An indictment of the Boomers

Peter Hitchens reviews Boomers: The Men and Women Who Promised Freedom and Delivered Disaster, a book written in the style of the highly influential Eminent Victorians:

While not quite impaling (among others) Steve Jobs, Camille Paglia, Al Sharpton, and Sonia Sotomayor, she deals brief, eviscerating sideswipes at the ideas and follies that brought such people into being and sustain them now. For this reviewer, a partially reformed 1960s bohemian, Bolshevik, and general scapegrace, these sideswipes were pure joy, the sort that make me cry out with recognition, or pound the arm of my chair. I say “partially reformed” because the things once inside me that the 1960s broke remain forever broken. I cannot be what I would have been if this had not happened, and I am not at all sure I would want to be. My main use to civilization, as a resister and critic of these things, comes from knowing who and what is now my enemy, in a way that very few conservatives do. It is a skill I largely retain, which is why I think that “Sex, Drugs and Rock n’ Roll” is a much clearer statement of the revolutionary program than “Workers of all Lands, Unite!”

So I saw repeated flashes in this volume of another book I very much hope Andrews will write, a lament for the great loss we have all suffered and which cannot possibly be repaired until we admit it, if then. Such a book will be so sad that it will make the sound of bagpipes played after a funeral on a windy hillside sound cheerful. But it has to come from someone at the beginning of life, not from some gnarled survivor of the lost world before the revolutions. Her opening chapter, a general segment on Boomers rather than on any individual, is the best part. Here is perhaps the most poignant passage in the book:

As a woman, if I had been born in another century, my schooling might well have stopped at age twelve. On the other hand, in this age I attended some of the best schools in the world until I was twenty-one and still didn’t receive an education those benighted eras would have considered standard. Is this necessarily an improvement?

Andrews cannily observes another often overlooked convulsion in thought: “The most glaring objective consequence of the boomers’ embrace of mass culture has been the death of both folk culture and high culture. Earlier generations felt obliged to graduate from the good-time music of their youth to opera and classical, upon reaching a certain age. Not the boomers.” I had never seen anyone make this point before. Yet it was exactly my decision to graduate in this way that opened a tiny gap between me and my contemporaries, which has widened over fifty years into an immense gulf. I am glad to have even a poor and sketchy knowledge of a part of the musical classics, but I think what I gave up is even more important than what I gained. For in abandoning it I learned how not to conform, and how not to care when found out. And I also ceased to hear that incessant pied piper, with his false promises of untold joys to come if I would just follow the others.

This brings us back to the destruction of formal education, the acquisition of defined knowledge based upon authority. I was caught in the middle of this change and am cursed and blessed with a constant painful knowledge of what I have lost. But those who came very soon after me do not even have that. They live unaware of it, in a fog of unknowing. It was this incredibly rapid removal of all landmarks, signposts, objective measures and maps which left us where we are now, lost boys and girls trying to invent our own ideas of the good, condemned to repeat every stupid mistake in human history, which really defines our age. Yet in the world of the boomers, the uneducated think they are educated. As Kingsley Amis long ago pointed out, we are at a party where the wine tastes like kerosene, the canapés are stale, the music is badly played on inferior instruments, the conversation is lumpish and dull, the clothes ill-fitting—but nobody cares because nobody has experienced anything different or knows that it could be any better.

The histories of the wicked g-g-generation are already being written, and the general tone of the verdict is already clear. They will whine and snark until they completely f-f-fade away, but it will all be in vain.

If I ever write a book on the Boomer g-g-generation, I don't think I'd focus on the famous individuals as archtypical examples of the whole. While the approach is informative and can unquestionably be very effective from the rhetorical perspective, which is why even serious historians like Paul Johnson have utilized it, I tend to view it as an unnecessary distraction from the more significant points at hand.

And in his criticism of the book, Hitchens explains why it is so important to indict and prosecute the Boomers in the court of intellectual history, contra the incessant complaints from the guilty parties. There are few things more tedious than Boomers crying about the younger generations damning them for their damnable choices, behavior, and social mores, especially doing so is a vital part of convincing those younger generations to reject the Boomers' collective path toward societal and civilizational suicide.

Any proper discussion of the cultural and moral disaster of our age cannot really concentrate on that age and those who grew out of it. That is just a tour of the ruins, without an explanation of why they are ruins. It needs to look a little further down, into the minds of those who inherited an ordered, free civilization and chose to throw it away. This is the mystery and tragedy of our time, and until we can solve it, it will go on forever, and perhaps be repeated in civilizations to come.

An important point: It is pointless to just tour the ruins ".... without an explanation of why..." boomers are boomers.

So, any thoughts on the "why?" Are boomers just genetically evil?

Blogger McChuck June 13, 2021 6:48 AM

As despicable as the boomers are, they weren't the ones who knowingly discarded the Constitution in the 1950's and 60's. To examine causes, we have to look all the way back to the admittance of massive groups of non-Western Europeans in the late 1800's. That led to women getting the vote, which led to socialist government and ignoring the laws and traditions of society. Which led to the vile Warren court and the 1960's congresses. Which led, inevitably, to the Boomers. And they reveled in the strip mining of our once-proud nation. At least the previous generations didn't think what they were doing was fun.

Are boomers just genetically evil?

No, they were presented with great temptation, and they comprehensively failed the test. It's all-too-typical that Boomers constantly seek to transfer all the blame to those who tempted them, and resist admitting that they swallowed the bait.

They fail to grasp that temptation and fall requires two parties, both of whom are guilty. Resisting temptation is always an option, but too many of them decided to pursue "freedom" from the traditions of their elders.

Blogger Unknown June 13, 2021 7:30 AM

The worst crimes of the boomer are two fold.

1. Pulling the ladder up after them. Keeping their defined benefit plans but cancelling them for everyone after. Legalizing all the illegals in the 80s, and keeping them flowing, and sending jobs to China and Mexico and India, all to prop up their investments. All to keep wages for everyone after them super low. Rock bottom.

2. The insistence on race mixing, knowing what it brings. The boomer kept their main home in the ultra safe suburb, and the vacation home even more safe, but forced their children and grandchildren to live in mixed neighborhoods and schools, knowing the children would be dumber, knowing they would be victims of violence and drugs in schools, and smiling about it.

There was an Abbot Lab commercial just on TV. A suburban street sidewalk. A small plastic car, with a white three year old running full speed pushing the car, and a black three year old sitting in leisure in the car.

That is the future the boomers sentenced their grandchildren and greatgrandchildren to. With a smile and a laugh.

Being heavily steeped in Ancient, Catholic, and Protestant history from a Eurocentric perspective, my knowledge of American religion is very narrow. But I almost want to say that the rejection of puritans and Anabaptists in Europe may have been a GOOD thing for them. Maybe? Europe has seen Christian death from corrupted institutionalized religion.

But our institutions were corrupted by movements that largely originated in our churches. How much influence did the Great Awakening have in turn of century progressive politics?

Blogger Opus June 13, 2021 7:42 AM

I balked at "As a woman, if I had been born in another century my schooling would have stopped at twelve".

That is sentimental misandry. Exactly the same applied to men! - in England the minimum school leaving age (the first) was set at eleven in I seem to recall 1841. That is not of course to say that there were not schools in England for girls before that date (my Mother's school was founded in 1729) which gave schooling after the age of eleven. Gt Gt Gt Gt Grandfather Opus could neither read nor write - but his son could. Such a level of historical inaccuracy and woman-centered nonsense from the authoress hardly inspirers me that the rest of the book will be any different.

Admittedly, I reside next to a university; but even townsfolk are do the same: most people wear t-shirts; we have become peasants in dress and manner. For the past four years, people -usually under 25 y.o. have wearing short pants even gym shorts -even in winter - around this town.

When I was in high school (boarder boomer/GenX) my mother who was a nurse went back to school to become a nursing administrator. She was told the number 1 problem with my generation was we were unwilling to hold up the standards. In retrospect this was projection. But the generation before did not successfully teach the Boomers either. It seems a pattern that affluent societies disconnect action and consequence. They see conservatism as evil and not the means by which a poor low margin society accumulated the wealth they are about to squander.

We are told not to judge others, but how then do you uphold standards? (Judge not least ye be judged is a comment on the golden rule, not as is often portrayed an injunction not to judge.) We see what our political masters are doing, erasing judgement and consequences as fast as they can. My daughter also tells me her generation has been taught that the government will take care of them (which she knows is false).

We can see the water run away from the shore, the tsunami approaches.

The entire boomer ethos was invented and disseminated by the CIA. They are criticized for adopting values they didn't really invent but rather were seduced by. They were a necessary transition to globalist man which successive generations have simply pursued further down the same path. Most of the complaints made here about them seem to come from envy that the party stopped before the complainants arrived. What's missing from this discussion is the voices and complaints of the silent majority of that era who were silenced mocked and ridiculed by the boomers who revelled in those changes on top of a poor education in moral philosophy which was also deliberate. Peter Hitchens is a boomer himself who gave himself the necessary philosophical education to discern these failings. He no doubt feels a sense of moral relief that he outlived his brother. Were all sophists now.

"Earlier generations felt obliged to graduate from the good-time music of their youth to opera and classical"

Sounds like an over arching plan to extend childhood, I think I am right in saying in olden times children were not treated as children but instead small adults? Then you have this idea of letting children be children and this constant extension of this into later and later years. I don't know, anyway it's been a few hundred years in the making at least.

(((non western Europeans))), most of whom miraculously survived the holohoax and came in large numbers uncontrolled after the war and took over our universities and were literally handed PhDs and professorships through Columbia University's New School. Watch the series Goy Guide to World History on Bitchute by E. Michael Jones and Kevin MacDonald. It is seven parts and focuses on what happened and why. Empiricism was the first victim. Another good work on what happened is The Closing of the American Mind.

No thoughts on “why,” other than the generic post-war prosperity theory. I’d note that it seems some of the people chosen for write-ups in that book (and I LOVE me them non-Boomer Beatles) were really only half-bad, a la Camilla Paglia and Steve Jobs, although it may well (already has!) be proven that Jobs had the worst impact of ‘em all.

What? Medicine is the ultimate failure to uphold standards. Black residents are admitted to specialty programs with step 2 scores that would keep whites and Asians out of the unaccredited family practice residencies in NYC.

Black grads can get privileges with 'Board Eligible' for years.

Nurses at top medical centers have to be bribed to use the hand sanitizers located every 10 feet before futzing with the IVs, knowing that not using one kills patients, and not caring.

Hospitals schedule 12 hour shifts to save on OT, not caring this leads to a 15% increase in fatal errors.

But none of that is boomer, it is all MBAs and Health Care Management grads trying to max out both profits and SJW points.

Re: "those who inherited an ordered, free civilization and chose to throw it away." Frankly, that would be my parent's generation, the "Greatests". Just one example would be the wanton destruction of Pennsylvania Station in New York City in exchange for a tacky sports arena and a depressing hole in the ground replacement station. It was a decision that would make Esau blush. A few years ago the Catholic Cathedral in Orlando did a renovation of the structure. Beneath the vapid, bland, late 60s front facade the renovators discovered a lovely traditional style wall from the original 1920s building. They wisely kept it. I bless in my heart the wise priest who preserved that facade beneath the barbarous 1960s "renovation". Every condemnation of the Boomers for not not doing more to reverse this stinking tide of history is valid however, but if we want to reverse that noxious flow it is important to know the truth of how the present sorry state of affairs came to be.

It just occurred to me: did the Boomers intentionally raise interest rates so their savings could blossom and pensions accumulate, only to lower them so they could buy more "stuff" in their old age? I'm not much of an economist but after looking at this through the Boomer's eyes, it seems there is something to it.

This morning, to all of them, I quoted Shimshon's comment, and included this explanation:
---------------
*An allusion of the 'day of the pillow' -- an allusion itself to the 'day of the rope' and to Antonin Scalia's probable murder... detailed as decrepit and/or demented boomers being 'pillowed' by the low-IQ, violent, vicious, immigrant nursing home workers the boomers have flooded the country with...

This is the primary ineffective Boomer defense. No one claims Boomers invented the values. The indictment is that the Boomers adopted, celebrated, and continue to defend those values.

Most of the complaints made here about them seem to come from envy that the party stopped before the complainants arrived.

In the Boomers’ defense they were subjected to an insane amount of social engineering, PsyOps, were the first TV generation, the first generation to uniformly attend K-12 school brainwashing, and were taught that the USA fighting WWII (to make the world safe for Communism) was the greatest act of selfless heroism in history.

Most of the seeds of America’s destruction were sowed by the Boomers’ parents & grandparents generations.

The Boomers, as a whole, are materialistic & selfish for sure.

Blogger Ariadne Umbrella June 13, 2021 9:01 AM

My father, classic Boomer, very politically involved, said they did it because "Eisenhower was boring." Real quote. I asked, because I'd just read a book about the 1950's. Social stability, pretty dresses, and 97% employment rates sounded great to me, an absolute paradise, to be honest. They did it because their childhood was boring to them.

My father went to a public high school, lower class, blue collar, and got four years of Latin. I had one year at a good school, and then moved-family fracture- to a majority minority school- where the majority of the students could not read English. My son had two years of Latin at the best high school, with the most expensive housing costs, and the book was simplified from what my father learned it, in his crummy, low end, blue collar high school.

Who knew peace, prosperity, stability, abundant culture, ambition was BORING?

Blogger Reziac June 13, 2021 9:07 AM

“Sex, Drugs and Rock n’ Roll” is a much clearer statement of the revolutionary program than “Workers of all Lands, Unite!”

-- see also Yuri Bezmenov on the Soviet program of "demoralization of the West". NONE of the "Tune in, turn on, drop out" movement of the 1960s was grassroots or organic; it was entirely stage-managed by our enemies.

And if the younger generations are so much wiser, why haven't they halted the downward slide? why haven't they restored our civilization to its former glory? Increasingly the complaints about stupid Boomers (who doubtless should have spanked that next generation more, and praised them less) sound like blacks bewailing historical slavery for their crimes and failures in the present.

Either do your part (a proper classical education for your own kids would be a start) or stop whining and admit that you're happily riding the avalanche into the pit.

Every subsequent generation has been subjected to more of it, and more sophisticated forms of it, then the Boomers ever faced. And yet, Gen X and the Zoomers in particular have clearly rejected their materialism uber alles ethic... even those who initially bought into it. Even the Millennials focus more on experiences than stuff.

Meanwhile, even the Boomers who claim to have rejected it are bragging about "the party" and claiming that everyone else envies them. They STILL haven't learned, as they only reject some of the inevitable consequences, not "the party" itself.

What part of "giving into temptation is not an excuse" is hard to understand?

Simply wrong. The charters of the various central banks tell the tale: Bank of England: 1694, Banque de France: 1800, Swiss National Bank: 1907, The Federal Reserve: 1911, Gosbank: 1922, Bank of International Settlements: 1930.

@14 "Sounds like an over-arching plan to extend childhood"

And yet, and yet.... Wanting your children to 'have it easier than you did' seems AWFULLY human to me! (Is that boomer? Or just human?)

The (WWI and?) WWII g-g-g-gen were deeply 'maimed' by their experiences. How could they NOT want to protect their children from the hardships of life? Silents and before had the stricter/better upbringing into adulthood; they no doubt hoped-without-thought that protecting their babies from the horrors of the world would not result in the children being malformed in the opposite direction!

My own border-boomer younger sister "raised" HER gen X? millennial? kid that whenever his parents went out, they *always* brought him a present: because SHE had resented it when our parents 'bought themselves something' -- not infrequently a FAMILY present -- but not one FOR her and she resented that. So she wanted her son to NEVER feel shorted in that way! (OH dear God!) She and her husband actually NEGOTIATED with him to give up his baby-bottle on his FIFTH birthday. (OH high holy hell!)

Double-edged knife: the desire to protect your child from every bad, uncomfortable, unkind thing, and the NEED to raise that child into actual adulthood.

No, the poor kid is not much better; he decided as a preteen that -- since he LOVED playing them, he wanted to grow up and design video games. {eye roll} When I asked if he was designing his own levels using the editors included with games, he said 'no, because 'they' don't use THAT editing SW in the biz, so he'd learn to use 'the real one' in college.

I pointed out to my sister that if *I* were a hiring manager, and my choices were a kid who began designing game levels at age 11 and HAD STUFF TO SHOW me; and her son who had played games for a decade and nothing to show for it but a college degree. I would hire the kid who had 8-9 YEARS of *design work*, however amateurish! She said: "well, it's okay, he ALWAYS has a home here." {eye roll}

Does it not go something like: "The sins of the father .... unto the third and fourth generations"?

Presidents Ford, Carter and Reagen (none were Boomers), ushered in the very high interest rates that we Boomers had to pay on mortgages in our 20s and 30s. You could argue that the interest rate is one thing that Boomers "fixed", because rates fell a great deal under Clinton, GW Bush, and Obama (Boomers all). Moreover, the present low rates screw the elderly (that would include Boomers) because they get less return on savings.

Importing half of Asia in the 20th century will go down in history as dooming America. Invasion without a drop of blood spilt. Low IQ nationals from Eastern Europe didn't help either, especially including their degeneracy in the form of strip clubs, brothels and trafficking. Christians are not made equal, within every group is r/K. The Gilded Age of rich ((businessmen)) started meddling with laws, now a monarchy wasn't breathing down their necks. Personally, I'd point to the college professor who, in an American case in the 70s, gave an unmarried couple contraception, as the beginning of the end. I believe that was a Boomer but might not be, the couple sure was. The Pill was the Boomer's poison apple.
@6 I know the Boomer by how they judge me for NON-indulgence, it's an uncanny way to spot them from other gens. Words like prude and frigid were more important to them than a future and values. Racist performs the same now. Sometimes the lad culture of Gen X who tried to be the next Boomers in London are as bad, and have written 'thinkpieces' in places like the Telegraph how awful it is young people aren't degenerate enough (I believe focusing on not being alcoholics). I've been told by Boomer alcoholic relatives they feel entitled to my liver, which says it all. The entitlement. They seem to buy into the James Bond hype that alcoholism is glamorous and womanising is something to be proud of. A generation of wastrels and rakes who slaughtered the West's golden goose. Considering that overall story was based on the Scarlet Pimpernel, as I've told them, like all superhero stories, it's notable Superman et al were never married. Is happiness and an extended male lifespan for squares too? Percy was married and besotted with his wife, it hints at the values the Boomers could have upheld. The Boomers are cynical in a way that destroyed culture, and I still get biting sarcasm for expressing an interest in higher culture over the Beatles, cobbled together from free resources online. They have actively tried to stop me. No Boomer ever encouraged a love of the arts, even the good ones. A list for young people getting into it - art, music, plays, would be appreciated. We don't know what is real Western canon v Boomer subversion. The failure to lead culturally will be seen as true rebellion, I think. TV over ancestry. Free from sanity. They intellectually abandoned us and still compete with their children, envying them their 'youth'. "Youth is wasted on the young" = "I hate my kids and culture" I find.

None of vice's boomers "fell victim to", are new, by any stretch of the imagination. These sinful compulsions have existed for as long as mankind. The boomers received some of the finest education, before it went to garbage. They(my dad, and uncles) had a high school swimming pool, Latin classes, trades(including advanced) classes. They did away with this for their own progeny. Pocketed the cash from it, then gloat about getting "a real education". The only reason a person, or group would do this is because they are seriously fucked psychologically.

I'm so sick and tired of people defending boomers. I understand why boomers have to defend themselves, they have backed themselves into a corner, but why on earth would anyone else?

From "Meditations" by Marcus Aurelius, to Zein und Zeit by Martin Heidegger, to the words of Christ himself, we have been give the knowledge, wisdom, and most importantly, the tools to overcome the works of inequity, the only generation since Sodom to indulge so fervently in them are the one generation who refuses to repent, the evil, vile, vindictive, narcissistic, egomaniacal, solipsistic, spoiled, greedy, lustful, vain, spiteful, self absorbed, naval gazing, lying, cocaine snorting locusts, known as, the damned to hell baby boomers. So why, for the love of God, WHY, defend them?

Even with some early subversions in the show, "I Love Lucy" is a great way to see what we'll never have again. I was watching "The Adventures of Superman" sometime last year and couldn't believe this one off-handed scene, which wasn't presented as anything out of the ordinary. Keep in mind, this 1950s show takes place in NEW YORK. The scene starts inside this little corner shop, can't remember what he sells. Someone comes in, asks for a product, and the owner indicates that he's fresh out, but he knows that kindly Mr. So-and-so just down the street still has some in stock at his shop, you might try there.

I seriously cannot even begin to imagine what it must be like to live in a world where New York is that neighborly and nationally conscientious.

No one said anything about "the world's problems". We are blaming the Boomers for their actual and confirmed crimes against society and civilization.

No doubt you refuse to hold races responsible for their crimes too. How very Boomer of you. Don't worry, no one will call you racist when they hold the pillow over your face. Unless, of course, it's the African orderly at your nursing home who's doing it.

You see, Boomer, societies that want to survive hold people responsible for their crimes in order to prevent them from committing more. If you had paid any attention to the entire history of Man before you, you would know that.

Being heavily steeped in Ancient, Catholic, and Protestant history from a Eurocentric perspective, my knowledge of American religion is very narrow. But I almost want to say that the rejection of puritans and Anabaptists in Europe may have been a GOOD thing for them. Maybe? Europe has seen Christian death from corrupted institutionalized religion..

That's the paradox.

The English and Scots-Irish who founded the country are able to "get" the ideas that back up the Constitution in a way that even Continental Europeans are unable to, let alone nonwhites. Which is why you see them (plus the Catholic Irish, who have historical resentments against the English and Scots-Irish) inclined to vote Democrat even today.

At the same time, I firmly believe this is an ethnic trait, and not religious. Because the English and Scots-Irish were Protestant and Continental Europeans tilt Catholic, it gives the misleading impression that Catholic = Marxist (which the current alleged pope doesn't exactly help). Never mind that before the Second Vatican Council (1962-65), Catholics were universally regarded by the Communists as their most problematic opponents.

And English Puritanism has become the wokeness of today, melded with critical theory. We've seen the WASP elites that used to run the country hand it off to ethnic grifters such as the (((tribe))) and the blacks with smiles on their faces. And Puritanism ultimately derived from Protestantism, which appears to have an intrinsic death wish that may also be seen with German and Swedish Lutherans.

As a late stage Boomer (born in the '60's), I agree with the Boomer criticism. Those my age were probably the first casualties of Boomer culture. While the Hippy generation was taking over and getting all the media coverage as "The Age of Aquarias", my peers and I were impressionable grade school kids having it shoved down our throats at every turn. It looked attractive as sin always does. You had the older generation in black and white, straight-laced suits (think Rat Pack) vs the neon-colors of the Beatles and "Flower Power". To a 7 year old it was like the difference between brocoli and ice cream. So we bought into the, "Love" and "Peace" slogans everywhere, grew our hair long, dutifully studied evolution in school, and watched the carnage start.

We actually believed, "Tune in, Turn on, and Drop out" was some deep philosophical wisdom and pissed away our educations in brainwashed stupidity. We didn't catch that since the actual Hippies were 10-15 years older than us, once they realized their utopia wasn't working out as advertised, they just went back and finished college, then on to well paying jobs.

The family carnage was devastating also. My parents divorced, no doubt helped along by the general permissiveness of the time with the constant drum beat of, "free love", "mini skirts", and "Woman's Lib". I responded in full time rebellion.

I caught on in my late teens (late '70's). By then both parents had died, however I had also become a Christian which completely changed my world view. That was my "Ok Boomer" moment. I can report that at least half of my friends of Boomer or early GenX age have turned away from Boomerism and to Christ. There are still those who stubbornly cling to the failures of the '60's though.

Regarding not progressing to higher level music, I went to a James Gang concert 10 or 15 years ago with a Boomer friend. I wasn't really into them but accepted the invite to be with my friend. While we were were sitting waiting for the concert to start, I was looking around at the crowd. They were a bunch of Boomers that looked like they hadn't progressed past high school in dress, or attitude. It was a collection of overgrown kids who had their maturity stunted decades ago.

Obviously there is a lot of generalizations that can be inferred from my experience, and of course there are exceptions, but for the most part, this is how things were and are. In retrospect, Woodstock is a good encapsulation of what Boomers brought to the table. It started out looking like this profound event, but by the end it was just a bunch of drug-addled kids wallowing in the mud.

Boomers were the first generation to go in for full surgical 'gender reassignment', that says it all really to my mind. A total unwillingness to engage reality, but rather to want to mould it in your ideal, however fanciful and impossible. Satanic to the letter.

@12 this is the infuriating thing, they do judge, and they reward evil. The incentives are backwards, regressive, deliberately. The idea of being cool might be the root of dysgenic Boomerism. I had this discussion as a teen, with other teens. The gov was throwing money at criminals in our age group, free education and job opportunities, and we got nothing for being law-abiding. The pathological altruism (Oakley) is evil. They tried to destroy us and largely succeeded. Listen to how they speak of Gen Y when we're pretty much ruined financially and Z are the new teens. We all have backpain from carrying the Boomer dead weight, who still refuses to save for retirement. A Guardian article hilariously said a woman in her 50s was 'too young' to think about retirement and younger people in the comments exploded at her. I think they're a wo/manchild g-g-g-generation.

@14 Childhood is Victorian, especially preserving childhood innocence. Boomers never wanted to do that. They want sexual corruption (earlier and earlier grooming in the form of 'sex ed' before piaget's critical thinking kicks in at 13-15) and ignorance (of history, culture, common sense).

@28 their religion is destruction.
@29 I noticed SJW women and men take dating advice from Boomers. It's like looking for a virgin at an orgy. Pet theory is Boomers married the 'bad eggs' and complain about future egg quality.

@30 one set of Greatest grandparents only married because of social disapproval if they didn't. "People wouldn't talk to you!" - my grandmother. I literally wouldn't exist if the Victorians clinging on at the time didn't have standards. The Mod era in London was pre-Boomer orgy, from how it sounds. They hate classical, love Neil Diamond. Spare the rod, spoil the child. They had no discipline growing up post-war, feral children. I think the men dying off in ww1 messed with the culture, few old men around to keep them orderly.

@47 replacing their own children with brown ones at top schools and unis shows them up to be cultural cucks. Sodom wasn't technically as bad as 60s California, London, Paris and Berlin. What did Sodom do, that they didn't? Anyone? Many modern men are sodomites in action, they just do it with women - ((porn)) normalises it.

As a woman, if I had been born in another century, my schooling might well have stopped at age twelve. America is where people road tested social theories. The theorists have been in America since the beginning. The difference is that the cult was usually left alone. They weren't able to seduce an entire generation, until the Baby Boom. Prior to that, everyone else had the good sense to laugh at them, jeer at them in print, and socially isolate their children. One generation, and only one generation, threw it all away to join the circus.

For that matter, everyone since then also has the good sense to walk away from perversions. I am including people walking away from converged Churchian organizations, as well as people not attending sci-fi conventions. Shopping malls are failing, as are department stores, so materialist cults aren't doing too well these days, either.

"Any proper discussion of the cultural and moral disaster of our age .. needs to look a little further down, into the minds of those who inherited an ordered, free civilization and chose to throw it away."

As someone who escaped the left (I was raised in the left and had to discover reality and the western tradition for myself) this is an issue which has consumed a great deal of my time and attention. I've come to suspect this is fundamentally a genetic problem, specifically a sort of domestication effect. I believe there is a cohort within our population which simply lacks the social instincts to build and maintain healthy societies and that this cohort is only able to successfully reproduce within the confines of a society built and maintained by others. Ironically, this means the more secure our society becomes, the more numerous this destructive cohort becomes.

A major factor in my thinking has been the early work of Jonathan Haidt: an evolutionary psychologist who spent much of his career studying moral psychology. His early research found five core moral values common to all human cultures, four of which correspond to social behaviors evidenced by all primates. This suggests that those five values are rooted in common social instincts which are necessary to build and maintain human societies. Haidt's work also found that people who identify with the left outright lack most of those values and cannot understand or predict the behavior of those who possess them. (Sadly, Haidt came under no small amount of political pressure and his later work has degenerated as he tried to accommodate his critics.)

Haidt's early work suggests (to me) the political left is defined not by a set of political beliefs they hold but by a set of social instincts and moral values they lack. Leftwing politics is a sort of pathology, akin to autism or psychopathy, which makes it difficult (perhaps impossible) for sufferers to relate to others and be properly socialized. Ordinary people can become caught up in this pathology as it speaks to some of their values, and can later escape its cult like confines as I did. Sadly, the core proponents of leftist thinking are likely irredeemable, and the only long term fix (short of eugenics) is to institute systems for identifying those who lack healthy social instincts and moral values and keep them away from any sort of social influence and power.

An indictment of a whole generations seems extreme or even absurd at first glance, but there's at least two reasons to indulge:
1) It's important to examine the other side, the science of mass manipulation. Edward Bernays is famous for writing about propaganda / public relations, but what went on two generations after is so far past his concepts that it's a steel skinning knife versus a sharpened flint stone. The control of both sides of any major boomer debate, such as psychedelic drugs, is fascinating. One one hand you've got the "square" side which refers to the death of Frank Olson as 'man on acid jumps out window because he thinks he can fly,' while on the other side it's 'one person doing something stupid doesn't mean the rest of us will,' and the hippies are justified in their own minds because of how stupid the squares are. In reality it's a 90 degree perpendicular direction of thought 'CIA made the counter-culture and murdered Olson before he went public,' that hits closer to home. Another example around 'suggestogens' is the enigma of Dr. Timothy Leary. He writes "Doors of Perception" inspiring counter-culture shaman Jim Morrison to call his boomer anthem band "The Doors." But then there's the documented testimony of Leary before congress, telling them how dangerous the drugs are and that they HAVE to be made illegal - which they were. The control of both sides even extends to Morrison's family, Naval leadership, military intelligence. It could be said the deck was stacked against the boomers, which leads to #2.
2) It's an examination of the power of free will. If the boomers are a definable generation, then I see myself and my contemporaries as such. This is such a specific, particular time-themed vibe that after honestly being addicted to alternative media / patriot radio for 5 years, I was able to distill and process it down to two important voices - Corbett and Pilato. Miraculously they are both within weeks of my own age. To make it more bizarre if not for an arrest warrant and its effect on my career change I almost did what Corbett did - go to Japan to teach English. The people my exact age, I see as the only people worth worrying about. We are artillery rounds fired roughly 40 years ago, and the only thing that matters is where those shells land. We can change our flightpath and hit the target, or we can eat the dirt and affect nothing, as most artillery in fact does.

By now it's clear that the guns are disassembled, and the generations that follow are duds. It's not that I don't care what the newer generations do with their free will, it's that I can't make the decisions for them - only for me. Take the example of the boomers to heart, and do it differently.

Those aren't WASPs, but Jews pretending e.g. Ralph "Lauren".
Would you rather live in a culturally Puritan society or a Jewish one?

@59 Boomers are proof why older generations were sometimes correct to ignore old people as crazy (lost their wits) except they were always reprobate. Boomers simp for their natural enemies, pass it on. They actually think minorities like them, when many of the Gen Z who hate them are minorities themselves.

@76 It's like running a club, don't let the foreigners in. They are not stupid, but malicious. They were warned by scores of elders and youngers and we still hear the smug PC lectures on how enlightened they are for being Judas. r-bubbles in population pop eventually, usually by plague or war and lead to a Renaissance of survivors, AC touched upon it. I'd love a book on the Renaissance generations because we'll need to be once Boomers pass. Moral relativism as you describe is the ideology of the psychopath (Dr Hare's work), it is a-morality, no wonder so many of their icons are terrible people e.g. Lennon - race mixing wife beater singing about peace. Begin in your home! Studies of socialists say they cheat more. The Left's tactic is rationalization of evil and intellectualization of their moral superiority. They are atomic solipsists, and crushed the working class spirit with international competition. The working class used to read the classics and attend grammar schools in my country. They destroyed them, class war will be told as part of their tale, the anti-whiteness punches down. They simultaneously claim morals, especially evil, do not exist. They're mad. Morally insane. I believe the Left is worst in America due to high herpes rates and future biology will conclude the brain lesions discovered in such cases cause leftism and importing vibrants, much like the rat disease that makes them cuddle up to cats. Then there's gay germ theory and people in arts and politicians attend boarding schools, which rape as culture and call it fagging. Most autism is male personality disorder, misdiagnosed to appease parents, it better suits ASPD by symptom because both are 'low empathy' (for others) conditions. Spergs make awful husbands, if you read testimonies online, heartless. I've seen other PDs in lefty men, usually HPD (Don Draper types), NPD and Borderlines, male borderlines are actually worse than the women, believe it or not. Society spots the women and scorns them, the men have a victim complex. Seem familiar?
People say a license to breed but that used to be marriage. Cut off all welfare to unmarried couples, simple. Maybe children of rape get a little income for not aborting it but the rapist must go on trial. Lefties hate accountability. You can't have welfare queens without welfare kangs.

Watching the film Notting Hill is distant and strange to young people in England. Huge houses, optimism, all white cast, high trust more or less (for London), people end up in happy couples, with kids. Then Labour's mass immigration waves started... we're so film obsessed (and mocked for it) longing desperately for a civilization we'll never know. Nostalgia for an era we never lived.

I'm a boomer and I come here to learn. I can agree that my generation has many faults, but crime implies willful and deliberate harming of others.
Will this present generation be blamed for the non-vaxx even though people from previous generations are responsible?

I remember the 60's and a comic with a group of beatniks holding signs that read "Down With Conformity." They were all dressed alike.

While my generation decried conformity we became homogenized coast to coast just like motels, fast food chains and supermarkets. The Beach Boys were popular in the midwest and girls dressed like Cher.

The (((Weathermen))) instigated rebellion against the Viet Nam war and more.
Sex, drugs and rock and roll (pill, pot, popular music) were the agents to change the nation. I didn't take that route. Many of us didn't.

So, yes, a failed generation, but not collective guilt for riding a wave to a shore they could not see.

The great crime attributable directly to the boomers is final destruction of the education system in the USA. Boomers voted in the school boards that destroyed K-12 education in the late 70s and 80s Boomers were the teachers of Gen X and the Millennials. Boomers voted for the politicians that gutted school funding to save on property taxes while at the time supporting every hair brained educational theory and demand of the teachers unions. First they did away with the classics, then art and music, and practical shop classes. Boomers refused to uphold standards and recoiled in terror at anything that looked like an absolute be it morality, ethics, or grades. Now the products of the that mindset are doing the same with math, science and language.

I'll tell you one area where the boomers really deserve to be "offed" over and that it the housing bubble. I think the FED, along with congress and the rest of Wall Street, is deliberately pushing another housing bubble just to keep housing values high for the boomers. Now this bubble is being "outsoursed" from Freddie and Fannie into investment management funds such as Blackrock and Vanguard. These funds are using leverage to buy up housing all over the country. One guess as to where the leverage is coming from and one more guess as to what will happen when all of this goes tits up. Does the expression "too big to fail" mean anything to you?

All of this is creating a massive distortion in the housing markets that, in turn, is screwing all of the current young people today (and anyone like myself who really doesn't want to play the game). This is one area where the anger of the young people at the boomers is entirely justified.

Another area is the financialization of the economy with all of the big company CEO's looting their companies through leverage buyouts (private equity funds) and stock buybacks to enrich themselves. Jeff Emmmelt, which is an appropriate name since he melted away much of the value of GE, is the poster boy of the boomer CEO.

Now they are pushing this "stakeholder" capitalism which promises to be even worse than the "shareholder" capitalism they pushed previously, all just because they swallowed the fraud of global warming hook, line, and sinker.

Indeed it does. The chance to reply to you gives me the opportunity to correct one of the things I wrote and improve on another. viz the year in which it became compulsory to have any education was not 1841 but 1871 - it is that recent - just three years before the birth of my maternal grandfather whom I knew! The other concerned my two mentioned ancestors for I felt it might be assumed I was making an assumption based on the Act of Parliament. That was not the case. In 1756 there was on a certain Tuesday in a certain village in England a Wedding which my two said ancestors attended and were witnesses at the ceremony. One signed with a cross, the other with his name. Those bare facts can then lead us to the following conclusions: that the father was both sufficiently wealthy to afford to pay for schooling and sufficiently aspirational. One can also surmise what the son might have read which his father on those long and dark winter evenings never could. In terms of generations these events are really only the day before yesterday.

I might add that so far as education is concerned I have long realised that even by my time the rot had begun to set in: whereas my ancestor learnt the three Rs what today do people (including the author of the article) study? Gender studies, Critical Race Theory, Queer studies?

Vox, I'm wondering if you could comment on the idea I have that "housing as an investment" is an evil idea and that instead, housing should simply be considered as a place to live. If housing is seen as an investment, then you are motivated to increase it's value which creates the problems of:
1) Making housing less affordable for the lower and middle classes.
2) Encouraging companies like BlackRock to buy up properties and renting them out.

For all the cultural and legislative hell the boomers engaged in. The biggest failure of the boomers was not raising their children. The "more fortunate" friends I had growing up were pawned off on a coach, scout leader, or youth pastor for a few hours a week. Most of the rest us were parented entirely by public schools, MTV, and our peers. But hey, theres a key under the mat, frozen meals in the fridge, 50 channels on cable and a Sega you can play.

Gen X doesn't despise you because you're old, they despise you because of your actions and lack thereof. Not because of how you "raised" us because of how you "razed" us by absentee non-parenting. None of my generation I know of wants your Harley, classic street rod, gaudy RV, or vintage vinyl collection of mediocre music.

Gen X mostly just wants you gone. If that sounds harsh, Good! Remember most of you have been effectively dead to your children and theirs for a long time.

The Boomers where the first to be so collectively and comprehensible tempted via mass media and the distilled professional mass deception.

Still Boomers had a choice upon reaching mature adult consciousness. They could of put their youthful indiscretions in the past and strived to repair the damage so clearly wrought onto our culture and heritage.

Whatever calling to repentance the boomers heard they instead followed again the deceiver into selfish indulgence via the prosperity Gospel. Now, well know things are as they are..

Pretending to like atonal modern music appears to be more of a boomer thing too, come to think of it.

Classical music departments in the most "reputable" woke universities and conservatories are being killed because of it. Instead of thinking maybe people don't want atonal music, they double down.

Bach, Mozart, and Beethoven, if they were to be transported to the present day by time machine, would get absolutely nowhere in the current woke classical music world.

And in the Catholic Church, substitute the bullsh*t Mass of Paul VI from 1969 and the other "revised" (invalidated) bullsh*t sacraments as the Boomer sacred cows. Similarly, younger Catholics, at least those who've kept the Faith rather than going woke-irreligious, are more inclined for pre-Boomer sacraments, which the current Boomer hierarchy tends to dismiss as a "fad".

No, it's the dross of Vatican II which is the fad.

The edgy rock station plays most grunge and post-grunge stuff (9 Inch Nails, etc.). I never hear late 60's early 70's rock anymore, aside from the occasional Pick Floyd or Led Zepplin. Boomer you need to understand the severity of your sins, both personal, and generational. This is but a brief list that will be displayed in front of God, Jesus Christ, and our righteous ancestors. You will answer for this. You need to repent, you need to apologize, to God, to us all.

You chemically castrated your progeny, your own sons... Boomer, you put your children on powerful psychotropic stimulants. You artificially elevated women in society to the point of incredulity. Boomer you treated your own daughters as goddesses, and each others daughters as potential sexual conquests, instead of possibly worthy wives for your progeny. You treated your own sons as serfs, peasants, and tax slaves, and each others sons as sexual competition... Sometimes even your own sons... You have destroyed 2000 years of Christian patriarchal family led by righteous Godly fathers... You will answer for this.

Earth, and its precious flora and fauna, to which we are supposed to be stewards, is currently in the throes of mass extinction. You boomers knew nuclear power was suicidal, Chernobyl, Three Mile Island, Fukushima... You had 50 years, half a century, and you turned your back on a nuclear hell fire capable of extinguishing all life on Earth. This world died, while you "partied". You killed what was entrusted to you by your Creator, your Father in Heaven. That's not to even mention your habit of aborting large segments of entire generations... You will answer for this.

The list of your criminal sins is so long it would require an encyclopedia, so to save myself from having to write one. I will condense this for you... Boomer, listen to me boomer. YOU ARE THE MOST EVIL GENERATION IN HISTORY. You need to seek forgiveness, and you need to go away. Bootstraps!

Also vicious: when "progressive" educators tell kids to "be creative!" "innovate!" "do what you feel!" "don't be inhibited, let it all hang out!" "teach YOURSELF!" Ignoring that even the brightest of geniuses needs a grounding in basic knowledge and in his interests, as the foundation and catalyst of creativity. And yes, that means structured instruction, the more rigorous the better.

Imagine the vices "progressive" education speaks to: laziness, narcissism, riot. "Hey, teacher, leave those kids alone!" And most teachers and parents eagerly agreed with it, or much of it, because it appeals to these vices.

That bright students have to cobble together a self-education by spending time alone in the library, since hardly anything is taught in class to anyone because it's believed that instruction "stifles innovation," is nothing to brag of: it's an indictment, not of Rousseau but of the generation that went full-hog Rousseau or near as dammit.

Although it could be viewed as a blueblood selling out to marry a slutty hot gold digger American and the degeneracy of the fruit of that union. The father is so weak he's worse than Homer Simpson. The show gets less popular the more woke they try to make it, so there is demand. Interesting how black girls think white men are cultured and riding in on a white horse to save them (sugar babies, gold diggers) and the inversion of Bridgerton.

Boomers think they'll have a choice in whether society gets to euthanise them. Hey, did the aborted kids get a choice?

@113 "Who else is buying a house right now, especially in the Midwest? Nobody can afford them."

Wasn't that largely caused by the idea of "housing as an investment" which started with the boomers? If instead, housing was treated as a place to live (but not as an investment where you make tons of money) then housing costs would have stayed at a sane level. If in 1960 I buy a house at $10,000 and then I sell it in 2004 at $400,000 I made some money, but that means the average person is less likely to be able to afford it.

I was simply wondering if someone smarter than me could:

Warfare and migration did an excellent job of filtering out nation and culture. When no strong bonds to anything good that are taught to children degradation becomes the easy path chosen.

In raising children I am amazed at the things that I actively need to teach, things that used to be seen everywhere and could be unspoken at that time. Now I realize that as the bonds of family and location were steadily broken the only tangible links to family became inheritable property, and the depression stamped an incredible material desperation on to the parents of the boomer that they ingrained deep into them, such that all things cultural, nationality, traditions, customs, religion, and principles were subborned to possessions. Throw in birth control in all its forms to eliminate a huge chunk of family, incentivize both parents to work, and consign children to the state, and the choice to boomer becomes easy as was intended.

I'm not the only parent who thinks about these things over the decades. Investment is not just about money, it's about what follows after you. It's about connections to family, history, locale, and culture. It has always been an active choice, and there lies the damnable crimes of the Boomer for choosing the easy road. For all the descended generations afterward, the greatest lesson to be handed down is the opposite of boomerism: that life is not about you, it does not stop on your death, and what you leave to continue growing is the measure of your worth as a man.

@110 had a Boomer art teacher like this. Refused to teach anything classic. Stole a painting of mine (of an angel) and made us change our projects to pop art. Encouraged only one boy who wanted to be an architect and he sounded extremely Marxist. This was years ago, she almost fancied him. Weird vibes. Sexually competed with all the girls in the room and refused to let any girl sit with him. Could barely draw. Hated anyone, especially teenage girls, who could draw better. Punished good drawers, forced me to paint some ugly immigrant girl for my exam. Punished anyone with talent. In an ART CLASS. Put off most of the class who were talented from becoming artists. That's what they're like. She wasn't an outlier. First painting I ever did, Boomer relative stole it, before I'd actually finished. Stupid Boomers. Currently relative complains nobody visits them. Who steals from an 11 and 16yo?

Humoured a Gen X English teacher by spouting you go girlism. She actually thought she was making a difference. I literally copied her talking points verbatim and got an A. Kids are now just humouring them like kids and mocking them. She compared Eminem to Shakespeare. Naturally, she chose to go on about Jews and Merchant of Venice over anything good. The worst book I ever read was Mockingbird. It's total fiction, classist trash sneering at 'rednecks' from middle class comfort for holding a rapist accountable. The whole class hated it and expected me, the nerd, to stick up for it. I said no, you're right, it IS an insult. We're culturally gaslighted into self-loathing, menticide.

@115 white privilege is Boomer privilege. Think about it. Immigrants don't wanna be white, they wanna Boom. But there's no Old Guard to parasite from. They assume whites are interchangeable.

@124 respect is earned. I told a Boomer I didn't respect them once, because they assumed it in passing and they were genuinely shocked. This is someone who always told me respect was earned. I asked them for ONE thing they did to earn my respect? They were speechless and genuinely shocked. I'd say they have no sense of duty.

@127 I think the tax exemption for re-purchasing another property is a Boomer rule, and responsible for said Bubble. It was supposed to apply to the home you lived in, it's being applied to sprawling landlords with hundreds of properties and companies owning properties. It should only apply to an individual person, not a company, and only to the place you or a relative will actually live.

Most of the complaints made here about them seem to come from envy that the party stopped before the complainants arrived.

No you idiot. We're complaining that the party you fools had completely trashed the house. It was the best house on the block by far when you started your party, but by the time the last of you finally leave the premises, we'll literally, not metaphorically, be lucky if the plumbing still works.

You're still so fucking obnoxious and self-centered that it would defy belief if we hadn't witnessed it our entire lives

The only worry I have about how the Boomers will be thought of in the future is that someone two hundred years from now will read a factual account of them and think that they can't possibly have been that awful.

In housing price rise You are confusing the actions of Boomers with that of Banksters. Since some of the Banksters ARE Boomers, and many of the Banksters are (((Banksters))), it is a complicated cast of characters and motivations to be sure. The general problem is Banksters and governments (of all stripes) are stealing the value out of money. When I worked as a Bagboy at Krogers in the late 1960s I got $1.90 an hour. Today I saw an advert sign wanting fast food work promising $10.00 to $15.00 per hour. If one counts that as, say, an average of $12.50 per hour, then the wage for that kind of basic work has risen 6 and a half times in the last 50 years. You must also consider that in this era many women demand to work. This doubles that household hourly wage to $25.00 an hour. In any case, all those extra earned household dollars, chasing a limited number of houses, are one reason the prices shot up. Also, what a buyer expected in a house has changed. Drafty, un air conditioned, One bath, houses, with tiny rooms and closets, were the norm when homes could be gotten for $10,000. The average square footage and amenities in a new house have changed considerably. One can't built a new house here in Florida without expensive hurricane grade triple pane windows. I recently had an estimate to replace my $200.00 per air conditioning window unit system with a mini split one. They Wanted several thousand dollars! The window units work just fine, thank you.

My Boomer grandparents that literally grew up in the old rite and happily embraced the new one have criticized me for abandoning the faith saying I'm attempting to stop progress of the faith into a more evolved understanding. To which i have respectfully told them that their progress will stop and die with them. I pray for their souls to be saved and ideally they'll convert before their pillow day comes. However, it does not seem likely unfortunately.

Question for Boomers. What has it benefited you to inherit the earth when your family and society are the price?

Blogger Sam June 13, 2021 4:24 PM

You need to factor in artificially low interest rates. Monthly payments are affected by rates, and low rates mean a high ceiling on housing prices. The market is simply charging whatever the consumer can bear monthly. If that happens a few times in your area suddenly every shack is overpriced because pricing is established by "comps," as the brainless realtors call them.

Blogger Jack Amok June 13, 2021 4:34 PM

Vox, I'm wondering if you could comment on the idea I have that "housing as an investment" is an evil idea and that instead, housing should simply be considered as a place to live

I'll chime in with my own thoughts. You're right, it's in general an evil idea. In the frontier days, if you helped build a town, contributed to turning a wide spot in the road into a viable community, that could justify your property going up in value. But that wasn't the house itself that was an investment, it was the community.
Simply living in a place for a few years doesn't justify making money off of it.

But that's what Boomers came to expect. Now here I'll freely admit earlier generations were guilty of this too, and the Boomer's only special failing in this regard is doubling and tripling down on the scam once it was obvious that it was a scam, but then that's how Boomers operate, isn't it?

Anyway, this idea of real estate being an investment and a money maker is a big part of what's driving the dysfunction of our cities (which, being cities, start out partially dysfunctional anyway, since cityfolk live in them). The incessant need for growth to fuel the real estate and development and construction industries has cities engaged in growing at cancerous levels, importing foreigners and stealing people away from other cities, building new suburbs, office towers, highways... the combination of congestion and a hodge-podge of cultures that don't understand one another thrown together and simply too many people for the built environment (aka housing crisis) makes cities today even worse hell holes than they need to be.

Brian Dean wrote:Wasn't that largely caused by the idea of "housing as an investment" which started with the boomers? If instead, housing was treated as a place to live (but not as an investment where you make tons of money) then housing costs would have stayed at a sane level.

Normal inflations/delation, adding wealth to the home or property by improvements, and even the area becoming more desirable are all legitimate ways to profit from selling your home, but the "housing as an investment" attitude leads to an anti-social rootless society. People disengage because they have less skin in the game.

I currently live in the Tampa Bay area and see this on parade every day. We moved to FL 6 years ago and genuinely wanted to be a part of and build community, but 90% of the people here are carpetbaggers and illegals with no real attatchments. They are horrible friends and worse citizens.

I'm echoing Miles Mathis here, from one of his recent papers.

Boomers don't realize that their culture and thinking was the result of a psyop. The source of this psyop was a civil war that broke out between several cohorts of the Greatest Generation at the end of WWII.

Basically, several cartels gained control of the government after WWII, across the military, industry, research and academia. They abused the high-trust society generated by winning a war. This prompted a large cohort of men criticizing the various scams that these cartels were pushing. This culminated in Eisenhower's famous MIC speech. In response, the various government grifters went on the attack. Because the critics had the ear of young people, who are attracted to novelty, the grifters decided to attack that novelty by pumping it with contradictory information. This is how a movement that may have been critical of war, began wallowing in eastern religious nonsense, drugs, and general apathy and degeneracy. It's why Timothy Leary, an obvious cartel agent, would promote drug use and argue for its illegality before Congress. Drugged-out degenerates don't make good revolutionaries. People steeped in contradictory information become demoralized and riddle with mental illness.

The Boomers never grew into understanding what happened to them. Their programming was so complete that they institutionalized the psyop as they started taking power. And here we are, on the verge of civilizational collapse.

I'm a GenXer. The Boomers suck. GenXers also suck in a little different way. Millennials suck in yet another manner. The "Greatest Generation" also sucked because they generally did a poor job of raising the Boomers.

Western civilization had been collapsing for well over a century now. It wasn't all the Boomers.

The Boomers did more than their fair share of inheriting a fairly functional society and then flushing it down the toilet.

My Boomer parents (technically dad born in 44 is at the tail end of silents and mom in 47 is an early boomer) are quite a bit better than most boomers. They are celebrating 53 years of marriage this month and their three kids all turned out pretty well. Loving Jesus and living in rural areas makes a big difference.

The first generation that sucked on the teat of the media was the one that spent every Saturday in the theater watching B movies and made sure they warmed up the vacuum tube radio to hear FDR's Fireside Scats, baseball games and boxing, the Green Hornet and Fibber McGee and Mollie. These programs, along with the contemporaneous ads are freely available online.

It's fascinating to hear how elevated the vocabulary was 70 and even 85 years ago, when most people ended formal education after high school. It's also fascinating to hear the commercials that pitch cigarettes with lines like "the brand more doctors smoke".

It got more invasive when TV came about and Boomers grew up on idiocies like "Duck and Cover", "Howdy Doody" and the narcotizing Devil Mouse Club-where the the necessity to imagine was removed.

And now we have Farcebook...Tik Trap, Instacrap..and TV went from portraying married couples in separate beds, to two dudes in the same bed.

The Biblical illiteracy on this forum is shameful. If you don't care about temporal, physical gain then move on . What you do with your own life if the test of your mettle, not your bee-atching about Boomers.

Ezekiel sums up the "Boomer" generation and subsequent generation's complaints in Ez 18:1-4 with a direct response from God.

Ez 18: 1 The word of the Lord came to me:

2 “What do you people mean by quoting this proverb about the land of Israel:

“‘The parents eat sour grapes,
and the children’s teeth are set on edge’?

3 “As surely as I live, declares the Sovereign Lord, you will no longer quote this proverb in Israel.

4 For everyone belongs to me, the parent as well as the child—both alike belong to me. The one who sins is the one who will die.

The rest of the chapter describes God's view. A Gen X,Z, Millennial bubblespace of butthurt isn't going to save you from anything.

All of this crud, I say all of it, can be laid at the feet of one thing:
Cheap, widely available contraception.

No other generation had it, and the Boomers' feverish embrace of it doomed us all.

Every
Single
Problem we face is due to it:

Feminism - wouldn't even be on the horizon if women were always busy with their children, which would inevitably arise on marriage
Immigration - wouldn't be happening if the local working-class population had been replaced locally
Marxism in its various flavours - again, rendered mere sound and fury in comparison to family life
Plummeting wages - caused by immigration, see above
Messed up children - caused by mothers having to work
The death of white cultures in Africa - only started when the local whites stopped replacing themselves.

Until contraception is abandoned, not one of these things will ever stop.

Pope Paul VI was prophetic, for all his faults.

The music angle with boomers is a big deal. Owen brought it up while talking of Zoolander and how music was used in the plot.
There is a reason why boomer music blares 24/7 on at least one radio station in every region.

Every eternal boomer I know, who continues to boom along happy as clams and entirely oblivious to either the problem or the cause of it, still listens to the same crap they were into as teenagers.

I know of no other generation that does it. Yes I still have my Iron Maiden albums but have not played them in years.

It's all about conditioning.

Notably there are few stations centering on GenX. If you got all those latchkey kids re-experiencing their past, boomers would start having fatal accidents.

"poor-quality cars with bad handling and no aerodynamics, "

I can vouch for that. Boomers came of age as early as 1963, but would not be in charge for a while. I have been working on and restoring cars from the late 1960s through the early 1970s myself since the late 1980s.
The cars from that era, given how tooling did not change as fast back then, were meritorious in their design advances and horsepower gains, but designed by silents and WWII gen for the most part.

From around 1972 onward I can see encroaching boomer influence in the workmanship. Crappy welds, poorly done spot welds, and sections that rolled off the line without protection.

Worst of the matter is that the late boomers pretty much abused and threw away the older cars.

By the mid 1970s the cars were ugly, made of cheap stuff, and saddled with really stupid regulations passed by politicians that boomers voted for.

Compare the 68 Mustang Mach 1 to the 78 "Cobra 2" for example. They killed the car industry just out of being stupid boomers.

The badges of old, like the mustang and Challenger to name a couple, have slowly returned to the glory they should have had in the late 70s. And you can compare the arc of this return to the rise of GenX in management and the boomer retirements.

As to America's farcical public education system, it started to go South rapidly in the late '60s, which coincides with the coming of age of early Boomers..One main cause, Teachers unions, another the increasing requirements for education courses, acknowledged by all as virtually worthless, if not harmful.A third, forced integration, putting white kids in with very low IQ minorities. The result--many classes led by people of low intelligence and little knowledge, and pitched to 85 IQ children..Considering GRE scores, education majors are the dumbest people on the planet, by a lot..Yet these people were replacing the English and science majors who had been teaching in the 50s and 60s...Boomers response? “Do we blame a current 25-30 year old for believing that "man-made climate change" is a real threat to life on Earth because he was subjected to a lifetime of enviro-propaganda”

Boomers are not 25-30 year olds. And yes, if the current 25-30 year olds are believing it at 40-45, you’re damn right they get the blame for what they believe. Much less 56-crustyold. 25-30 is pushing it.

At some point, the lying ends, and the recognition that the physically adult have their own brain, regardless of how indoctrinated they have been. They will hold on in spite of SSH. Making it their responsibility, their choice. And if that is their choice, f-them, let them enjoy their pillow.

I hear boomers virtue signal about Buffalo Soldiers, like we’re supposed to just that ring because f-ing black. People smart and aware enough to do better. But they fucking do it anyway. No mercy for those that who unrepentantly embrace wickedness.

The worst crime of the boomers is the awful, unconstitutional legislation they produced and awful, unconstitutional legislating from the bench they engaged in time and again, without shame or remorse. And still do. US District Court Boomer Lynn Hughes ruled that Houston Methodist had the legal right to force employees to be vaccinated.

A pox on him and his house.

Have you ever known a woman to take responsibility for anything other than positive outcomes. Anything else, and the first words from a woman's mouth are always, "But he said...." or "Bit he told me..."

Women haven't changed one iota since Eve.

There are these things called "Books" which, other than the fiction variety, have no other purpose than to teach things to the reader.

Of course, women avoid non-fiction books unless forced to read them by a teacher or Prof. Facts that were discovered more than a month ago simply don't interest them.

There is little so amusing as a generation where a large percentage of the influential bought into the idea of ignoring their elders. Then expect to be given the reverence by their juniors, who in a fair amount have to look back to earlier generations for those that deserve it. Sure, the media pushed the abhorrent idea but too many bought it and did their best to sell their children on it. Reap what you sow.

Blogger Dafo June 13, 2021 10:20 PM

Vox, I hope you write a book about this. The boomers seem equivalent to a poor person who won the lottery, or the depraved son of a powerful rich politician. (Hmm… it seems those who rule us are a mere reflection of our society.) But wealth aside, rejecting the morals was a terrible unforced error. You have an ability to communicate those things really well, so I hope you do.

Blogger Avalanche June 13, 2021 10:30 PM

@108 "If boomers hadn't murdered half my generational cohort in the Womb ... Some things cannot be erased or ignored away."

You mean you actually wish you could have saved the several million violent, low-IQ black rapists and murderers that would have born, if only their violent low-IQ welfare mothers had NOT done the world a favor and flushed them?!?

Do you truly feel those were in your generational cohort? Look around at the ones extant -- do they contribute anything particularly worthwhile to our nation and the world?! Or do you think only of White babies, killed because the would-be parent(s) were spending so much money via welfare on those vermin-breeders that they had to chose against what would actually have been your generational cohort?

Who is your enemy, or as Big Bear would ask: who is your master? When you give EQUAL value to your actual "genetically related, very extended" family as Steve Sailor calls it -- as or higher than the value of the invader and destroyer offspring who damage both your family and the civilization they have built -- then you're half-way to being an enemy of our people just on that! If you will not ACCURATELY DEFINE your enemies and do or allow what is needful to destroy them.... then you're in the traitor category, not the 'onward Christian soldier' category!

Blogger Unknown June 13, 2021 10:31 PM

@150 true, but men benefit from contraception more than women. In surveys, men want more abortion clinics than women. It's like STD clinics, it tends to bail men out of the clubbing party lifestyle and alimony. Women usually want to have kids, while men... well, making deadbeating women on purpose illegal would have better effects and end the ghetto in one fell swoop. It could also be argued to protect women, real patriarchy. Take the bullets out of the gun and offer degenerates vasectomies for a one-off bonus. This prevents both rapes and abortions from them and again, ends the high time preference. The left blames women for the mutual act of babymaking because they fear the power of men. So being lefties they ignore it and turn a blind eye. Also the Pill is an abortifacient, this fact must become common knowledge as to its mechanism (women on the pill have told me they''d 'never' get a chemical abortion because it's 'evil') and Christians have no business using it. Some men engage in reproductive abuse and drug women's food with it, including their under-age daughters. It's become semi-commonplace in some trashy areas. Make that illegal too. Drugging your kids with tranny hormones, this is the same thing. Women can get oestrogen dominance and other life-ruining health problems that can ironically make them infertile. They're not even having sex, it's 'as a precaution' and already, legally, poisoning. We don't know what the long term effects are of that BS and they're giving it to a child due to their own paranoia.

@164 you didn't answer the question. A society with porn and abortion OR neither of those things. It isn't hard. A society with degeneracy and debauchery or peace and clear rules or you're free to leave. Sounds close to libertarian promises to me. 'We have our way or you go'. Strong borders. Family focus. The anti Puritan propaganda is ironically SJW since they subverted their tactics for anti-family. They weren't mad, they just had standards. They kicked people out if they disobeyed, which is what Europeans always did anyway. Why ask for standards and whine about mores then cry about the only Americans who ever had any?
I'd just settle for a society without usury/debt slavery/debt bondage.

You know, I have questions about the shirtsleeves to shirtsleeves in three generations meme.

Ben Gadwin researched out thousand year old family businesses around the world. They are all over the place. Second, there's the study of powerful, wealthy families in a town in Venice. The same families were powerful five hundred years earlier.

Then there's all the different theories about wicked families from literally thousands of years ago remaining coherent, cohesive and focused on some major goal.

I think shirtsleeves to shirtsleeves is a myth where thieves comfort themselves after taking someone else's patrimony.

I must say the accusation that Gen X et al. want to have the Day of the Pillow because they want the Boomer stuff is laughable projection.

It has to be. My Greatest generation grandmother passed away a couple years ago and left behind a bit of an estate. Her Silent children and Gen-X and younger grandchildren had no interest in her property except to make sure her wishes were carried out and that everyone got a chance to have something to remember her by. Sadly, we discovered that her Boomer descendants had a serious grabbler streak we were unaware of, and would have basically looted the place if they weren't watched. It left such a bad taste that I doubt there will be any more family get-togethers, at least until those Boomers are gone.

Blogger Badpainter June 13, 2021 11:07 PM

I find the defensive boomers hilarious. Probably because I am GenX. If there's one thing GenX has to answer for it's generalized indifference. Me specifically, I'm indifferent to sensitive feelings of boomers, and their rationalizations.

What the boomers in this thread don't seem to get is we are talking about them, but not to or with them. Any appearance of such is merely coincidence.

The Boomers were born into the ruins of Western Civ caused by communism and world wars. The exception is the US and Canada, but these nations were not ready or capable of taking on the roles that Britain, France, and Russia had played (with Germany being the Great Power strangled in the cradle).

Blogger The Overgrown Hobbit June 14, 2021 2:19 AM

@3 Mr. McChuck, if you want root causes for the Boomertaint, it is not the mass immigration of Eastern European Sons and Daughters of Abraham and Sarah for all that these provided many cords in the rope. They were easy marks: So many paid the price of for the misbehavior of ruling caste [Jews] at the hands of furious Christians.

No doubt the Masons added cables to the skein. Their rule that all politics and *all religion* be abandoned at the door of the Lodge, and their occultism provide fertile ground for Satan to sow a crop of corruption.

Then there were the myriad Deists and aristos who needed to justify their wickedness without losing the comfortable, and obviously vital, institutions founded on and run by Christians. Without the churches, how can one organise one's grand utopian dreams? Noble or asinine, the Churches could provide foot soldiers and motivations for any Cause. Daddy Long Legs was an-eye opener in that regard: a best-selling book for teens, made into popular stage plays and movies.

No doubt there are other threads that those digging into U.S. social history will discover. It doesn't matter, except as a distraction. Well sure SOME Masons and their stated beliefs are literally Luciferian. But look at George Washington-!

Irrelevant. That all these groups existed, and collaborated (knowingly or not) on a common project is the thing.

What is the one project by which
America's gatekeepers were replaced by the 1930s?

The erasure of Christ Jesus and the gospel message.

It is easy to miss, down in the mire of clown world. Because in those early days stories and schools and social groups were allowed to keep God, and the 10 commandments, and the rituals, and the public show. Just...leave Christ out of it. Ca ira

And since no-one comes to the Father but through the Son. Well, 'tis not so long or so wide as a barn door, but 'twill serve.

I'm really beginning to think the Bible was warning us of the dark ones, too. The story of Cain and Abel (Cain just lazily picking up vegetation while Abel worked hard to herd cattle because red meat feeds intelligence, which is why God likes it, being the supreme intelligence), other stories about "lest the beasts of the Earth overtake you", stuff like that.

A Brazilian writer in the late 60s, born in 1912, called the then-young Boomers "the Karamazov generation" as they were all wishing their parent's death so they could get their inheritance.
So yes, it figures that they now believe their descendants only want their property...

One thing can consistently be said about the choices that when faced, boomers as a generation failed. But, to quote Robert Frost, “Two roads diverged in a wood, and I — I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference." We all face the same choice individually and collectively in which I contend the "road less traveled by" is bowing the knee to Jesus Christ as one's Lord and savior and indeed, "that has made all the difference." Your choice.

Use logic. When (((they))) came over, (((they))) weren't immediately at the top of the social hierarchy. Someone let them ascend there. And if the WASPs were there before, logically, it was them.

They were already a disproportionate percentage of slaveholders before the Yankke War to Invade the South. So your timeline is off.

They were also essentially handed Phds as soon as they got off the boat after WWII, so the climb to national influence for that group of them was neither long nor steep.
