Disney bans Peter Pan

Because raciss. I doubt they'll be showing The Song of the South anytime soon:

Generations of children have been charmed by the magical tale of the boy who never grew up, but Peter Pan is now on a list of banned movies.

Bosses at Disney have blocked anyone under the age of seven from watching the 1953 animated classic on its streaming service over concerns that it portrays racial stereotypes, The Mail on Sunday can reveal.

Three other long-standing family favourites – The Aristocats, Swiss Family Robinson and Dumbo – have also been removed from children’s accounts for breaching ‘content advisories’ that were recently put in place.

I simply cannot wait to go into competition with the Devil Mouse. It's Under-7s today, everyone tomorrow.

The Swiss Family Robinson, because of the source material, is one of the only definitively Christian movies Disney made.
I'm surprised they haven't disowned it entirely.

Peter Pan was gay anyway

Blogger Chris Lopes January 23, 2021 9:48 PM

I had to look up the movie to get the "unacceptable" parts. What the SJW's don't understand is what is shown is a kid's idea of the perfect life. The pirates and indians aren't supposed to represent their real world counterparts. Stupid people gotta be stupid.

If you want to practise censorship, I can imagine worse ways than enacting very long copyright terms, then creating or funding a "private company" to acquire copyright in things you want banned and then refrain from publishing them.

Personally, I'd be keen on amending the copyright and patent power to the effect that a patent or copyright lapses permanently once the holder lets the item go out of production or out of print, or withdraws it from sale on the open market.

Swiss Family Robinson? That's a weird one to ban. I mean there is a thousand other versions you can watch, many in public domain. But as someone who has read the original around a hundred times I struggle to think of anything in the source material objectionable even in current year.

You and I think alike. Copyright is premised on merchantability, not maintaining secrecy.

Of the owner doesn't want to merchandise it, then the owner is asserting that he believes it to be commercially worthless, and so any claim for continuing copyright protection should be null and void.

@17 "Basically everything Disney has ever made has reinforced binary gender stereotypes. This is not OK."

Sorta-maybe funny? When Lion King came out long ago, my lives-in-California these past 35+ years sister and I went to see it. I thought it was eh, kinda cute, kinda silly, no big deal. 5-6 out of 10?

She came out STEAMING and SNARLING and furious because the lionesses had ("had") to go hunt and kill their dinner and then the lion would come sweeping in and eat first. She was stomping and swearing.... and I was like: "but... but... That's real! That's NATURE! That's how it actually WORKS for lion packs! The lionesses catch dinner, and the lion eats first because if the hyenas come to steal it, the lionesses CANNOT defend it, but the lion can and does! So, their part is to catch dinner; HIS part it to keep dinner for himself, his girls, and the cubs!"

Stomp! Flail! Snarl! Growl! "Damn all men! Damn Patriarchy! Damn Disney brainwashing little girls!!!"

"Uh. Okay? But, really, that IS how Nature works!" {sigh}

Everything anyone made up to a few years ago violates current year's PC restrictions. If they can be encouraged to ride this virtue spiral all the way to the bottom, they'll ban 99% of Hollywood's past output.

Disney peddles child porn as far as I can tell.

And it grooms its little stars to become like Miley Cyrus.

Also, promotion of sodomy seems far more harmful than some mild racial stereotypes in the past.

And speaking of racial stereotypes, Jewish-run media are full of anti-white messages.

And who made all those MUSLIMS-ARE-TERRORIST movies? Jews in Hollywood.

Jews need to own up for their massive indulgence in 'hate speech'.

Ever since Michael Eisner took over running Disney it has gone down hill. Stanley Gold and Roy Disney Jr. battled with him for years with no success. I grew up going to Disneyland before Eisner and his tribe took it over. There was no park that compared to Disneyland in Anaheim pre 1984.

That would be the real reason. I'd guess the official reason probably has something to do with race. The pirate captain was played by a Japanese actor. I don't remember much about the movie, but the portrayal of any Asian in those days would make today's SJWs faint from the shocking racism.

There's a very powerful scene in the book 101 Dalmations where the dogs take shelter in a church that is warm, with the door ajar, but mysteriously empty. It's implied that it is God providing a small miracle to the dogs. Of course it was stripped from the movie.

I loved those cartoons as a kid. Peter Pan. Jungle Book. Robin Hood. Riki Tiki Tavi. They were wonderfully done. Charlotte's Web was another one I enjoyed because back in the day, something for kids coming on television was literally must see teevee. Mercifully where I come from and in my time we were not allowed to watch such filth; I have never seen a Disney cartoon - except for Mary Poppins which I know is now problematic what with Dick Van Dyke blacking up - the only other Disney I have seen is Summer Magic, not a cartoon, but where Hayley Mills (aged seventeen going on thirteen) received her first screen kiss. Yes they really sold it on that. One had to see.

What gets me these days is the British Board of Film Censors categorisations. There were U cert films meaning for general exhibition, A cert films where those over fouteen but under sixteen had to be accompanied by an adult - just in case but no one ever explained what and X cert films where only over sixteens were permitted. Cinemas needing to make money however would turn a blind eye to a strict enforcement of the code. These days the X films strike me as dull but the U films I look at and wonder frequently 'how did they get THAT past the censor?'.

It'll get banned because it might lead kids to the book, which is mercilessly and brutally opposed to that concept. Or because the orangutans "are black stereotypes". Probably the latter.

"Wow, they are not a business. They are something else..."

Usually it's some snark about how all males are lazy and profit solely from the work of women, generally spouted by people who love SCIENCE! and believe that in all other cases, doing what is "natural", that is what ever they feel like at the moment, is good and right and in fact irresistible.

And what you'll get is infantilised Granddaughters and Soyboy Grandsons!

My sister was educated by Disney she has 4 boys, and thinks flying the Atlantic to take them to Disneyland is a good holiday (coz she wanted to go) instead of for example, Kayaking in Europe in the Dordoyne, they never have and never will, as their uncle I tried, took them snowboarding in Andorra, kayaking the Wye, camping etc, until I was asked not to come around because I pointed out the damage constant TV was doing to the youngest's brain (2 yrs old) on the bright side, it was good practise, for when BB sold the idea of having my own children to me.
Onwards to Beartaria.

Disney sure is concerned about children's minds.

Oddly enough, their central media product, Star Wars, featured heroines who had a body type like a y year old boy... except the romance partner for the black guy was body positive.

Blogger Dark Herald January 24, 2021 9:24 AM

I just did a three part story on Fall of Disney Animation at the Arkhaven Comics Blog. It was only meant to be single post but the disaster that is Disney animation is big subject.

If there is one thing that Disney trained executives universally fail at, it is processing bad news that will remain bad news.

No matter how bad some event is, Disney trained execs are always going to try and find “a spoon full of sugar” from somewhere. Doesn’t matter if it is an extinction-level event, they are going to view every problem as an opportunity, even if it is obviously an insoluble opportunity.

Optimism is nice and all. But when you are deep in the woods, no cell service, no radio, no compass or map and there is a blizzard coming in. It is not the time to wander slowly around examining the beauty and wonders of nature.

After the abject failure of Soul and the collapse of the Disney channels, the truth that they are magnificently failing to face is that they no longer have the ability to make movies or even TV that children like.

Let me restate that.

Disney (freaking) Entertainment has LOST the kid’s market.

By every conceivable metric (except SJW critical approval), they have lost the audience that built the company.
