Crowdsourcing investigative journalism

An international team of amateurs cracked the thin white-coated wall of silence that professional scientists were maintaining, with the full collusion of the mainstream media, to hide the fact that the coronavirus was a man-made bioweapon:

When the pandemic happened to break out on the doorstep of the lab with the largest collection of coronaviruses in the world, fueling speculation that the WIV might be involved, Daszak and 26 other scientists signed a letter that appeared in The Lancet on February 19, 2020. "We stand together to strongly condemn conspiracy theories suggesting that COVID-19 does not have a natural origin," it stated.

We now know, thanks to a Freedom of Information Act request, that Daszak orchestrated the letter to squelch talk of a lab leak. He drafted it, reached out to fellow scientists to sign it, and worked behind the scenes to make it seem that the letter represented the views of a broad range of scientists. "This statement will not have the EcoHealth Alliance logo on it and will not be identifiable as coming from any one organization or person," he wrote in his pitch to the co-signatories. Scientists whose work had overlapped with the WIV agreed not to sign it so they could "put it out in a way that doesn't link it back to our collaboration."

At the time, however, there was no hint of Daszak's organizing role. The letter helped make Daszak a ubiquitous presence in the media, where he called a lab-leak "preposterous," "baseless," and "pure baloney." He also attacked scientists who published evidence pointing to the lab. Part of the reason the lab theory made no sense, he argued, was because the Wuhan lab wasn't culturing any viruses remotely similar to SARS-CoV-2. (Daszak has not responded to Newsweek's request for comment.)

For a long time, Daszak was astonishingly influential. Few in the media questioned him or pointed out that his career and organization would be deeply damaged if it turned out his work had indirectly played a role in the pandemic....

By early 2020, The Seeker was beginning to question that viewpoint. He had begun to interact with people who were poking holes in the conventional wisdom. One important piece was an extensive Medium post by the Canadian longevity entrepreneur Yuri Deigin that discussed RaTG13, a virus Shi Zhengli had revealed to the world in a February 3 paper in the journal Nature. In that paper, Shi presented the first extensive analysis of SARS-CoV-2, which had seemed to come from nowhere—the virus was unlike any that had been seen before, including the first SARS, which had killed 774 people from 2002 to 2004. In her paper, however, Shi also introduced RaTG13, a virus that is similar in genetic makeup to SARS-CoV-2, making it the only known close relative at the time.

The paper was vague about where RaTG13 had come from. It didn't say exactly where or when RaTG13 had been found, just that it had previously been detected in a bat in Yunnan Province, in southern China.

The paper aroused Deigin's suspicions. He wondered if SARS-CoV-2 might have emerged through some genetic mixing and matching from a lab working with RaTG13 or related viruses. His post was cogent and comprehensive. The Seeker posted Deigin's theory on Reddit, which promptly suspended his account permanently.

That early whiff of censorship piqued Seeker's curiosity, so he read more of the Twitter group's ideas. "I found a lively group of people eager to debate and explore the topic," he told Newsweek by email.

It was an eclectic group. There were entrepreneurs, engineers, and a microbiologist from the University of Innsbruck named Rossana Segreto. None of them had known each other in advance; they gravitated to the forum after independently concluding that the conventional wisdom of the origins of COVID-19 didn't make sense. Conversations were kept on track by a wisecracking coordinator living somewhere in Asia who went by the pseudonym Billy Bostickson, and whose Twitter icon was a cartoon of a beat-up lab monkey.

The Seeker fit right in. "They helped me catch up on the debate, and I started to educate myself," he says. "Before I knew it, I got hooked into the mystery." He was driven in part by curiosity, but also by a growing sense of civic duty. "COVID has taken the lives of countless people and devastated so many others. But it has also left so many clues that haven't been followed up. Humanity deserves answers."

The Seeker and the rest of the group became increasingly convinced that RaTG13 might hold the key to some of those answers. In a crackling thread, half a dozen participants hashed out its mysteries, combing the internet and the WIV's previous papers for clues.

If there is a moment when the DRASTIC team coalesced into something more than its disparate parts, it would be this thread. In real time, for all the world to see, they worked through the data, tested various hypotheses, corrected each other, and scored some direct hits.

The key facts quickly came together. The genetic sequence for RaTG13 perfectly matched a small piece of genetic code posted as part of a paper written by Shi Zhengli years earlier, but never mentioned again. The code came from a virus the WIV had found in a Yunnan bat. Connecting key details in the two papers with old news stories, the DRASTIC team determined that RaTG13 had come from a mineshaft in Mojiang County, in Yunnan Province, where six men shoveling bat guano in 2012 had developed pneumonia. Three of them died. DRASTIC wondered if that event marked the first cases of human beings being infected with a precursor of SARS-CoV-2—perhaps RaTG13 or something like it.

In a profile in Scientific American, Shi Zhengli acknowledged working in a mineshaft in Mojiang County where miners had died. But she avoided connecting it to RaTG13 (an omission she had made in her scientific papers as well), claiming that a fungus in the cave had killed the miners.

That explanation didn't sit well with the DRASTIC group. They suspected a SARS-like virus, not a fungus, had killed the miners and that, for whatever reason, the WIV was trying to hide that fact. It was a hunch, and they had no way of proving it.

At this point, The Seeker revealed his research powers to the group. In his online explorations, he'd recently discovered a massive Chinese database of academic journals and theses called CNKI. Now he wondered if somewhere in its vast circuitry might be information on the sickened miners.

Working through the night at his bedside table on phone and laptop, fueled by chai and using Chinese characters with the help of Google Translate, he plugged in "Mojiang"—the county where the mine was located—in combination with every other word he could think of that might be relevant, instantly translating each new flush of results back to English. "Mojiang + pneumonia"; "Mojiang + WIV"; "Mojiang + bats"; "Mojiang + SARS." Each search brought back thousands of results and half a dozen different databases for journals, books, newspapers, master's theses, doctoral dissertations. He combed through these results, night after night, but never found anything useful. When he ran out of energy, he broke for arcade games and more chai.

He was on the verge of calling it quits, he says, when he struck gold: a 60-page master's thesis written by a student at Kunming Medical University in 2013 titled "The Analysis of 6 Patients with Severe Pneumonia Caused by Unknown Viruses." In exhaustive detail, it described the conditions and step-by-step treatment of the miners. It named the suspected culprit: "Caused by SARS-like [coronavirus] from the Chinese horseshoe bat or other bats."

This is a failure of scientistry as much as it is a failure of the media. Remember this in the future: neither the mainstream media nor the professional scientific community can be trusted to tell you the truth in any way, about anything. They will not even hesitate to directly lie to you, and will afterwards go to great lengths to mislead, to redirect, and to cover their tracks.

Daszak and every other signatory of that February letter in The Lancet should have their funding pulled immediately. This illustrates why science is not only not the enemy of Christianity, but to the contrary, is dependent upon it. The method doesn't mean a damn thing when the man utilizing it is corrupt.

What I'm not getting is from what I've seen, if this came from a lab in China, it was being funded by the U.S.. Some of the Fauci emails appear to reflect a certain amount of worry that this could be traced back to the west.
Yet I'm seeing comments along the lines of: "See?! This proves that the Chinese did this to attack us!"

Disclaimer: I've not gone through anywhere near all of this so it's very much quite possible that I'm missing something.
If China did this to attack the U.S., why would they start by releasing it on themselves first?
Why did the Red Cross find positive corona cases in Italy from months before this supposed lab thing happened?
If the virus is engineered, what is the purpose? It seems as though the theory that holds the most weight is that it requires something else (theories suggest the not-vax) because on its own, the virus is pretty lame.

The idea that a coronavirus in a bat developed human transmissibility at a food market a few blocks from a lab where they were studying bat coronaviruses and there was no connection between the two never passed the smell test for anyone with a lick of common sense. So we always knew it came from the lab; we just didn't know whether the release was accidental or intentional, or who exactly put it there in the first place.

The question is, why are they letting this out now? Why do they suddenly want to blame China, after a year of insisting China was innocent and damn-near making it a hate crime to say otherwise? Are they hoping that people will be more afraid of a lab-created virus than a natural one, so that will raise the vaxx numbers? Is China pushing their puppets in D.C. hard for the policy changes they paid for, and this is the puppets' way of pushing back and trying to maintain independence?

Yet another example of yesterday's "conspiracy theory" becoming today's news. How many times? How many times does this have to happen until people begin to recognize a pattern?

I admit it, I was there once. There was a time that I accepted the official narrative regarding the JFK assassination. However since then I've realized the truth that a lone coincidence MAY be just be that, but a series of "coincidences" is a pattern. And a pattern denotes intent.

It was verboten because of man made global wringing.

I did delete it and pretended everything changed for no reason. And not only got it approved, but published in a minor journal. That was quite a while ago. I can only imagine how bad the censorship and lying is in science and history, now.

People like Daszak and Fauci have their own personal/career/financial/staying out of jail reasons for covering this up. Unfortunately, everyone working in virology also has an interest, because this is microbiology's Chernobyl. It could affect the reputation and funding of research in the same way that Chernobyl and Fukushima damaged the nuclear industry. Scientists who speak out risk harming their own careers and those of everyone else in the field.

I have another question- why is Newsweek suddenly reverting back to reporting actual news?

Remember the lamestreet media never publishes anything without a reason or intent, usually to mislead (lie) or misdirect. Could this be the veil coming off a neoclown attempt to start a war with China, for punishment for China not doing something their masters want them to do?

Yet I'm seeing comments along the lines of: "See?! This proves that the Chinese did this to attack us!"

I'm not sure those two are mutually exclusive. It seems likely, or at least plausible, that China got their US puppets to provide funding for this attack on us.
Grandpa Lampshade wrote:If China did this to attack the U.S., why would they start by releasing it on themselves first?
It does kill mostly useless old people, so why not? A big outbreak there was all upside for them. And, it gave them cover to play the victim.

Also, most of the damage was done by the response to the virus: the lockdowns, the shutdowns, the deluge of panic porn. The fake videos of people dropping dead in Chinese streets which ``leaked'' to the West were the perfect kickoff for all of that. The disease itself would have had no economic impact without the official response pushed by Chinese puppets like Cuomo, Whitmer and Fauci.

Blogger Damelon Brinn June 03, 2021 11:34 AM

"If China did this to attack the U.S., why would they start by releasing it on themselves first?"

Let's say it was a bioweapon/population-reducer under development that was released prematurely by accident. They probably wouldn't know at first just how bad it might get, so their best move would be to make sure it spreads globally. That way whatever damage it did would be done equally, and not leave them at a disadvantage. Hence keeping international flights open.

Then after it was spread, they could magnify the economic damage in other countries by leaking out fake data making it look worse in China than it was, causing other countries (perhaps with nudges from infiltrators or bribed puppets in those governments) to lock down and ruin their own economies. That would help offset the harm done to China by the reduction in trade. If other countries weren't buying as much from China, at least they wouldn't be spinning up their own factories if they were afraid to go to work in them.

Which isn't to say "China did it, let's bomb them." Whatever they did, they weren't alone. There are plenty of other responsible parties that should be flushed out first.

Blogger Kingly Gift June 03, 2021 11:38 AM

2 points:

The 6 miners could have been killed by a combination of the virus and fungal pneumonia. These don't have to be mutually exclusive. In fact, even the spanish flu often killed people in combination with bacterial pneumonia (there's a paper with Fauci's name on it from years ago saying this.) This would also be in line with the observation that most people die with covid and other complications, not just covid alone.

Second, this is just my humble hypothesis, when Trump was claiming it was the Chinese that made the virus, that pretty much proved it was the fault of the western block liberal democracies in some way. Trump had no reason to insist it was China's fault, unless he was trying to defer blame away from America. Had Trump been smart, he would have thrown Fauci, and the whole scientific establishment under the bus immediately. But they must have had some leverage on him, and used his patriotism against him to turn him into a vaccine salesman early one in this debacle.

The only mystery now, is why are the Promethean's ok with letting the lab-leak theory have legs? Do they know it can't be contained and are just trying to get ahead of it, and setup Fauci (and maybe Gates, his divorce is curious timing) as sacrificial lambs, or do they have even more nefarious shenanigans in the works? Wait and see I guess, just don't take anything at face value.

>>>Maybe the dam is breaking and they want to be first? I don't look for particular motives originating from inside the media complex; they just follow what scripts they're allowed to read by authorities for the most part. Editorial control and reporters looking for promotions keeps more things under wraps than any exact and controlled 'plan' ever could.

As to the situation at large, it appears we're looking at what our tax dollars have been paying for since at least World War Part One. For a real killer pandemic, it seems there needs to be a component approach inside our own bodies - whether from the weapon + notvaccine, or from weapon + weapon - (no) notvaccine. Which does fill me with some hope. Either way, whether it's the notvaccinated who survive, or the un-notvaccinated, they really are depending on immune system breakdowns to get the football across the line.

The myth of global pandemic, man-made or natural, can thus not take us down as easily as the movie programming would have us believe. Keep those immune systems strong, people...

It became an attack of opportunity.

There are thousands of scientific journals and more prestigious titles such as The Lancet and Nature have high circulation, perhaps rivalling that of The Guardian newspaper, albeit weekly rather than daily. So despite their recondite nature they're a form of mass media themselves and consequently prime targets for corruption and convergence.

There is much truth in this statement. The thing you're failing to mention explicitly are the large numbers of white men - including many professing Christianity - who are quite willing to and even kill upon the orders of Jews and their many ticket-taking lackeys who command the media, government, military and law-enforcement. These are the ones who will need to be either convinced by a reality they refuse to see about the Satan's chosen ones (and walk away) or removed from any position - by whatever means necessary - from which they can defend their masters. Seems to have been released accidentally in the lab, lab workers and even a spouse of a lab worker were hospitalized. All the while they were unknowingly spreading this thing in Wuhan. The Chinese government cannot admit to what they were doing at the lab. It's bad enough they lose face by failing to contain it.

False positive seems most likely (like those paw paw tests). Another possibility if you're assuming accidental release is another early accidental transmission via a lab worker(s) with less serious symptoms that didn't put them in the hospital, who went to Italy or had contact with someone who did (I seem to recall early discussion that Italy was hit hard probably due to close coordination on Belt and Road).

“That was quite a while ago. I can only imagine how bad the censorship and lying is in science and history, now.”

Why imagine that that? Sounds like it was terrible back at the time you referenced. You set the groundwork for a foundation of deceit. Stunning admission. Thanks for self-identifying. Any other nefarious ruinous things you’ve been up to you’d like to get off your chest?

I think they got the meaning of DRASTIC wrong, or the use of the word "Autonomous" is intentional misdirection.

Here is the true meaning:

"Decentralized Radical Autistic Search Team Investigating COVID-19"

They literally did weaponize the autists. For. Real.

"One consequence has been a new found conviction that the germ theory of disease is severely lacking and that the entire field of virology is . . .. "

So much that was obscured by "science," media, and Yankee govt (but I repeat myself) has been revealed : Pasteur vs. Beauchamp and without clear resolution the former - like in Keynes vs. Hayek - being declared the winner with all his profitable interventions; Alfred Russel Wallace's scholarship about the ineffectiveness and dangerousness of injecting materials into people; Research by the US Armed Forces about the misnamed "Spanish Flu" and the very high incidences of bacterial and not viral pneumonia leading to death; Data that contradict the claims about injections stopping some diseases back along and about disease following injections such as in the Philippines; all the gobbledy-gook and cartoons about what exactly the thing is; how something that is not and never was alive has "ancestors" and can "evolve" and can "hijack." About the global warming thing, it all started with people brazenly and knavishly deleting the medieval warm period.

I read yesterday with interest that the media was also tried and executed at Nuremberg.

"Working through the night at his bedside table on phone and laptop, fueled by chai....more chai."

The "chai" reference sounded suspicious, the fact that he repeated it made it more so. "Chai" is the number 18 and "life" in Hebrew. Miles Mathis has pointed out the prevalence of "aces and eights" in their storytelling.

The link (a strong one economically and vis a vis transport links) was between China and textile factories near Florence that churn out garments reading "made in Italy" (by the Chinese textile workers). I think the Wall Street Journal and a lot of other pubs got on top of that.

The 1st Amendment to the US constitution effectively established the 4th branch of government.

The recent SCOTUS decision in FEDERAL COMMUNICATIONS COMMISSION ET AL. v. PROMETHEUS RADIO PROJECT ET AL. effectively completed a repeal of the 1st amendment.
