Corporate cancer kills quickly

Nickelodeon proudly leaned into the predatory market and managed to lose more than 70 percent of its audience:

A bigger hole is forming for Viacom, however. Whereas Paramount+ is growing slowly, their children’s programming platform, Nickelodeon, is imploding. That’s not an overstatement.

Since July of 2017, Nickelodeon’s viewership has dropped from 1.3 million average viewers per week to a June of 2021 average of only 372,000. In only four years, Nickelodeon has dropped more than two thirds of its audience. That is catastrophically bad for the cable channel, but with cable on the way out, maybe it’s not so bad? The catch here is that it is, in fact, that bad and perhaps worse, simply because Nickelodeon seems to be the primary driving force behind new subscribers to Paramount+.

It’s thus easy to see why Viacom is leaning so heavily into older Nickelodeon content. Perhaps hoping to capitalize on what once worked versus what is rapidly losing audience, the company has resurrected Rugrats and iCarly (among other shows) to try to drive nostalgic fans to the service. But there are signs that Viacom has not learned any lessons and is retrofitting these old shows with the same principles that have resulted in Nickelodeon’s huge loss in ratings....

Nickelodeon’s latest fiasco was a Pride Month video that you can see above. Featuring a drag queen singing to prepubescents, the YouTube version was downvoted to such a degree that they’ve now hidden the ratio.

That's an impressive collapse. Keep in mind the massive dropoff was before the ongoing Pride Month fiasco; it may be more than 80 percent by July 2021. But the sooner these awful organizations die off, the better. Don't watch them. Don't support them. And don't let your children's minds be polluted by them.

However, note that once more, conservatives would rather complain about the wicked than celebrate - or even mention - that which is good. How many "conservative" individuals and outlets that have complained about the entertainment industry have so much as mentioned Arktoons?

Fun factoid always shoved in White right wingers' faces is that at least 50% of children under this or that age whatever they choose that day are non-white. So basically unless Nick was so "white centric" that the precious children of color did not watch it then it stands to reason that parents of precious color do not care for the "woke" BS.

Conservatives especially the intellectuals would starve if locked in a grocery store. I'll take a stab at this, since it is Viacom that at the executive level it is jews making this decision and then they let their idiot gimp goys act out their degeneracy.

Bold prediction time about twenty years from now as the last Boomer shits his bed, suddenly for no reason at all the usual happens.

"Wait, wait, wait, stop the execution!"

"What ees it thees time?"

"You can't execute me, because nobody's watching this anymore. Have you seen the ratings for the network?"

(Adam hands a copy of the ratings to El Capitan)

"Ohhhh, señors, Adam's right, literally no one ees watching!"

(Assorted "Si"'s from the firing squad)

"And you know what happens to networks that nobody watches?"

"They go bankrupt!"

"Yes, they do."

"And what happens to the employees of the company?"

(El Capitan now walking aimlessly in front of the prisoner)

"They get fired!"

(Bang! Bang! Bang! Shots come from the firing squad, as El Capitan is mortally wounded for the 100th time because of doing something like this)

As someone who grew up watching cartoons as a kid, including Nickelodeon I'm praying that Vox decides to create more children's content (cartoons) in the future, because cartoons are dead. I'd hate a world where our future kids miss out on Saturday morning cartoons.

This is why globohomo is "going for broke". The brainwashing is failing. They would not have to go to the lengths they are at now if they were in control.

And that drag queen singing clip also showed, it is probable, what looked like a teenage bear that had breast removal surgery. I have seen it on the chans.

But overall, the fact that their religion is being rejected bothers them. This is why they constantly shriek about racistwhitebigothomophobe over and over. They can force all kinds of crap with their control of the signal, they still can't force everybody to watch it. And everybody is now suspect too. It's like the last days of the Soviet Union. Everybody would speak the dogma and nobody would stick their head up to be chopped off, but legitimacy entirely dropped out from under the regime as hardly anybody took it seriously.
It was only a matter of time at that point.

I second the request for kids content. I want them growing up in an all- arktoons environment. kids coloring books, fan art, kids comics, then tween, then teen, then grownup, then movies

It doesn't surprise me that they'd rather complain about what is wicked than celebrate what is good. Cultural Calvinism, i.e. indifference or hostility to the arts and storytelling, is still a very strong component of the right in America, though there are some honorable exceptions to this lamentable trend. It's a component that doesn't get mentioned enough when it comes to changing arts and entertainment. Yet I'd also wonder how many entertainment industry complainers know of Arkhaven's/Arktoons' existence.

Blogger Iron Spartan June 15, 2021 10:24 AM

Its not just the pride crap, its the whole woke culture that gets shoveled into everything.

I have kids in Nickelodeon's target range so I watched the decline in real time. My kids used to watch a lot of shows. They were fun, the characters were interesting to kids. Now? Everything is bland. No drama, no humor, nothing anyone cares about. And the Woke Specials are great for getting my kids away from screens completely.

The only show they watch now is SpongeBob. They used to love Kid Danger. They couldn't care less about Danger Force. The Loud House they still kinda like, but the Casa Grande's are some weird parody that someone who has never actually been around Hispanics seems to think they behave. The new rugrats, which I hated the old one, just looks disturbing. The visual style seems to be early 90's CGI with the uncanny valley cranked up. iCarley is missing the best characters so that is going to bomb. I am not sure that bringing those programs back isn't just to desecrate the corpse of something that was fun.

They will never admit they are wrong, even as they destroy the network.

Avatar the Last Airbender was a legendary show loved by a generation, but when they made a pozzed sequel that had nothing in common with the heart of the first show, it was clear Nickelodeon was dead. They literally pulled their own show off TV because the ratings were so bad, even though they had one more season to air. I have nothing but disgust for Nickelodeon for pushing gay propaganda onto children. I hope they are shut down by Viacom.

Blogger Desdichado June 15, 2021 10:52 AM

There's tons and tons and tons of kids content available. And usually pretty cheap on DVD. Because the market for DVDs of Popeye or Loony Toons or Heckle & Jeckle or old Mickey Mouse or Donald Duck or Goofy shorts or even for more 70s-80s style stuff like Thundarr the Barbarian or Scooby Doo means that you can pick that stuff up cheap. And if you control what you own, then you know exactly what your kids are getting.

For those who still have cable TV, METV has many classic shows from the 50s and 60s, like Bugs Bunny Comedy Hour, and other cartoon shows. They also have Twilight Zone, Alfred Hitchcock, & lots iof Westerns.

Blogger Ariadne Umbrella June 15, 2021 11:08 AM

I let the youngest two go free range online. They found Russian live action stuff on their own. They found other children's shows, like kids making little videos where you could see their hands moving the little action figures, with kid level dialogue. I don't think anyone understands how low the production values can go, if the story is right for the audience. The daughter found Taylor Swift videos. The boy found youtube gamers who talked about their family with love and respect.

Right now, they are on videos of Scooby Doo and Studio Ghibli. Gravity Falls and Teen Titans, for streaming low effort. They found this on their own.

Scooby Doo is at least forty years old. Studio Ghibli stuff is at least twenty years old. Their older brothers grew up watching library videos that were educational, low production values and twenty years old. They also all watched Peanuts cartoons, which are sixty years old.

There is so much room in the market for new, good stuff. So much. So very, very, very much room. There is time for a production to earn out it's cost to make and then some, over and over.

The $150 million for a few weeks worth of tech accessible cartoons is pocket change.

Japan has done better story telling for kids than anything coming from Hollywood. I will let my kids watch appropriate Anime where they can still see men as men and women as women. You know the ones who have boobs and are not she-men. Japan still treats the man in a dress as what it is, a joke.

Not even cable.
Free over the air w a cheap HDTV antenna can likely find one station in the local market that has MeTv or one of it's retro clones hanging as a secondary broadcast channel o off one of the local Big Four network TV affiliates. BD, could you lay off the wild leaps of character assassination?

I still let my kids go free range online. They can read whatever their little heart's desire at the library and at home, too.

Fortunately for me, when people get skanked, their illustration skills go down, so the book covers are grotesque and frightening, rather than appealing. Even if they are trying to appeal to innocent children, somehow it looks off.

Youtube has an "if you've seen" feature. Toddlers watch Ryan videos. When they get older, they watch Ryan's mom's educational videos. There's some guy named Preston, who is happily married to a beautiful woman. He makes videos about how encouraging his family is, and how much he loves his mother and father and brothers.

All of this is far, far more charming than anything on television.

Many Boomers including very based ones literally can't understand the idea of refusing to watch media on ideological grounds. Its far too foreign to them or maybe they are just too old to care.

It doesn't matter how you present it, they'll watch anyway. Any that would have stopped did long ago.

Given however they are all old , it only matters for a little while longer and younger people, even older Gen X who can get it will.

On the ICarly note, I had the misfortune of seeing an episode while at the Dentists office (no smart phone at the time) the first thing I noted was the lead's best friend was portrayed as an outright sociopath. That kind of gave me an ah hah moment and I understood why there was so much morality policing in the past. Take boots of necks and themes that are fine for adults will be used to corrupt kids. When I was younger I thought the censor happy crowd were well intentioned if a bit extreme now I know better. They were correct.

I think you misapprehend them:
If you talk to, or listen to an number of them they'll frankly tell you that they, The Woke, are ‘never wrong!’; rather, it is simply that you aren't intelligent enough nor evolved enough to understand The Woke's plans and/or explanations!

That's why they never admit to wrongs nor errors.

#56 Thank you, Overgrown Hobbit. I will pass that on to the kids.

It was interesting watching not-yet-literate toddlers figure out how to navigate online. They'd look at the pictures- the icons- to figure out youtube, google, stuff like that. Google has auto-complete, so, like, kids would show up on playdates with paper strips with the letters that auto-completed to Littlest Pet Shop or Taylor Swift, and type it in, and figure out from the shape or length of the typescript, if it was what they were looking for. When they made it to youtube, they would navigate by thumbnail illustrations.

I saw some immigrants who spoke ?not even Spanish? use it at a community center to navigate an English system to get to whatever it was they were looking for- something in Spanish that looked like an online game show.

People who study literacy study this stuff- how images help the pre-literate navigate the world.

I mean, if you turn the sound off on most television shows, even ones aimed at toddlers, the expressions on the characters are of pain and fear and worry. It's really bizarre. I did not notice- I mean, if you are grownup, do you spend that much time looking at Mickey? Instead of listening to him? But my children were uneasy and kind of nervous about television shows.

The videos put out by independents around the world are far, far more careful and kind, with kindly expressions, and lots of repetition. Like, songs about honesty, colors, numbers, letters.
