Lockdowns are Fake Science

Isn't it interesting how the "Follow the Science" crowd immediately ignores the actual scientody in favor of appeals to the authority of scientistry as soon as their hypotheses are subjected to the actual scientific method?

This is becoming repetitive already but it’s very much worth repeating: lockdowns don’t work and a new study has come out re-confirming that fact.

Medical experts Eran Bendavid, Christopher Oh, Jay Bhattacharya, and John Ioannidis published just two weeks ago at the European Journal of Clinical Investigation their research on “Assessing Mandatory Stay-at-Home and Business Closure Effects on the Spread of COVID-19.”

They studied “COVID-19 case growth in relation to any NPI [non-pharmaceutical interventions; i.e., lockdowns: mandatory stay-at-home and business closures] implementation in subnational regions of 10 countries: England, France, Germany, Iran, Italy, Netherlands, Spain, South Korea, Sweden, and the US.” They then examined “case growth in Sweden and South Korea, two countries that did not implement mandatory stay-at-home and business closures, as comparison countries for the other eight countries (16 total comparisons).”

Their findings? “While small benefits cannot be excluded, we do not find significant benefits on case growth of more restrictive NPIs. Similar reductions in case growth may be achievable with less restrictive interventions.” In short: there was no practical difference in effect between countries that locked down and those that didn’t. Or even shorter: whatever benefits lockdowns give are dwarfed by their enormous costs.

This study was complemented by Canadian infectious disease expert Dr. Ari Joffe in his study “COVID-19: Rethinking the Lockdown Groupthink” (November 2020). Here, he stated that “The costs of lockdowns are at least 10 times higher than the benefits. That is, lockdowns cause far more harm to population well-being than COVID-19 can.”

All the lockdowns should be ended immediately. They literally accomplish worse than nothing. The science, as they say, is settled.

This anti-lockdown or anti-mask rhetoric will never work because these people are not living in truth. They buy 90% of the lies, they think covid is real, and then wonder why they can't win on that 10% of truth they chose to fight on. Half truths don't assist one, in spite of good intentions. God will not stand with you in half truths, you're on your own.

Aside from the gross loss of life and livelihood it wrought, there’s also sadly the willing acceptance by many to forego their civil liberties rather than confront fear with reason.

Since people with COVID also excrete virus from the nether end, the French have been testing RNA concentration in sewers. It's a good indicator, it leads actual swab-in-nose tests by several days because people wait until they have symptoms to get the swab, which makes swab-in-nose a rather laggy indicator.

They found that viral load in sewer water decreases a few days before lockdowns are enacted.

It could also be because people follow the news, notice there are a lot of infected, so they get more careful, and get infected less as a result. Or it could be the natural course of the epidemic. But of course, the only correct interpretation is lockdowns are so effective they work even before they're implemented! A perfect example of political causality.

Last April my wife and I escaped from the Cayman Islands where we had been caught up in their extreme lockdown while visiting relatives there. Since then I have repeatedly and literally been praising God that we live in Florida. We do wear masks in public out of courtesy, as much as any belief in efficacy, but otherwise our lives are almost completely unchanged. Thank you Governor DeSantis. What has changed is that I have developed a real hatred for BLM/Antifa funding, Big Box retailers like Amazon, Wal-Mart, Home Depot, Lowes, McDonald's and the like. They have used these lockdowns to drive their small business competitors out of business and have made millions out of this China virus disaster. For the last year I have searched out as many local alternative sources of material and services as possible. Starve those big corporation bastards!

The only thing to add is that the lockdowns worked better than expected.

They had no power before, and now they are drunk on it.
Evidence is everywhere of this.
Wranglerstar’s natural instinct when confronted by a short weakling gamma who told him to “put on the mask” (he had a video about it months ago), WS’s natural reaction was to tell the pipsqueak “make me”, was the proper response. But WS later thought he was wrong to do that. I don’t think so. In the long run, it’s the only thing that will restore the natural order.

Blogger Harambe February 27, 2021 8:37 AM

I have a problem with the study. Or rather: what we did wasn't truly a "lockdown". It was more like house arrest where you were still allowed to go to the shops and buy coffee and whatnot. But it's still hard to argue that making it so people get e.g. in contact with only 20 people per week as opposed to the regular 50 doesn't greatly reduce the rate of spread of infectious diseases.

But I'm really just being pedantic. As much as I love getting to work from our spare room, my wife's dance school business is pretty much just a zombie that exists purely as a piece of paper and an entry at the revenue service. she hasn't been able to generate an income in literally a year. And her dad who has a business installing gates and fencing had to basically twiddle his thumbs at home for the first three months of lockdown (and we had to pay their rent. Thank God Above I was in a position to do so). The economic impact is staggering, even on the micro level. No one has spare cash to buy anything you sell as a side-hustle. It's a mess around us.

I am sure the TPTB know this. The reason we have a lockdown (which everyone largely ignores when they can) in England is because Prime Minister Johnson was in February 2020 concerned that if our sacred cow the NHS had scenes such as those in Italy and Spain he would be toast at the next election, hence the genuflecting to the NHS and lockdown. Now, as there is a limit to how much money his Chancellor, Dishy Rishi may borrow he has to get out of it but he cannot do so by just admitting the failure of lockdown: he needs a way out, which is where the fake 'vaccines' come in, hence the increasingly desperate rhetoric to persuade and cajole the people to have the 'jab' culminating yesterday, his other bullying not having succeeded, in The Queen gaslighting the refuseniks in a one-woman white-feather campaign by telling us that if we fail to become jabbed we are being very bad people. Apparently it is only a little-prick.

We are doing quite well here based on the fact that others are crippling their economy and harassing "constituents" into locking down out of pure misery of attempting to go out, fines, social constraints from statists, with or without masks.

Let them eat mask, and lockdowns. It is good for those who live in freer regions. Besides, they, mostly, seem to have voted with their ballots, or allowed those to be stolen. Let them enjoy the fruits.

I think it's clear now that it doesn't matter what the actual science determines about masks, lockdowns, etc. For months, the science has repeatedly confirmed what many of us instinctually knew was BS from the beginning (after a bit of caution). But Science™ says whatever is required to keep the people scared and under its spell. The media, schools, big corporate, and even many employers take every opportunity to reinforce the message: be scared, listen to Science™, do what you're told, or else.

This will eventually pass. Into what I do now know, but it almost certainly won't be Nov 2019 ever again. People are waking up to what's going on, so there is hope (there is always hope), but there is also a level of cowardice here that is sickening. Grown men, after a f*cking year of this, are still walking around with a stupid-ass mask on their face and elbow bumping their friends. No one is scared of these people -- including those maintaining the spell.

People were simply funneled from mom and pop stores, movie theaters, sporting events, beaches, etc, to Walmart, Sam's Club, Home Depot, etc. Those venues became not just stores, but gossiping areas and family gatherings. Yeah, look at the bright side though. The Corona-Cooties is so bad-ass, it kicked out the Flu-Cooties.

Or, just replace the word Flu in front of Flu Symptoms with the word Covid, and you now have Covid Symptoms. It's magic.

From the "experts": This one symptom means you definitely have coronavirus, not the flu - The coronavirus and the flu have so many symptoms in common, making a clinical diagnosis virtually impossible without testing. There is one “wacky” symptom that stands out, and COVID-19 is the likeliest diagnosis in case it appears, not the flu. The sudden loss of smell and taste is associated with the novel coronavirus. But even so, not all COVID-19 end up losing their sense of smell or taste. And don't forget dyspnea too! Because no one with the Flu has ever had dyspnea!

Los Angeles Times dated Feb. 21, 1988 - Sense of Smell Can Be Victim of Bout With Flu: It can happen to people who suffer from flu or upper respiratory infections, said Robert Frank, a University of Cincinnati psychophysicist. It is common for sufferers with colds or the flu to lose their sense of smell--and, as a result, their ability to taste--briefly during the time of the ailment. But, Frank said, some people do not regain their sense of smell for months, or longer.

And people are still stuck on but... but... but... but. Because people are stuck on stupid and mass psychosis.

BTW, if all these Corona-Cooties measures are responsible for the disappearing Flu-Cooties, they sure as hell are not working for Corona-Cooties. Right, the Corona-Cooties is so bad-ass...

But MILLIONS and MILLIONS would have died without all these mass psychosis lock-downs!

FYI, the medical/"scientific" establishment had tried very very hard to marginalize these guys, Bendavid, Oh, Bhattacharya, and Ioannidis. Yet here they are still publishing in peer review journals, and pushing back, and pushing back hard, on the narrative. The same with Harvey Risch, at Yale, on hydroxychloroquine.

Pockets of sanity in s sea of unthinking craziness.

The CDC continues to update their death certificate numbers -- likely a pretty accurate tally of these records -- and it's the same old same old.

A mere 6% to 8% of death certificates have the Wuhan listed as the single cause, and the rest of the approximately 500K death certificates had the Wuhan listed along with "additional causes and conditions." And the average number of these aformentioned "additional causes and conditions" like heart disease, diabetes, alzheimers?

Three to four. Let that sink in.

I know some people think the Wuhan is a hoax, but the virus is a unique virus, a new form of the class of cornaviruses. But while it is "real" in that sense, it is primarily a highly contagious disease of old people with end of life inflammatory conditions, and of younger people with compromised lung function and, occasionally and rarely, otherwise healthy people who in some way are more susceptible to it.

That's it. Very simple. Very straightforward.

Put the little bugger in nursing homes and the residents will drop like flies. We're looking at YOU Andrew Cuomo.

Put the little bugger in an elementary school, and it's like nothing has happened, because, frankly, nothing has.

Oh, one other thing. In the USA, we've "lost" -- very BIG air quotes around that -- around 500,000 people to the Wuhan. That's less than one half of one percent of the population. Yes, it's sad that some people die, but as the Zero Hedge motto goes, on a long enough timeline the survival rate drops to zero.

But to completely upend the lives of millions of people, lives that may be permanently altered in catastrophic ways due to policy choices, in an effort to someone atone for the lives of a sliver of the population?

Stupidity is too nice a word.

Blogger Pathfinderlight February 27, 2021 1:13 PM

The lockdowns were sold to the public on the idea of flattening the curve, as in slow the spread of this disease that basically everyone will eventually get, similar to a cold or flu.

That objective was reached over the summer. We made great strides in treating this illness. We know what treatments are partially effective, enough for the vast majority of cases. We know what treatments are counterproductive or dangerous.

Disease lockdowns are not the natural state for living because they have certain detrimental effects on everyone. We have always known that lockdowns were a temporary measure because, sooner or later, the time would come when lockdowns will cause more harm than not having the lockdowns. At that point, they needed to end.

The plot below has state covid restriction index on Y axis (higher number means fewer restrictions and deaths per million on X axis. If more restrictions meant fewer deaths the data would cluster around a line from lower left to upper right. It does not. A state like SD would be far to the right and far up.
