The last day is over

This is just a reminder that this is the last day for new Library subscribers to subscribe to Castalia Library without making a catchup payment. So, if you've been planning to do it, this is a good day to do so.

The current March-April subscription book is RHETORIC by Aristotle.

UPDATE: It's now April in Europe. New subscriptions will require a catchup payment. Thanks to everyone who got their new subscriptions in under the wire!

Is there a way for Castalia Library subscribers to skip books we may not want?

Blogger Nick "Pedey" Pedersen March 31, 2021 12:07 PM

Done. I’m very excited to build up our home library for the generations to follow me. Thank Vox.

Vox, just subbed. Thank you.

It is absolutely worth it. I just received my copy of The Divine Comedy last week and it is indeed something to behold.

I got my divine comedy last week. Amazing. Sorry for getting worried if it would come or not (it was my first book). Can't wait until I see my bookshelf fill out nicely. Rhetoric will be an excellent, educational read. Now the completionist in me is considering attempting to get the first 3 books

Signing up. Finally.
Once I sign up, then I can purchase non-sold out back issues at 50% off?
Really want the Plutarch. Should have gone for Meditations too, but too late now.

@1 P Glenrothes, Wait 3-6 months after the book goes out of stock. You'll probably be able to sell it anywhere from retail to quite a bit more. The going rate for Missionaries Library appears to be $350-400, if you can even find it.

Blogger Nick "Pedey" Pedersen March 31, 2021 3:26 PM

$50 off at a price of $100 per.

Blogger Ronius_Maximus March 31, 2021 3:56 PM

Very glad to see so many still signing up. I predict none shall regret it. I have been more impatient than I would like to admit waiting for Plutarch to arrive, but the books are just. so. good.

Is Politics by Aristotle the book for May-June still?

Blogger CoffeeGroundsBear March 31, 2021 4:47 PM

Any idea yet if there will be surplus copies for non subscribers to buy?

I'm crossing my fingers that we'll see reprints of the earlier books at some point down the road - I'd like the Meditations too.

Thank you for the reminder. Pretty excited to be subscribing to a worthy place instead of wasting my money on a wine club subscription ( takes the fun out of choosing wine locally).
Can't wait to dig in to the collection and begin receiving books.

signed up. Thanks Vox

Funny you mentioned this. I just ordered Libraria Castalia a few days ago. When I found out that Rhetoric was the next book I went and ordered Heidi since that's one book I really wanted in a goat skin.

You realize that you´d be leaving at the very minimum 200% value increase just to be a special boy, right?

@ #7, and #16 Sell it for more? That's how a Boomer would think. LOL

No. Either a) don't subscribe and buy the ones you want as one-offs, b) sell them for a profit on Abe Books, or c) give them as gifts.

The whole point of the subscriber discount is to make the subscription worthwhile even if you don't want every single book. It allows us to do reasonable print runs without risk of creating excess inventory, which is what causes most publishers to go under. One reason Castalia survives in an environment that has caused so many other small publishers to fail is that we are 100 percent focused on minimizing inventory in every way possible.

We plan to do repeat editions as one-offs - subscribers get the usual discount, of course - but with a different color leather to distinguish it from the first edition.

hey Vox, just wanted to say a big thank you! got my copy of the divine comedy a few days ago and it's beautiful! hope you get yours soon, cheers

Then you're not sending the emails to the right address. library AT castaliahouse DOT com.

Summa is the Nov-Dec book. The goatskin is being tested now and the cowhide won't ship for another 5 weeks. The subscription is not for rapid delivery. If you want books quickly, it is best to wait until they are printed and bound, then buy them a singles.

@17 P Glenrothes

Look at it as payment for helping make Library a workable venture to get you any books at all. If you still don't like it, pass those volumes on to a worthy homeschooling family for the subscriber rate or anything you can afford.
