Fake democracy in decline

The Swiss and the Norwegians were the first to reject the grasping claws of the European Union. Now, in the aftermath of Brexit, the Swiss have confirmed that the European superstate is in decline:

Switzerland shocked Brussels by walking away from a closer relationship and into an uncertain future, but MP Thomas Aeschi says the Swiss will not be a cash cow eternally milked to keep the EU alive, preferring Swissexit instead.

Switzerland today is celebrating its breakaway status from the European Union, having finally tired of the bullying and rhetoric from Brussels and walked away from a proposed framework arrangement after seven years of negotiations, preferring to go it alone in Swissexit.

Never a full member of the EU, that decision leaves its relationship with Brussels facing an uncertain future. The two are bound together by a collection of 120 bilateral agreements that, one-by-one, will lapse over time. However, choosing to walk away from deadlocked negotiations was, it seems, not so hard after all.

With clear echoes of Britain’s divorce from the bloc, an imperious Brussels once again massively overplayed its hand and the Swiss eventually tired of the bullying, the rhetoric and the threats. They laid their cards on the table, stood up and walked away. That’s seven years of talks that amounted to nothing. Nichts. Rien. Niente.

Aeschi said that following the abandonment of discussions, “People will see the EU’s real face. They will understand that the European Union may not be as democratic as it says it is and that it is not truly interested in what the people want.”

The European Union uses the word "democracy" in much the same way that Stalin's Soviet Union or Biden's ersatz USA does, which is not even remotely synonymous with the customary usage as defined in the dictionary. What it really means to them is "in submission to the Promethean world order" and refers to something that the Arabs might describe as the Dar al' Tanwir.

Keep that in mind every time you hear Israel being described as "the only democracy in the Middle East".

Just out of curiosity, what happens if the Swiss decide not to abide by any or all of the 120 agreements?

I like a morsel of good news in the morning. Thanks.

I never understood the appeal of the EU as a democracy.
"I see you have total autonomy over your affairs.
Are you interested in joining us and having a 5% voting stake in your affairs instead?"
Retarded.

The "Managerial Elite" ain't so elite. In the West these days the formula is like that throw away line in a movie, "What does 25 million $ get you, White neighbors." So the managerial elite has a goal then proceeds to find ways to reach that goal by any means necessary.

I don't know how they keep the white serfs in line in the EU but here in America the conservative dopes are the most valuable resource they can be abused like the horse character in "Animal Farm" and yet they still toil to the tunes of Lee Greenwood, and they still make the same appeals to authority as if it is the eternal Reagan admin era. Keeping that scam alive is a lucrative biz for a few people.

Switzerland is the only country that has real democracy, so they can bloody well tell when something pretends to that status, but isn't. Unfortunately they still let invaders in. But perhaps that will change now the EU isn't going to be pushing them to globohomo their society into the ground.

The biggest screw up was the move from a trading community EEC.
To the EU.
It's been a total crock since.
Assholes that wouldn't make junior supervisor gradually expanding the incompetency of their position over decades without any democratic checking of do citizens want whatever it is they offer.
Stupid smug and ineffectual organization.
Get back to the original trade idea fast.
Probably far too late.

Swissexit doesn't have a good ring to it. How about Swiss-cession or ExoSwiss? Regardless, it's nice to see more and more people standing up for their own sovereignty.

So the Swiss have rejected German occupation 2.0. Maybe more will join them...

I can't imagine what it's like being in a European country, dealing with the problems caused by 'economic refugees', while the fat, Byzantine EU sits back and tells you it's all good and you're an arsehole if you think otherwise. I guess Covid has caused the membership of the UBMM (Union of Boomers Mediocrities and Midwits) to swell; but I can't see how the pushback will be anything but brutal. I guess that's why the media is doubling down on owning the brains of those their chipped, scrappy claws can still get a purchase on.

"choosing to walk away from [one-sided offerings, social contracts and other unspoken agreements etc.] was, it seems, not so hard after all."

And we should all go and do likewise.

Firing Netherflix and Devilmouse+ is just the beginning.

The EU, where 'former' communists go to become apparatchiks once again.

And where the nu-aristocracy / managerial class goes for unproductive employment.

"Democracy" and "Rules-Based International Order" mean the same thing. Rule by the democratic vote of an international order of cannibalistic pedophiles.

Jean Monnet had a strategy of exploiting every unexpected event or disaster to push for closer EU integration. They continually bounced people into rash integration and cultivated a traitorous national political class in every country that benefited personally from EU centralisation. Brexit began to unravel all the Liliputan twine that tied the UK in, glad to see others begin their own journey.

re: our democracy

the emphasis is on "our," not on democracy

the latter being a somewhat interesting concept though

What if nuking Iran had been put up for a truly democratic vote the evening following the sacking of the US embassy? That could have been some good democracy

@Jpc
''Get back to the original trade idea fast.

The original intention was to make the EU. There was never a time it was a simple trade agreement.

Right, about Israel. But if Trump had done what he should have done, we would be similar. That isn't a mark against Israel, that is something to be commended, and something... since our 'olive branch' was declined forcefully, unlawfully, unconstitutionally, that hopefully we can... ameliorate.

A right republic ISN'T a democracy. And a democracy is mob rule. Choices. An informed republic is what seems best. We either go back, or forward, to it again. Or we get eaten, one way or another. I think we will. Or, as is happening, we will simply opt out and walk away. I wouldn't recommend attempting to cage us in.

They're Swiss, not Jews or Americans. That's not going to happen

I live in Switzerland most only care about a quick boarder crossing as CH is in the Schengen region. The boarder “control” one might see is for customs purposes not passports. But even some of those are only open from 8-5pm. Fun fact : Swiss Air Force works M-F and they contract their air space protection to the French on the weekends.

The US situation is very similar to the European situation. Just replace the EU with the federal goverment, EU countries with US states and economic refugees with immigrants. Then what you wrote applies just as well to the US.
