The surrender of the USA's foreign elite

There is historical precedent for the sellout of Americans by the not-Americans of the globalist corpocracy who have been ruling them for the last 20+ years, as Lee Smith points out how an Athenian elite sold out the people of Athens after its defeat by Sparta:

In Chapter 5 of The Prince, Niccolo Machiavelli describes three options for how a conquering power might best treat those it has defeated in war. The first is to ruin them; the second is to rule directly; the third is to create “therein a state of the few which might keep it friendly to you.”

The example Machiavelli gives of the last is the friendly government Sparta established in Athens upon defeating it after 27 years of war in 404 BCE. For the upper caste of an Athenian elite already contemptuous of democracy, the city’s defeat in the Peloponnesian War confirmed that Sparta’s system was preferable. It was a high-spirited military aristocracy ruling over a permanent servant class, the helots, who were periodically slaughtered to condition them to accept their subhuman status. Athenian democracy by contrast gave too much power to the low-born. The pro-Sparta oligarchy used their patrons’ victory to undo the rights of citizens, and settle scores with their domestic rivals, exiling and executing them and confiscating their wealth.

The Athenian government disloyal to Athens’ laws and contemptuous of its traditions was known as the Thirty Tyrants, and understanding its role and function helps explain what is happening in America today.

For my last column I spoke with The New York Times’ Thomas Friedman about an article he wrote more than a decade ago, during the first year of Barack Obama’s presidency. His important piece documents the exact moment when the American elite decided that democracy wasn’t working for them. Blaming the Republican Party for preventing them from running roughshod over the American public, they migrated to the Democratic Party in the hopes of strengthening the relationships that were making them rich.

A trade consultant told Friedman: “The need to compete in a globalized world has forced the meritocracy, the multinational corporate manager, the Eastern financier and the technology entrepreneur to reconsider what the Republican Party has to offer. In principle, they have left the party, leaving behind not a pragmatic coalition but a group of ideological naysayers.”

In the more than 10 years since Friedman’s column was published, the disenchanted elite that the Times columnist identified has further impoverished American workers while enriching themselves. The one-word motto they came to live by was globalism—that is, the freedom to structure commercial relationships and social enterprises without reference to the well-being of the particular society in which they happened to make their livings and raise their children.

Undergirding the globalist enterprise was China’s accession to the World Trade Organization in 2001. For decades, American policymakers and the corporate class said they saw China as a rival, but the elite that Friedman described saw enlightened Chinese autocracy as a friend and even as a model—which was not surprising, given that the Chinese Communist Party became their source of power, wealth, and prestige. Why did they trade with an authoritarian regime and send millions of American manufacturing jobs off to China thereby impoverish working Americans? Because it made them rich. They salved their consciences by telling themselves they had no choice but to deal with China: It was big, productive, and efficient and its rise was inevitable. And besides, the American workers hurt by the deal deserved to be punished—who could defend a class of reactionary and racist ideological naysayers standing in the way of what was best for progress?

This is a really important article if you want to better understand the grand strategic situation. Read the whole thing, and understand the way in which it is connected to the original plan of the Learned Elders of Wye to make the Great Leap Eastward that was publicly rejected by the Chinese in 2015.

That's the left-wing globalist argument. The right-wing globalist variant of this, is shame on those shifty and lazy Americans who don't work hard and want too much money. It's too bad they're not more like Mexicans. Plus, the food is so good.

In the case of some Athenian elite (Alcibiades) collaboration came before the Spartans arrived. But the fact that Sparta did conquer Athens, one can’t not blame democrats. They who started the Empire, started the war, misplanned the war, and started another stupid war over in Sicily.

At least Athenians and Spartans were both Greek. Some of the Athenian elite (Alcibiades, Xenophon) ran off to have fun in on-so romantic Persia.

Plus side here is that Athens recovered from its loss as Sparta quickly toppled. It was a freak state unversed in simple things like money.

A most excellent article Vox. Thanks so much for posting. It confirms much of what I thought about the un-American, globalist elite and why it is so important to them to drive Trump and MAGA from the face of the earth.

There is no stability when the enemy wants your way of life gone. US is one or two Democratic presidents away from seeking to have bookstores ban the Bible as hatespeech.

Trump may not good enough in 2024. We may have to engineer a tyrannical Serpentor — the clone of Adolph Hitler, Nathan Bedford Forrest, Augusto Pinochet, Anders Breivik, and Storm Shadow the Ninja — to finally get everything straight.

Is it wrong that the use of the term "excoriated" in this context is irksome to me?

Blogger English Tom February 19, 2021 8:58 AM

Because it made them rich.

This was an ancillary objective, the main aim, almost complete, the deliberate destruction of the West. See: days of hunger, days of chaos by either Tex or Jim Marrs 1998, which foretold the future of the West. This great reset is the plan, actualised.

Blogger The Masked Menace February 19, 2021 9:01 AM

The process really picked up speed in the 1990s. The Democratic Party abandoned the working class during the 90s supporting NAFTA and the movement of manufacturing to China. The world was way different before that decade. The Democratic Party was dominated by Unions and represented the working class. Now it basically represents Billionaires, perverts, and illegal emigrants.

Trump is basically a 1980s Democrat. All the 24/7 "Trump and his supporters are racist monsters" stuff is pure Billionaire Globalist propaganda to divide, rule, and distract. Trump's support comes from desperate working and middle class families. The establishment's support comes from Globalist Billionaires (and retarded morons who would walk off a cliff if CNN said the magic word "Science").

"So Americans became prey to an anti-democratic elite that used the coronavirus to demoralize them; lay waste to small businesses; leave them vulnerable to rioters who are free to steal, burn, and kill; keep their children from school and the dying from the last embrace of their loved ones; and desecrate American history, culture, and society; and defame the country as systemically racist in order to furnish the predicate for why ordinary Americans in fact deserved the hell that the elite’s private and public sector proxies had already prepared for them."

Spartans were laughing their asses off at Big Brain "Cultured" Athens, and the echos of it are heard to this day. This was an excellent read. Thank you.

Let's see: the Learned Elders planned to move to the East, and got rejected in 2015. In 2015 Trump burst on the scene, threatening globalism without, in the end, damaging it much.

I wonder if the elite faction which backed Trump included the Learned Elders? They might have decided that if they couldn't leave as planned, they would have to slow the decline here a bit.

We did see Trump hammering China economically. Learned Elders might have wanted to spank the Chinks for blocking them out.

In any event, one term of Trump was all the elites could stand, and now he's out and the elites are no longer pretending to care about us.

Trump is basically a 1980s Democrat.

That, and a bit of Reaganism as well, in terms of his push for deregulation and making it easier to do manufacturing in the U.S.

The billionaire class hate him because he threatens their China-based gravy train. The neo-cons hate him because of his efforts to end our foreign wars and interventionist foreign policy. One of the surprises for me was how stubbornly the GOP establishment clung to the interventionist foreign policy. In fact, this has been the the main driver of their opposition to Trump. This was the big surprise to me starting four years ago because I had assumed that everyone was coming to the recognition that our debt problem was going to force permanent cuts, with the interventionist foreign policy being the easiest place to cut. I was assuming that foreign interventionism would get thrown under the bus in favor of entitlements and social programs. I underestimated the commitment that a lot of the political class had to foreign interventionism.

Thanks to Trump, the traitorous American elites now realize that the American people are rejecting them, and so they have no choice but to double down on selling us out to China with the ridiculous stolen (s)election.

China rejected the Great Leap Eastward, but American elites are essentially betting they can be king of the dunghill over here and serve as China's slavemasters. They're grasshoppers, after all, only consuming and destroying, and don't care if America is a Third World country.

Regardless, China owns them now like bitches, and for the moment, the U.S. is essentially a slave colony of China.

The open question now is whether China considers it more useful for Chinese purposes to deal with our traitorous globalist elites, or to toss them overboard into the trash.

Of course he doesn't point out the common link between all these paper Americans despite the fact that he knows, because it's his people, and despite the fact that this difference is why they did what they continue to do. He ended another article on America's plight with a lone sentence saying something like, "The problem is us". Who is this "us", Mr. "Smith"?

It's nice enough of him to name the names anyone with eyes already knew, while he keeps the charade going. I emailed him asking about this when the article was fresh, I'll report when he answers back. Ha! I'm sure he'll be living in Judah by the time Americans have had enough and you'll never see him pretending to be American again.

I've stopped praying for these people, Jeremiah was right in telling us God says not to.

Blogger Evstratios February 19, 2021 11:16 AM

It is easy to see the lasting effects of these policies over 2000 years as well, plain as day. Athens today is still a complete and utter shithole. A labyrinthine ghetto of misery snaking around the Parthenon, eating its own tail with great big bites from mouths of every colour and persuasion. I always thought the rank wafting odours at every turn were unique until some time in India showed me that Mumbai and New Delhi are its sister cities. 'Liberal democracy', heh.

Meanwhile in Sparta, sweet Sparta, the streets clean, straight, and parallel beckoning the march. The Spartan Acropolis, long derided as nothing to see by the deranged and degenerate, is simply superior in every way. The air is completely devoid of rot and human sewage, imagine that. The place certainly not immune to the present, yet a stark and glaring contrast in livability.

Discipline, it does a body good.

It's not just the Elders of Wye. I can count the tech people I know who have grown wealthy and influential from a sojourn in China: it's Episcopalians, Methodists and Lutherans.

Each of them were in tech, or in oil, in major infrastructure, in finance, in NGOs, including faith-based NGOs, and governance groups.

Each of them became fantastically wealthy while being the most amoral, average thinkers possible.

I can:
* First the premises are obviously wrong: there is nothing "racist" about to have a strong family, or a strong nation.
* Second, there is nothing wrong with a worker wishing to be paid a just wage.
* Third, make no mistake much of the sell-out was fraud: they claimed that it was cheaper production for equivalent quality — anyone who has used modern Chinese hand-tools and American hand-tools from the 50s/60s/70s/80s knows this to be a lie.
* Fourth, there is nothing wrong with the working-class (or middle-class) feeling betrayed by the above — it was a betrayal.
* Fifth, the justification-mindset the elites used was doubled-down on again with the preference of foreign-labor over the working-class because "Americans are lazy/stupid/unskilled", justifying further betrayal.
* Sixth, the foreign preference of #5 combined with the fraud of #3 led to an industry of H-, J-, O- and OPT-visa fraud.

EO in response to the Chinese Virus: "Effective immediately, all borders are closed to trade and transport. The Army is to secure the land borders, the Navy is to secure the costs; any attempt to enter the United States by any person is to be considered a hostile act and lethal force is authorized and ordered in order to prevent the spread of the virus into the United States. Any officer of the United States, civil or military, attempting to or aiding an attempt to breach the borders of the United States is to be tried for the Treason of aiding and abetting the enemies of the United States by introducing biological warfare agents into the population of the United States."
Bam, done. — The US's trade-deficit would instantly be $0 and without the income from the US, China's propped-up economy would collapse.

And then one day, for no reason at all...

The Chicoms have considered themselves at war with us since back when we supported Chiang Kai Shek. That war has taken different forms and different levels of intensity over the years, but has remained fairly constant. The big sea change came after the fall of the USSR when the US was taking victory laps and believing in the "end of history" narrative. China started buying influence, used that influence to help create wealth for China, used that to buy even more influence... and started experimenting with a variety of ways to use and expand that influence for China's benefit. This wasn't diferent in kind from various subversions used by Soviets during the cold war, but the scope was greater while being less overtly hostile. Plus the Chinese found a way to use our crony capitalism against us that the Soviets never did. Sure, we sent materiel and factories to Russia during WWII, but the Chinese incentivized our politicians and corporations to do so on an amazing scale... and got us to -officially anyway-thank them for the privilege.

The recent Chinese interference in or politics and our election, both direct and through proxies, has revealed a bit of the steel fist beneath the velvet glove of free trade with China. There will no doubt be more of that as things progress. However, success can carry the seeds of its own undoing (e.g. US winning cold war) and I suspect that China's reach will exceed its grasp. Further, as more of its enmity towards the West is revealed in the face of rising nationalism across the West, Chinese purchases of influence will return less bang for the buck in the face of mounting popular opposition to China.

Will China be content to rely on soft power to further its interests? Their action around the South China sea argue otherwise as does its hostility towards India. At some point, china's economic interests abroad may require miltary backing to support their ambitions and that will be a very dangerous inflection point.

--What people need to understand is that this wasn't *China's* plan. The plan existed before there was a communist party in China. The CCP was put in to enable the plan.

You need to think on Jesuit / 13 families / Phoenician secret-society timescales. These people are happy if a plan they took part in as a padawan achieves fruition before they're 90.

Aside from the odd-off case during the Cold War (e.g., Eastwood's "Firefox"), Hollywood scripting Russian villains is a relatively recent, Trump-era phenomena, (and one guess why). Prior, it was wall-to-wall Nazis. For example, "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" was still using krauts as villains in 2014.
