installed Biden electors from swing states, the alternative electors' votes are counted. Trump winds up with >=270 EVs.

OK maybe my imagination is too wild, but it would be in character for Trump to work his magic quietly reaching victory before his enemies even know they lost.

In other MI news, another traitor to add to the list:

"In a statement put out prior to the Electoral College vote on Monday, Chatfield, a Republican, reaffirmed his support for President Trump but said that he could not in good conscience support an effort to have the Legislature choose electors for the incumbent.

“I fought hard for President Trump. Nobody wanted him to win more than me,” Chatfield said. “I think he's done an incredible job. But I love our republic, too. I can't fathom risking our norms, traditions and institutions to pass a resolution retroactively changing the electors for Trump, simply because some think there may have been enough widespread fraud to give him the win. That's unprecedented for good reason. And that’s why there is not enough support in the House to cast a new slate of electors.”

“I fear we'd lose our country forever,” he continued. “This truly would bring mutually assured destruction for every future election in regards to the Electoral College. And I can't stand for that. I won’t. I know this isn’t the outcome some want. It isn’t what I want, either. But we have a republic if we can keep it. And I intend to.”

You are correct, not to worry, but I'm sure you don't.

@Cinqueports

What everyone's forgetting is that Trump literally has a Trump card. Bush 43 installed future POTUS leaders with such massive power they can, in essence, declare themselves Emperor for life, and not step down until the POTUS in power decides. Especially with critical active military and the majority of the population on his side.

Pence will keep accepting his Ed McMahon role, as even the Electoral College vote will become moot, if Trump wills it. That's why Flynn says, "10 out of 10."

yeah, miss me with that ridiculous shit.

If he needs to, I'm sure that Trump will lay it out clearly to Pence. Make him aware of reality, and what would happen if he thought cucking would get him anywhere.

He has the enemy's playbook -- because that's exactly what they intended to do.

Well, she wasn't expected to last forever, so, selected for her as her warm-bucket-of-spit running-mate was this vetted critter who was only 58 years old at the time. Tom Kaine. I'd completely forgotten about him, and had to look it up. For a three year period between January 2017 and 2020, he was almost invisible, and you know they're a more-important-than-usual deep state cog when they're kept out of the spotlight while their other critters are up on the catwalk performing their face/heel kayfabe turns for the cameras. "Why No One Seems to Be Talking About Tim Kaine Anymore" breathed the Washingtonian in 2019.)

Just look at that pedofaced inbred mongoloid-looking motherfucker, and imagine that milk-curdling visage staring down at you from giant posters every day in your Brave New World smart-city GULAG apartment bloc. Every day for another forty years.
