The death of Jesus

From noon until three in the afternoon darkness came over all the land. 46 About three in the afternoon Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?” (which means “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”).

When some of those standing there heard this, they said, “He’s calling Elijah.”

Immediately one of them ran and got a sponge. He filled it with wine vinegar, put it on a staff, and offered it to Jesus to drink. The rest said, “Now leave him alone. Let’s see if Elijah comes to save him.”

And when Jesus had cried out again in a loud voice, he gave up his spirit.

At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth shook, the rocks split and the tombs broke open. The bodies of many holy people who had died were raised to life. They came out of the tombs after Jesus’ resurrection and went into the holy city and appeared to many people.

When the centurion and those with him who were guarding Jesus saw the earthquake and all that had happened, they were terrified, and exclaimed, “Surely he was the Son of God!”

"terrified" -- what a natural human reaction when facing the awesome power of God. Rare today, indeed more and more open opposition towards our Lord. So many evil-doers boldy doing evil with the boisterous and arrogant support of so many cowardly compliant sheep whose conscience is on Death Row due to ongoing serving the prince of this world... Sad.

Thank You Jesus for your priceless sacrifice, while we were yet sinners You died for us. Hallelujah!

When I was young and in our churches religion schooling, I thought it was odd the bible was careful to point out the legion vextillon of the troops.

Later I was in the Marine Corps and later still the army reserves, and I realized the power/majesty of certain units in different time frames.

Not just the Romans. The Old Guard of Napoleon. The Royal Regiments. The Zouaves. The French Foreign Legion.

Hell, in the cold war, the finest Soviet Mounted Rifle Regiment in the world was the American Black Horse.

I suspect in the second half of this century, the finest ground force in the world will be the PLAN Marine Corps.

We didn't deserve it. We never did. But He did it anyway because He loves us and knew we couldn't do it on our own. Like a loving father with a baby hellbent on grievously injuring ourself.

And Can It Be?

And can it be that I should gain
An int’rest in the Savior’s blood?
Died He for me, who caused His pain—
For me, who Him to death pursued?
Amazing love! How can it be,
That Thou, my God, shouldst die for me?

Amazing love! How can it be,
That Thou, my God, shouldst die for me?

He left His Father’s throne above—
So free, so infinite His grace—
Emptied Himself of all but love,
And bled for Adam’s helpless race:
’Tis mercy all, immense and free,
For, O my God, it found out me!

Long my imprisoned spirit lay,
Fast bound in sin and nature’s night;
Thine eye diffused a quick’ning ray—
I woke, the dungeon flamed with light;
My chains fell off, my heart was free,
I rose, went forth, and followed Thee.

No condemnation now I dread;
Jesus, and all in Him, is mine;
Alive in Him, my living Head,
And clothed in righteousness divine,
Bold I approach th’ eternal throne,
And claim the crown, through Christ my own.

At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom

And at that pivotal moment, the presence of God left the Temple, the Jews were no longer the blessed chosen people, there was no Moses sacrificial system for the forgiveness of sin, and Israel was doomed to destruction. If Jews didn't become Christians at that point, they were no better off than any pagan. The only chosen ones today are the saved by Jesus.

Of course, this is still true today.

Stricken, smitten, and afflicted,
See Him dying on the tree!
'Tis the Christ by man rejected;
Yes, my soul, 'tis He, 'tis He!
'Tis the long-expected prophet,
David's Son, yet David's Lord;
By His Son, God now has spoken
Tis the true and faithful Word.

Tell me, ye who hear Him groaning,
Was there ever grief like His?
Friends thro' fear His cause disowning,
Foes insulting His distress;
Many hands were raised to wound Him,
None would interpose to save;
But the deepest stroke that pierced Him
Was the stroke that Justice gave.

Ye who think of sin but lightly,
Nor suppose the evil great
Here may view its nature rightly,
Here its guilt may estimate.
Mark the sacrifice appointed,
See who bears the awful load;
Tis the Word, the Lord’s anointed,
Son of Man, and Son of God!

Here we have a firm foundation,
Here the refuge of the lost;
Christ's the Rock of our salvation,
His the name of which we boast.
Lamb of God, for sinners wounded,
Sacrifice to cancel guilt!
None shall ever be confounded
Who on Him their hope have built.

I can only fall to my knees and pray that Christ will forgive me my sins when my time comes to kneel in judgment before God. It is interesting how there is no other religion where the Diety humbles Himself via takung on human form and suffers so brutally to ensure our sins are forgiven...and all we are asked to do is believe in Him and try our best to follow His path. Such love for we pathetic humans can only be Divine in nature.

These happenings were JUST A BIT OBVIOUS to every single person in that time and place. C'mon, folks, if the darkened skies, the earthquake and the rest of all these supernatural signs didn't make things crystal clear to you, you simply didn't want to know.

And yet, so many refused to believe. Yes, REFUSED.

Before I got saved, I asked the question, "Why would a loving God send people to Hell?" The response I got from Christians was, "People send themselves to Hell." I thought it was a I see the truth. So many people simply refuse to give glory and praise to God, though it cost them their very souls. God gives them EVERY CHANCE, and they flat-out will not listen.

He is just and holy. This becomes more obvious every day, to those with eyes to see and ears to hear.

I'm pondering which of the law enforcement peeps I know, that would be cold enough and harsh enough to gamble for a dying man's clothes as he bleeds out over their heads. Or what pastors I know, that would be able to look upon a beaten, bloodied man nailed to a cross, only to say, "He says he's the son of God, let him save himself.". I wonder where my place would be in that crowd, screaming for his blood.

Psalm 22.
It is a Psalm of David when he was running away from Saul before becoming king. And it includes many prophesies about the messiah who was to sit in David's throne. I roll my eyes when Atheist use the "He became an apostate before he died" line.
When it's nothing of the sort. He's giving proof he is the messiah and people cannot hear, and fulfill the prophesies.
It also parallels Luke 23:34 "Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do."

I was sent a link to a recent Gallup poll showing decline in church membership. Of course, this was sent to me in a snarky way.

But, it got me to thinking about atheist's (I'm agnostic atheist). There's an irony to the way most atheist see their increasing numbers. They think, this has something to do with civilization "progressing". Moving past myth and superstition. That is how they perceive the data presented, in say, the Gallup Poll.

I draw a different conclusion. According to the dysgenesis hypothesis, the part of our brain with phylogenetic memories of religiosity (right temporal lobe, I think) is not developing correctly. An increase in atheism therefor no different than the increase in autoimmune diseases or left-handedness we observe.

In that sense, humans appear to be returning to an animal-like state with nature.

Would it be fair to suggest that humans who have religiosity develop metaphysical ideals that are unique to humans? Poetry or Classical Music, as examples. My guess is that when the average human completely lacks the ability to have any transcendental experiences, they'll be pooping on the ground soon thereafter. They won't even want the leaves, let alone flush toiletry.

Just rutting, f*cking, and consuming. Maybe the AI will keep them around as pets?

So, I wonder, even an atheist can understand the logic in Religiosity being uniquely human. How can anyone with a modicum of intellect think that losing it - is progressive?

And yet, so many refused to believe. Yes, REFUSED.

Years ago when I was younger, I watched an episode of atheist stage magician Penn Jilette's show where he claimed to conclusively debunk Christian miracles. He did not investigate Fatima, which was captured on video, or any of the other well-documented and widely-witnessed miracles, but instead picked out a poor black woman who fervently believed that the knotholes in her wooden paneling were Jesus' eyes to attack -- then extrapolated that to all Christian miracles.

In retrospect, I should have been more careful, given his profession of deceiving people for a living.

Blogger The Child April 03, 2021 6:12 AM

Jesus was a man of tremendous faith, and great bravery, to climb up on that cross. He was also wholly obedient to the Father, as twice He asked for the cup to be removed from him, but he faithfully carried out our Father's wishes, and has been suitably rewarded for the past 2,000 years, can you imagine being literally sat alongside the Most High Yehovah God, one with Him. Must be amazing (the Lord of Spirits of course, seen in Enoch's vision).

And it was only faith, as Jesus, like all of us, only have faith that we will be resurrected to life, or not die at all. Faith is so important. All martyrs have such faith, the ultimate test, and it's coming again for (hopefully) many millions, who will kneel and offer their heads, having faith they will emerge as the eternal victor.

And spare a moment of thanks for God Himself, as He chose to sacrifice His perfect and innocent son for the sake of His people, imagine putting your son through THAT, for no fault of His own, and to be separated from him for the first time. That's the love of God, under-appreciated by most, He suffered when His son was on the cross more than at any time in history.

In the time of the crucifixion and resurrection, Israel was not using pagan days, there was no rolling week, so Friday didn't exist in the scriptures, nor sun-day. And we know from scriptures that Jesus spent a full three days in the tomb (as Jonah was 3 days and nights in the whale), so clearly Friday to Sunday is a roman invention.

For anyone seeking the truth on the crucifixion-resurrection timeline, with the multiple translation errors corrected, you are welcome to read this.

I pray that the Holy Spirit and the love of God are with you all at these times, it's time to sort the wheat from the chaff, the Sabbath-keepers from the Sabbath-breakers, and only utter devotion and obedience to God, faith and trust through the blood of His son, will get you out the other side into eternal bliss.

"Rise Again" by Dallas Holm

Go ahead, drive the nails in my hands
Laugh at me where you stand
Go ahead, and say it isn't me
The day will come, when you will see!

'Cause I'll rise again
Ain't no power on earth can tie me down
Yes, I'll rise again
Death can't keep me in the ground!

Go ahead, and mock my name
My love for you is still the same
Go ahead, and bury me
But very soon I will be free!

'Cause I'll rise again
Ain't no power on earth can tie me down
Yes, I'll rise again
Death can't keep me in the ground!

Go ahead, and say I'm dead and gone
But you will see that you were wrong
Go ahead, try to hide the Son
But all will see that I'm the One!

'Cause I'll Come again
Ain't no power on earth can keep me back
Yes, I'll come again
Come to take my people back
