Boomersick

A few people been slinging around the rhetorical term Boomerphobia. As with the term homophobia, it is denigrating rhetoric that does not point one at the truth. In both cases, disgust is a considerably more accurate description than fear, which means that a more accurate term should be based on one of the two primary Greek terms for the former: αηδία or σιχασιά.

The problem is that in English, Boomeraidia sounds more like someone who has drunk the Boomer Kool-aid or cheerfully contributes to the upkeep of a Boomer's nursing home than someone who would prefer that the staff make productive use of the pillows there. So, the term Boomersichasia is the preferable neologism, as it anglicizes quite nicely to Boomersick.

So, if one wishes to describe the attitude of this blog and many of this blog's younger readers with regards to the Baby Boomers, please have the courtesy to utilize the correct dialectical term, which is Boomersichasic, or, if you prefer rhetoric, Boomersick.

At least sonically similar to Boomeraidia

Some of the confusion is that some people in that age range are good people, and also the type of Boomer can vary slightly from different areas.

In Michigan, a boomer was a pipefitter or forklift driver at the big three, or a dispatcher for the county public works, or a purchaser at kmart. He retired 15 years ago with a full pension and full 401k. His wife hung on at the school district because she had her 30 and was at the top of the pay scale, so she bumped into a reading specialist job where she worked 3 days a week, and got to take all her sick days, so she could be at the vacation home up north all fall and spring.

Both of them saw that the next tier got squeezed out, the auto plant guy by agreeing to tier two wages for new hires, same with the government workers, the teacher by voting to get rid of teacher pensions, but just for new grads.

They take several cruises a year, and never helped their children with the grandchildren. And either they guilted the children to stay in the area, or give the children a hard time for moving to Fairfax County or Atlanta or Phoenix to get work.

Of course the boomers never tried to help, just gave lectures on how they had to look hard for their perfect job, it took almost two weeks calling around and dropping off apps.

And their children have to live 45 minutes away from their work so their grandchildren can go to a school that is not a violent hell hole, but never any attempt to help by the boomer. Just smug lectures.

When I see all of this the verse comes to me.
Of whom much is given much is expected.
It’s a generation that feels they are disrespected
Because something is expected of them.
My Father said before he passed at 97 that only a war that threatened there privilege would change the course they are on.
He paid a big price for his freedom in WWll from the wounds he lived with but never complained.
People forget we fought a world war on two fronts and won them in less then 5 years.
That is what you call determined.

Blogger rumpole5 March 01, 2021 8:59 AM

OK my dear Xer. "sichasic" it is!

This reminds me of the issue with the technical terms "Moron-Idiot-Imbicile" (MII) and "retarded". That is: that as soon as the definition of an impartial technical term becomes commonly understood, if the understanding offends somebody, it must be replaced by another word. MII was a great term set that precisely described gradations of cognitive impairment. Because the meanings became too well known, and people were using the terms as insults, these precise terms were replaced by the "one size fits all" vague term "retarded". At the point that I (blessedly) retired from capital litigation, all of the SJW attorneys were castigating me for using the term "retarded" (in responding to THEIR mental retardation mitigation claims) because the term was "denegrating" to their poor convicted murderer clients. All of the capital mitigation statutes and case law at the time used the term "retarded" or "retardation". The SJW defense lawyers wanted me to use the even more vague term "mentally challenged". Arguably, that term would include any condition recognized by the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual! Bizzaro World!

I salute the Dark Lord for finding an alternate term for "phobia" that is arguably more precise to describe the condition than was "phobia".

I like the euphemistic mendacity of "pro-youth," which evokes the day of the pillow while hitting the Boomer where it hurts, in his wrinkled vanity. There's also the poetic justice of turnabout for mass abortion. Why murder the inconvenient innocent when we have so many aged entitled instead?

My grandmother was a Boomer; she didn't cook or clean, ate herself into immobility and hoarded her house to the rafters. I loved her and cleaned out her house several times when I was in high school and college, while she cussed me out and called me stupid for thinking that decades old magazines and newspapers were trash. She died of obesity-related sickness far earlier than she otherwise might have. I mourn her, but her tragedy was entirely self-created.

My mother is just barely Gen X by a couple months but might as well be Boomer, and is easily the worst person I know. She had multiple children by multiple fathers (never married) and left all of them for my great-grandmother to raise. I was around her boyfriends until my great-grandmother realized how dangerous that was for me and took me out of that situation. My mom had no problem basically disowning her teenage daughter to continue her immoral relationships which produced a couple more kids even after I had been permanently removed.

I'm on the fairly early part of Millennial, but I was raised enough by my great-grandmother in a small rural town that I don't really have that much in common with my cohort. What I do have in common was that I was messed up enough by my dysfunctional grandparents and mother that it's taken until my mid-thirties to marry, hopefully while still able to have children. I don't blame them for my own failures in my 20's, except to say that I was set up for failure by my family of origin (except for my absolute saint of a great-grandmother, who was heartbroken by the rebellion and wickedness of her children and grandchildren, and who sacrificed a lot to give me a chance in life) and it took me a long time to claw my way out of that by the grace of God. Your writing about Boomers has been enlightening and instructive.

Fear and Disgust are entirely different emotions and it is gay of you to attempt to equate them. literally. "homophobia" was a term created to insult a natural Disgust reaction by confusing it for Fear, meaning the accused was a coward.
getting dog shit all over my shoe Disgusts me, i am not the slightest bit afraid of the dog shit. if for some bizarre reason it were necessary i could fairly easily stick my bare hand ( without open sores or scratches ) into dog shit to retrieve something.

Blogger Raker_T March 01, 2021 9:52 AM

Somewhere between disgusted and sad. Sad that people could be proud of completely missing the boat. Anti establishment can be a good thing, but Boomers were guided into rejecting cultural norms, when they should have rejected big government, central banks, etc. I was like, there man, far out, I dug the music. But I was also a fallen down drunk and drug user, with a few incidents of criminal violence for good measure.
After Christ gave me a new life, I saw things for what there were. It's sad that people still have a high regard for music that was the spearhead of social engineering.

Of course the answer to that from the boomers was to destroy the economy so they could stay alive.
Come to think of it, healthy silents are known to survive covid. But fat already on statins - from being obese - diabetic, also from being obese, boomers, are higher up on the target list.
Since boomers have supported the convenience of abortion, young people who managed to survive have it in every right to ignore every inconvenient covid precaution.

Some old people around is generally a good thing... as long as they aren't pulling for the destruction of all the younger generations.

Knowing how deeply Communism rotted our country for over a century now, I have to wonder how much of the "education system" was intentionally used to destroy the family. We know Hollywood was thoroughly compromised. And public schooling has always been socialist at best. I doubt any significant % of Boomers escaped exposure of both, let alone either.

I know folks here have a LOT of fun Boomer-bashing, but I have to wonder WHY the Boomers rebelled and trashed their world around them. Talk about successful Commie projects.

I suspect the Silents were not that wise or good, and that they were just as lazy as those that followed in letting Commies in the TV and the "good, PATRIOTIC public schools" completely program their kids so they didn't have to bother with them.

None of my grandparents' Boomer kids on either side seem well-adjusted. I feel normal by comparison. (!)

NOT a defense of Boomers here, just wondering where the breakdowns occurred. Homeschooling really is the only answer. No kids can maintain faith, morale and discipline under the constant barrage on their souls. They'll either pretend at home and indulge in evil or slip and betray their parents sooner or later if they're in the system at all.

Re inheritance => birthright

For a while I've been bluntly pointing out that invoking the parable of the Good Samaritan to support mass immigration is a GD lie, saying that the Samaritan helped the injured man out so he could ultimately go home. Jesus did NOT have him bring the guy home to eat his food indefinitely, and invite all his relatives to come too, to f*ck the hosts daughters and steal his son's inheritance.

Birthright is a much better word.

One word for the Silents: Complacency. They didn't want to beat their kids like their parents beat them (but that's how you get learned, when you are selfish and defiant), so they birthed and spoiled and indulged their spawn, the Boomers.

The Commies saw this, and took advantage of a Me Generation that had never wanted for anything, never learned anything, bitched about everything, threw it all away with both hands, and now tries desperately to hold onto it as they slip into darkness.

There is a movie called the best years of our lives about ww2 veterans returning home and what they dealt with. They were just trying to get their lives in order and raise children. Tv was new. They had no defense or understanding of the propaganda. We do though, and we're not very successful at fighting it despite having the play book.

Boomer generation is the story of the ant and grasshopper.

However one may feel about Jews, they were ants who hard to gain more power, whereas so many white gentile boomers were like grasshoppers and took it easy as if California Sun will always shine on them.

Boomers shuffling through a parking lot oblivious to traffic. Walking down the middle of a lane. It's like Night of The Living Dead here in Florida.

Blogger rumpole5 March 01, 2021 5:13 PM

1. I am chilled. I'm sitting in a hammock chair enjoying the day as I speak.

2. I not only am chilled, but I learned a new word today! You must concede that stimulating VD to enlighten the ignorant is at least a modest accomplishment.

3. Here is a paste in of Webster's definition for the offending phrase:

phobia noun combining form
Definition of -phobia (Entry 2 of 2)
1: exaggerated fear of
acrophobia
2: intolerance or aversion for
photophobia

You will have to take my word for it that I intended the no. 2 sense. Being a mere bright, I didn't have "sichasia" to hand in my term panoply. Moreover, I agree that "sichasia" solves the rhetoric problem. Please do carry on with your 3 minute hate fest.

Blogger Homesteader March 01, 2021 5:15 PM

Why the endlessly strong responses to the Boomer threads? Why does the Boomer consort here endlessly flee, when no one chases them as individuals? Why do they protest so much, or think themselves uniquely free of sin?

Stuck nerves resonate, and Wisdom cries from the rooftops. In commiseration and recognition we fortify Truth, that we may turn from folly, and return to the Good, The Beautiful, and the True.

After all-If your g-g-generation has become a cautionary tale, why does this bother you? Does this also not serve God's purpose?

Boomersick means "we know your evils and reject them." Why would you not embrace this?

I, as a father, hope and pray that my children see my flaws, and turn from them. Flaws I freely acknowledge, and regret, and try my best to extinguish. I will answer to them, and rightly so.

I assure you- humility makes for a softer pillow, as pride makes for a rocky bed.

How about just owning your flaws, and apologizing, and asking God, and your children, for forgiveness?

(It isn't as though other generations are blameless; we Xers will answer in our time for our flaws; as will all those thereafter. I know you feel singled out- but then, solipsists always do.)

We judge our forebears, our posterity judges us, and Christ will judge us all.

Blogger Gen. Kong March 01, 2021 5:31 PM

Do you somehow think Uncle Yusif was just pulling our collective legs when he noted that "Education is a weapon whose results depend upon who is holding it and at whom it is aimed"? Who has been in control of the public schools for well over six decades now? At Whom has this weapon been aimed? Why do you think VD has been saying "homeschool of die" for at least two decades running now? In light of decades worth of results, it's now fair to state that anyone sends their kids to public school is literally offering them up to Satan. You are not voting your way out of this one either.

On the subject of boomers, Steve Sailer commented that he was leary of identifiying generations according to the dictates of (((Madison Avenue))). That is certainly true insofar as there was no good intention behind the campaign to do so. This was not done in the past. It's strictly a phenomenon of the 20th century. However, as VD has correctly noted, the first generation to fully embrace this manufactured "identity" - to the exclusion of native identities - were (of course) the boomers, who fell for it all the way. (((They))) didn't even come up with names for the previous and succeeding generations until years later. The main lesson to be learned from boomers is this one: Do not walk their path, for it leads to ruin. As Solzhenitsyn stated: Live not by lies.

Blogger Hammerli 280 March 01, 2021 5:33 PM

@71: I'm convinced that Western Civilization took sick in the First World War, became cripplingly ill in the Second. The World Wars were a second Thirty Years War, a conflict fought with a ferocity that shocked the participants.

But the Thirty Years War was fought by Christians, who understood the idea of repentance. They could resolve to again fight like civilized men, institute Laws of War that would hold for 250 years.

The World Wars were fought by a culture that was infected with post-Christian thought. They could not repent of what they had done and be forgiven...and therefore lost confidence in their own civilization.

And that loss of confidence lies at the core of many of our troubles.

Blogger Percy March 01, 2021 5:34 PM

They gave birth to you didn't they? I am sick of people blaming their boomer parents for the ills of the entire culture. The boomers were the first great MKUltra mind control experiment and their ungrateful offspring were the second. FAMILY DISTRUCTION COMPLETED.

The Samaritan parable is like an American Indigenous Indian who finds a cowboy in the gutter, walks him into a hostile frontier town, dumps him off at the hostel, pays the bill and goes back to his tribe. The exact opposite of immigration.

Yep, Boomers are well-represented on the "Bless Their Heart" page of my prayer journal. I also have a similar page for certain Millennials, five of them homeschooled (some days from the sick bed of their chronically ill mother), all of them brought up in the church, none of them on friendly terms any longer with their Boomer parents who would have none of their new-found religion, Critical Race Theory slathered in socialism.

Spending their inheritance is a temptation, I'm sure, but the Prodigal Son's father is a model of forbearance.

Soon as the Boomers are gone, we're gonna take over the world!

There are people your ages who are twice, thrice, the sons of hell in America than many Boomers. Fair enough that you blame some Boomers, or all Boomers, your mommies and daddies. Just let me know when you get over your group psychotherapy.

Ewwwwww! Gross! Only a Boomer would say that!

Okay, I was born 1959, have at it.

I wish I had a fist big enough to punch America in the face. God does. Some of you are going to feel it. Not because of the Boomers, but because you are Pillars of Salt. And, because He doesn't know you.

Are you a repentant tax collector, Boomer? Do you weep over how you betrayed and sold out your people for money? Has society's shame and hatred finally driven you to prostrate yourself in front of God Almighty?

Because if that were so, you'd be praying "Lord, have mercy." Not fellating yourself.

If anyone around here prays the Pharisee's prayer, it is the Boomer. "I thank you Lord that I'm not like the apathetic GenX or the useless Millennial or the addled Zoomer. I worked hard! Social Security isn't enough to retire on! I went to the MOOOON."

Is there a more perfect exemplar of Boomersick than the "cruise"?

I would suggest the simple acronym, BDS.

Blogger BeatYourHeadIn March 01, 2021 8:04 PM

The point of the rhetoric, which you don't like but misunderstand, is to ensure Boomerism dies with the Boomers.

Us of a higher mortality within the younger generations are actively unlearning the family-destroying mentality that constitutes Boomerism.

There's hope for Boomers realize that the elderly's place is to live close with their children and grandchildren and not to physically rot away the twilight years heavily medicated by a health care facility staffed by foreign nationals.

Personally, I've reassured my own boomer parents that I have no intention of seeing them off to some facility.

It's the incredible solipsism that gets me. Just get over yourself already. We have all made terrible mistakes in our lives, so we learn from them, ask forgiveness, and do our best to do better. Where and when we owe reparations we pay them. Where their can be none we can only ask for forgiveness and apologize for what we have wrought.

But in boomerland it's just me, I, and my. Oh I owe forgiveness? Well guess what other people do too. Oh I've done wrong? Well guess what I'm not the first one.

It's just an endless litany of I'm the best, I'm the best, I'm the best, followed by tell me I'm the best, tell me I'm the best, won't you tell me I'm the best one?

Puke

I admire your perseverance, and you got me beat in the dysfunctional family rating. My mother left my father when I was 2 over boomer nonsense not worth discussing and went on to have 2 more kids with two more men.

She ran from every father and thankful didn't have children with the several men she was involved with afterwards, and funny enough, followed my example and married her latest man a year after I married my wife of 11 years. She's still steeped neck deep in Boomerism, but she has stuck with her husband for a decade now and is aware enough to learn the benefits and necessity of a higher mortality from her own son.

God bless and good luck Sweet Lei!
