Never trust the gatekeepers
You may recall that I told you Parler was never a viable option to Twitter. But John Matze tries to convince conservatives who were dumb enough to be taken in by an obvious trap that he wasn't in on the shutdown.
Sunday at midnight Amazon will be shutting off all of our servers in an attempt to completely remove free speech off the internet. There is the possibility Parler will be unavailable on the internet for up to a week as we rebuild from scratch. We prepared for events like this by never relying on amazons proprietary infrastructure and building bare metal products.
We will try our best to move to a new provider right now as we have many competing for our business, however Amazon, Google and Apple purposefully did this as a coordinated effort knowing our options would be limited and knowing this would inflict the most damage right as President Trump was banned from the tech companies.
This was a coordinated attack by the tech giants to kill competition in the market place. We were too successful too fast. You can expect the war on competition and free speech to continue, but don't count us out.
First, Matze is a shameless liar. Parler doesn't support free speech at all. Even Gab, which is run by a genuine free speech believer, no longer supports completely free speech due to its actual experience with it. Second, the fact that Parler used AWS as the foundation of its platform makes it obvious that, at the very least, Parler believed that it was safely on the side of the SJWs.
And third, never, ever, trust a tech company that comes out of nowhere with massive resources and gets tremendous media coverage. Unless it is something genuinely groundbreaking - and a Twitter clone is the exact opposite of that - it's being pushed by the ticketmasters of the corpocracy. Parler isn't an true alternative to Twitter, it's just an offshoot designed to corral those who escape from it.
For a genuine alternative to Twitter, join SG. Or, if you still haven't weaned yourself from the cult of free technology yet, get on Gab.
UPDATE: Speaking of not trusting the gatekeepers, the account posting as @realCodeMonkeyZ at Parler is a fake. Do not trust anything that is posted at Parler by anyone.
It has come to my attention that another Parler account is posing as me and publishing information in my name. That account is NOT MINE. I do not have a Parler account and never will. I am ONLY on Gab verified as @codemonkey

I noticed on Gab that all the accounts you listed before you left are now gone off the site. I love and genuinely admire what he's done but he should have listened back then and a lot of problems could have been avoided or at least delayed.
I have made an account at Gab and followed a lot of people. I don't expect I'll post there but it is useful to keep a following of allies. They will of course come for Gab, probably through Cloudflare first but I'm sure they've thought somewhat ahead there.
The Gell Mann amnesia effect doesn't just apply to newspapers, it appears.
Despite incident after incident of sudden infrastructure rescission for at least a decade, every major tech position now deals with one of these major cloud providers who have proven as dependable as Somali warlords.
I've been in the field a decade now, and I'm now actively seeking to leave the field rather than be compelled to feed these frauds by working with their platforms.
How does one get on Social Galactic? Last I checked only those with invitations can use it.
Or just don't bother with social media. I have a facebook account I use very sparingly. I've never been on twitter as my original dislike for it was sound.
You’d think the Kochs or whoever bankrolled Bongino would’ve spent some money on infrastructure. That tells me they never expected it to succeed. Having it all on the cloud makes it easier to pull the plug, kinda like AWS just did to them. Heh.
Found this graphic to be amusing and relevant to the topic at hand:

It's only when the containment board is at last shut down that all the autistic energy is going to finally be focused on creating a proper distributed uncensorable social media platform.
The most likely long-term solution is going to be using IPFS style distributed storage, federated social platforms with user-curated filters, and the processing and storage cost supported by crypto-currency paid by the users/sponsors.
The attacks on BitTorrent made a lot of us focus our energy on making it harder to block, it will now happen to social media.
Are they Bud, Kronenbourg, or Miller elites, I wonder...

I wish Torba listened to VD from the beginning. Ah well, I still like Gab. Open to join, a multitude of "free" speech, filtered by a bit of Logos. It is not perfect by any means.
Same.

sign the ticket, it's free
Is the SG log in the same as my UATV log in info? I've been on UATV for quite some time somehow made it thru the upgrades but did not in any find an invite to SG.
The only reason I would go to parler is Colonel Kurt Schlichter, he is one guy who will actually proceed past discredit and go onto disqualify then delegitimize, the rest of Con Inc is basically brats whining about Mommy Liberal a total waste of a time.
BonGino is running neck and neck with Hannity as to who’s voice brings me to vomiting the fastest.
Both still pale in comparison to Shapiru though.

No, it's dumber and more basic then that. It is simply "muh outsourcing" and "muh free trade." They wanted to avoid the headache of, you know, learning about the technology they are going to use to build their own, because the "economic metrics" made it "cheaper" to just buy what they need.
Parler asks for too much personal information for signup. That alone makes it Glow in the Dark. Absolutely suspicious as hell.
Meh. Most humans, even wealthy humans, haven't committed many cranial processing cycles to actually contemplating in depth the idea of "Free Speech" or to come to grips with the left's entrenched opposition to the expression of truth.
Kinda like Trump not expecting the to be opposed with tooth and claw, they can be much like boomers wandering around bumping into things in this way.
Don't rule out nefarious deeds, but don't rule out "high on their own supply", either.
CodeMonkey knows.

I am an admitted luddite, having little technical skill outside of Windows XP, so perhaps my question only betrays my ignorance on how such things work but... doesn't the guy contradict himself here?
Looks like CodeMonkeyZ created a Gab account and had previously only posted a couple of times to it.
Supposedly it's the only account he'll post at, for now anyway.
Here's the official Gab profile
So I guess it's back to smoke signals and carrier pigeons then.
The Chief Policy Officer at Parler wants Iran turned into glass:

The people she joins in such an evil stand think President Trump is Hitler and that Biden must win:

Just search Amy Peikoff on AirWatch.com.
That's the kind of people running Parler. It's a flytrap, or a trapdoor you're being invited to stand on.
Use Social Galactic, Telegram, and Gab.
I've no dog in your fight VD but it occurs to me your comments and link to SG would find fertile ground at Redstate.com right now. See frontpage post by "streiff".

For me at least, Gab been almost unusable since yesterday. Very slow to load and frequent messages from Cloudflare saying it's unreachable.
"We prepared for events like this"
and
"There is the possibility Parler will be unavailable on the internet for up to a week as we rebuild from scratch"
That's some impressive preparation. Is he that stupid, or does he think we are.
This monumentally stupid on the part of Amazon. Cloud services is their bread and butter, which is why they sued the Federal government when they lost that 10 Billion dollar contract to Microsoft's Azure.
Now many companies are going to be looking to move off of AWS to Azure or their own platforms entirely.
I thought I was the only one who thought all three of those were monstrously annoying to hear.
Commercial businesses, social media commentators, and fair-minded public prosecutors need to start thinking more about (i) tortious interference, and (ii) anti-trust/anti-competition actions against tech giants that deplatform for ostensible SJW reasons. I don't think most of them give a rat's ass when they deplatform - they are likely being paid off, or are affiliated with, a competitor to the target. "Violation of terms of service" is not something any commercial lawyer would have understood 50 or 100 years ago. Interfering with a competitor's access to consumers by defaming them for extraneous reasons was simply illegal (at both common law and anti-trust law).
Incidentally, why do I need to log-in to Google Mail to post this comment? LOL
At least Cloudflare has its own infrastructure.
Signal's turning heads.
However you feel about Anglin & The Daily Stormer, (I don't harbor fond thoughts myself), everyone should have joined together and spoke out about him having his domain stolen by Google in 2017 & losing the protection of Cloudflare.
But, they didn't, because hey, screw him, we don't like what he says.
Well, that lack of hard pushback has led to this moment.
I think it’s a bit of both.

Gab has experienced at least 400% user growth (last figure I heard was from Thursday) over the last 4 days, and they host their own services on servers they own and control, so I would expect them to be slow, their hamsters have to be exhausted right now. More capacity is coming on line, and it is my sincere hope that GET chooses them for his new account, because then the GE can benevolently bestow a large chunk of cash on Andrew to help out with the hosting duties that are going to explode their servers if the GE does choose them.
Weeks after Conservative Treehouse was banned from Wordpress, CitizenFreePress and many others on the right continue to rely on it. Just amazing.
You’re wrong on several counts.
AWS is big, but it’s not their bread and butter. The store is. By a massive amount.
Secondly, then suing the government to win that business is just good business. Who would leave that kind of money on the table?
That has nothing to do with AWS being their bread and butter or not.
“Now many companies” blah blah blah.
Like who? Who is going to move off because Parler got spanked? Nobody that’s who. Nobody gives a fuck about Parler except cucks.
Think harder.
- AWS Employee
Also, Telegram is insecure garbage.
Signal is the state of the art. Not perfect, but the best we can get for now.
Really Element is the state of the art, but it can be cumbersome.
Not much will change because those companies will all think it won’t happen to them as long as they keep their head down. It’s the same reason most creators still stick with YouTube. They won’t react until it happens to them and at that point there’s no one left to speak for them.
John Matze should be fired. It was a beautifully orchestrated takedown, right down to the microservices, and, if you believe him, even his attorneys resigned in concert; however, risk mitigation is a fundamental leadership responsibility. Complete failure. Even if your company survives you have failed.
Good luck with getting cloud brokers to recommend AWS then dummy. What happens when the USN walks away?!?!
Imagine my shark
I think that Dan Mangina is just so gay. Prove me wrong!
Just cancelled Amazon Prime and Audible. Probably a drop in the bucket to them, but if a few million of us do it...?

That's a good one. Got any more?
Imwill wrote:AWS is big, but it’s not their bread and butter. The store is. By a massive amount.
No. The store is revenue, but operates at a lightly less than 0% profit margin.
Virtually all of Amazon's profit comes from AWS.
You're right, nobody cares about Parler.
Everybody does care about trustworthiness. Amazon just demonstrated, real time, they have no qualms about shutting your business down, without the slightest concern for your business survival.
Any intelligent IT pro who sees this is wondering if that could happen to him.
Suddenly, multi-cloud doesn't seem like such waste of time and expertise. Gotta keep those options open. Do I really want to tie my business process to AWS-only features? Dare I remain dependent on AWS?
Looks to me like an enormous risk, which companies are going to start mitigating on Monday.

To be fair, a lot of people like Gab because it reaches more people than SocialGalactic. SG is basically a little club. There's less ability to reach people. It's designed for a different purpose than Gab, and that means that it isn't a direct substitute.
In other words, for many it is less about the cult of free technology and more about wanting to reach more people.
In other words, for many it is less about the cult of free technology and more about wanting to reach more people.
That's totally false. That's probably true for 15-20 ecelebs and a few Patriots like Neon Revolt, but Gab brings in a tiny pittance of revenue considering how many people sign up for accounts there. 95 percent of the people on Gab wouldn't pay anything to use it.
There's less ability to reach people.
Partly true, partly false. While you can theoretically reach more people, most of them are useless. We have empirical evidence that a post on SG will generate more traffic to an off-site link than Gab, Parler, or even, sometimes, Twitter.
That's one reason why we didn't pursue that model. All that traffic amounts to is the noise of everyone talking and no one listening.
Why do people keep sperging out over Gab?
Gab is a Mossad front, and yet another gatekeeper site. The men who control it are not currently attacking their own user base (which is good), but I would NOT blindly trust the site....nor would I blindly trust the men who control it. Haven't we noticed countless Internet sites radically changing their Internet policies in oppressive and dystopian ways within only a few years? The men who control Gab are being mostly practical....for now. What would happen if that changed?
To put this another way, be careful.
According to Andrew Torba, Gab added 600k account today (10 Jan) alone.
It gets better. It looks like because of the deplatforming, Parler was breached.
"so a group of developers latched onto the Press Release that Twilio put out at midnight last night. In that Press Release, Twilio accidentally revealed which services Parler was using. Turns out it was all of the security authentications that were used to register a user. This allowed anyone to create a user, and not have to verify an email address, and immediately have a logged-on account.
Well, because of that access, it gave them access to the behind the login box API that is used to deliver content -- ALL CONTENT (parleys, video, images, user profiles, user information, etc) --. But what it also did was revealed which USERS had "Administration" rights, "Moderation" rights.
Well, then what happened, those user accounts that had Administration rights to the entire platform... The hackers, internet warriors, call it what you will, was able to use the forgot password link to change the password. Why? Because Twilio was no longer authenticating emails. This meant, they'd get directly to the reset password screen of that Administration user.
This group of Internet Warriors then used that account, to create a handful of other ADMINISTRATION accounts, and then created a script that ended up creating MILLIONS of fake administration accounts.
Now that they had a way of creating admin accounts without interruption, they created a Docker Image (basically a virtual machine) called a Warrior, that anyone could download, and when fired up, would immediately start collecting data off of Parlre, in a coordinated fashion.
Consider it like SETI (Search for Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence) that people used to load up as screen savers when their computers were not being used. Same concept, crowdsourcing.
All of this data, the videos, the images, the posts, the metadata (including the GEO location of all images and videos, and the connections to the accounts that posted it, has been (since midnight) being uploaded to various cloud drives and storage arrays for the purposes of Archiving this information, for later retrieval by law enforcement, by the public, by Open Source Intelligence communities.
And the kicker.. is this: all of this information was thought to be secure and private by individuals who were making the posts. A significant number of those individuals went through the process of being a "Verified Citizen" on Parler. What does that mean?
It means they uploaded a picture of the front and back of their REAL State Driver's License........ Let that sink in for a second.
I am positive the FBI has been actively soaking in this information along with the Internet Warriors, but this is how they are going to officially track down.
And it's how the FBI, DHS, and FAA have been able to immediately and exhaustively create no-fly lists. Every verified attendee of the Capitol riot where they can find a real name has been placed on No-Fly Lists.
It might seem like a small geeky glitch or hack.. but in the age of Information warfare... this is the silver bullet for the people who used Parler as a place to organize their efforts.
Also, a lot of posts were deleted by Parler members after the riots on the 6th. Turned out... Parler didn't actually delete anything.. just set a bit as deleted.
Guess what has access to all "deleted" content?
Administrator accounts."
