The liberal perspective on US decline

This is a long and thoughtful article on the decline of the USA from the perspective of a good liberal Democrat. It's worth reading, if only to see how completely the author manages to miss the point while rather comprehensively, for the most part, describing the Four Americas as he sees them.

Just America’s origins in theory, its intolerant dogma, and its coercive tactics remind me of 1930s left-wing ideology. Liberalism as white supremacy recalls the Communist Party’s attack on social democracy as “social fascism.” Just American aesthetics are the new socialist realism.

The dead end of Just America is a tragedy. This country has had great movements for justice in the past and badly needs one now. But in order to work, it has to throw its arms out wide. It has to tell a story in which most of us can see ourselves, and start on a path that most of us want to follow.

All four of the narratives I’ve described emerged from America’s failure to sustain and enlarge the middle-class democracy of the postwar years. They all respond to real problems. Each offers a value that the others need and lacks ones that the others have. Free America celebrates the energy of the unencumbered individual. Smart America respects intelligence and welcomes change. Real America commits itself to a place and has a sense of limits. Just America demands a confrontation with what the others want to avoid. They rise from a single society, and even in one as polarized as ours they continually shape, absorb, and morph into one another. But their tendency is also to divide us, pitting tribe against tribe. These divisions impoverish each narrative into a cramped and ever more extreme version of itself.

All four narratives are also driven by a competition for status that generates fierce anxiety and resentment. They all anoint winners and losers. In Free America, the winners are the makers, and the losers are the takers who want to drag the rest down in perpetual dependency on a smothering government. In Smart America, the winners are the credentialed meritocrats, and the losers are the poorly educated who want to resist inevitable progress. In Real America, the winners are the hardworking folk of the white Christian heartland, and the losers are treacherous elites and contaminating others who want to destroy the country. In Just America, the winners are the marginalized groups, and the losers are the dominant groups that want to go on dominating.

I don’t much want to live in the republic of any of them.

It’s common these days to hear people talk about sick America, dying America, the end of America. The same kinds of things were said in 1861, in 1893, in 1933, and in 1968. The sickness, the death, is always a moral condition. Maybe this comes from our Puritan heritage. If we are dying, it can’t be from natural causes. It must be a prolonged act of suicide, which is a form of murder.

I don’t think we are dying. We have no choice but to live together—we’re quarantined as fellow citizens. Knowing who we are lets us see what kinds of change are possible. Countries are not social-science experiments. They have organic qualities, some positive, some destructive, that can’t be wished away. Our passion for equality, the individualism it produces, the hustle for money, the love of novelty, the attachment to democracy, the distrust of authority and intellect—these won’t disappear. A way forward that tries to evade or crush them on the road to some free, smart, real, or just utopia will never arrive and instead will run into a strong reaction. But a way forward that tries to make us Equal Americans, all with the same rights and opportunities—the only basis for shared citizenship and self-government—is a road that connects our past and our future.

It's fascinating how concepts such as "immigration" and "offshoring" and "real wages" and "1965 Naturalization Act" and "surveillance society" don't even enter into the thought processes of the liberal attempting to understand the current situation. And it's informative to see that despite this, even the self-styled Smart American can see that the situation is untenable.

It's impossible to resolve the situation through dialogue because all of the assumptions upon which the dialogue is based are fake. The Smart Americans are not that Smart and their beloved credentials are fraudulent. The Free Americans are not Free. Many of the Real Americans are not actually Americans, and the Just Americans are neither just nor are most of them even actual Americans.

Crimestop. Which is why Uncle Jim's shill test is so useful:

"The shill test is not someone’s willingness to agree with our positions. There is no correct answer. In this it is the reverse of the Demon Worshipper test, which is a collection of ancient Christian positions that have long demonstrated effectiveness in weeding out those who pretend to agree with Christianity, while inwardly rejecting it. Demon Worshiper test is a bunch of words and positions that gives demon worshipers the feeling that they might catch on fire were they to say them, even as a lie.

The shill test is: Can the suspected shill even acknowledge his interlocutor's thought crime, not whether he will agree with his interlocutor, while the Demon Worshiper test demands that the suspected heretic or demon worshiper agrees with various ancient Christian doctrines.

It his ability to acknowledge other people’s thought crimes – to respond to thought crimes his interlocutor is saying, even if to argue against them."

Even the well-meaning modern man simply cannot comprehend the truth, because his crimestop prevents him from noticing that the horse in the room is actually a deer.

I never thought our new privileged overclass would have an 85IQ average and no impulse control at all.

Now that blacks are not being charged for many crimes, and that reparations money is coming, it will be interesting to see what 2026 looks like.

These shootings typically happen 5 or 6 times a week here, but usually no kids get killed. https://www.freep.com/story/news/nation/2021/06/20/michigan-state-police-detroit-freeway-shooting-2-year-old-killed/7764694002/

This guy is kind of like a medieval physician relying on Hippocratic medicine to diagnose a disease. His entire worldview, while sounding completely logical and correct to his ears, is completely and totally wrong. Therefore, not only can he not understand and diagnose the causes of the problems he sees, he is 180 degrees in the wrong direction from the real causes.

At this point in our history, the differences are more than intellectual, cultural, or whatever. The differences are spiritual. And that isn’t to say that everyone who sees clearly is good and those who don’t are bad. It is simply to say that some are allowed to see and some aren’t. And there is no earthly mechanism for opening someone’s eyes.

He can't be this ignorant of history, so I guess this is wishful thinking: "I don't want this 'proposition nation' experiment to end, so it won't, and we'll just figure it out." That might have been true when everyone (at least whites) agreed that it was worth trying, so we could sort of fake it with plenty of flag-waving and Pledge-reciting, as long as there was plenty of wealth to spread around. But now conservative whites and a few nostalgic liberals are the only ones who still want it to work the way it used to. Blacks certainly don't. Asians don't. Hispanics don't. Jews don't. Most liberal whites don't, not if it means compromising with those they hate. And normal whites are wearing down and starting to question what they're hanging onto.

I've noticed how flags have changed in my white rural area. You used to see lots of US flags, and pretty much just those. After the coup, some people still fly it defiantly, but others fly it at half-mast or have left their flagpoles bare. Some only fly their Trump 2020 flags that are now getting tattered. Other flags like the Appeal to Heaven pinetree flag and the Don't Tread on Me flag are making appearances here and there. That's the first tangible sign that people are realizing it's over. They aren't sure what to do about it yet, or even what can be done, but the first step is happening.

"Smart America respects intelligence and welcomes change."
>>>Translation in the lib-mind: Dumb America respects faith and fears change.
>>>Translation into reality: Smart America respects the intellect and forces change.

Logical fallacy: Appeal to novelty. Change being natural, it's obviously always required. This is how 30% of the population formerly of the west walked away from the west and left it forever. They were given talking points that appeal to their midwit philosophy of ego flattering and change in certain directions;
"We _need_ immigration. We _need_ to fight climate change. The more intelligent see this change as inevitable."
All that remains to be seen is the result of them leaving the west. Will they mortally wound it on their way to the grave, or will there be a separation? The nature of that separation is of course a whole other subject.

I believe much of what happens in the black community goes back to this Scripture and the talk of "reparations" and "injustice"...

Matthew 6:14 For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:

15 But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

When reparations come, it will be an interesting time in the black community as the terminal class starts machine gunning their neighbors for their debit cards. Even John and Jane Q. Public will soon realize there's a problem when their black coworkers get a sizable influx of cash, to which they themselves have no part in, save the massive debt that their great great great grandchildren get to pay for.

We certainly live in interesting times....

This sentence deserves a full fisking:

Our passion for equality,

No one still believes in equality except civnats. For everyone else it's a crowbar for prying more money out of the pockets of whites.

the individualism it produces,

I don't even know what "individualism produced by equality" means. But I don't see much individualism in the mobs tearing down statues or the Karens trying to force masks and injections on people. Again, an admiration for individualism is restricted to a couple specific groups.

the hustle for money,

Oh, like the millions of people who have decided (perhaps sensibly) that as long as they're able to live on stimulus money, they'll pass on gainful employment? The younger generations especially are getting a sense that money can't be trusted, so why hustle for it?

the love of novelty,

Guess I'll give him that one. You can't get much more "novel" than phrases like "feminine penis." At least I hope not.

the attachment to democracy,

Like "equality," this is only true of civnats. For others it's a weapon to be used when helpful and ignored otherwise. If all his groups cared about democracy, the man who won the election would still be president.

the distrust of authority and intellect-

Like the people who wore masks because the people who had told them not to wear masks changed their tune, and then got injections they didn't need because the TV and social media told them to? Yeah, we're loaded with real anti-authoritarians these days. You can sense the Boomer talking here; it's always 1968 and they always imagine themselves fighting against The Man, even though they became The Man decades ago.

these won’t disappear.

They already have except for one segment of the population, which is starting to catch on.

His logorrheic outpouring is typical of the over-educated ignorati who make a living writing mush for wimps. I doubt that he has ever engaged in social intercourse with any blue collar Americans or their antagonists, the feral American Negro. He would greatly benefit from doing so, which would have the immediate and salutary effect of causing the scales that have accumulated on his eyes from excessive time spent reading in his ivory tower to fall away. Whether he would survive his encounter with a feral Negro is doubtful, but even is he should not, it would improve the overall health of society. Kind of addition by subtraction, if you will.

The good liberal Democrat describes his Four Americas as if they were four socioeconomic classes or four separate personality types or four eye colors. None of them are actually new. WE have had all of this since colonial times, but something has changed, like a crack in a load-bearing beam. Nobody seems to know when the crack appeared, or what caused it (with any certainty), or how fast it is spreading, or when the beam will fail. But everyone is in agreement that the beam is cracked and at some point it will fail. This starts the fear, which I suppose is only natural.

If the Four Americas have been around since colonial times, something must have changed fairly recently. Was it the Media (the official Umpire in the game) that got more blatant and open about biased calls and outright lies? Was it the discard of important parts of the Constitution, that define the Federal Republic? WE could spend the rest of the day guessing at the causes that might have caused the crack in the beam.

I am not going to do that. The beam cracked because it became brittle. It cracked because it was no longer flexible or elastic. It cracked because one or more of the Four Americas demanded that the others surrender unconditionally, without discussion or negotiation or backtalk, lay down your arms, and stick out your neck for decapitation. Submit because you are wrong and your ancestors were wrong and everything that defined the country for many generations is NOW wrong too. Lipservice and accommodation and money compensation in the form of Tribute for Peace is not going to cut it. One of the Four Americas wants it all and the other three will either be destroyed or submit to a forever slavery, in dhimmitude to their rightful and just masters. That means there will be war, of the usual kind, not just a war of words or an economic war or a trade war or a war of ideas. A war that will decide which of the Four Americas will prevail, or what lands will be dominated or occupied by them, and what laws will be applied afterward. It would not be wrong to liken it to a crusade or religious war on the part of each of the Four Americas.

Yes. The very problem is that between races and ideology and race ideology, not enough people are willing to look at their other and still decide to treat them equally, with dignity and respect. Liberals will consider ANY issue EXCEPT the real ones when declaring their worries about the future of America.

That is because they DO NOT want a solution--- they just want rationalizations.

To you and me the word "patriotism" means that you and I are being loyal to our own people and to ourselves.

That is the absolute opposite of what the word "patriotism" means to the media, the government, and other ruling institutions.

The Libtard establishment insists that American freedom and prosperity have nothing to do with you and me -- American freedom and prosperity exists entirely because of the system we live under, the one that belongs to the mulitcult establishment.

So America is not a great place to live because of you and me. America is a great place to live because of the SYSTEM you and I live UNDER.
With this firmly in mind, if you listen carefully to the present drumbeat for "patriotism" you will see what I mean.

Today's patriotism means that you and I and the rest of our people are not free and prosperous and the target of massive immigration because you and I and other Americans have, as a people, any special qualities.

No one who immigrates needs to be grateful to US. We are NOT blessed because we live in the country that we rule.

Today's "patriotism" directs all loyalty to the System. Today's "patriotism" directs all gratitude to the System. All hail the System!

Today's "patriotism" declares that we are a nation of immigrants. This means that any group of people who happen to live under this System would do just as well. All we are is people who are lucky enough to live under their System.

Under their idea of the Constitution an alien is as good as a citizen, and the only difference is some documents, as in "undocumented aliens."

If you listen closely you will notice that when a Liberals uses the word "patriot," it always means the exact opposite of what you and I and the Founding Fathers always took that word to mean.

They are not worried about the future of the American PEOPLE, they are worried about the future of their 'Globohomo System'

"This country has had great movements for justice in the past and badly needs one now. But in order to work, it has to throw its arms out wide. It has to tell a story in which most of us can see ourselves, and start on a path that most of us want to follow."

That's simply not going to happen, and I dislike to say it, but it order for that to happen a lot of us are going to have to die, because we're invested in the corruption, body and soul.

"Real America"

Is the immutable core. It may live or die, but all the other pieces are necessarily subject to it. Just-America has no context, no meaning, no existence without Real-America. Smart-America does not exist and is dying without the real people of Real-America. Free-America is lower priority than all the others, and is in-itself lacking context to determine if it is even needful.

Many people don't recognize or intentionally misconstrue Real-America, but that's going to change violently no matter what.

"In Smart America, the winners are the credentialed meritocrats, and the losers are the poorly educated who want to resist inevitable progress."

That's not Smart-America. That's Vain-America and Self-Righteous America.

"In Just America, the winners are the marginalized groups"

That's not Just-America. That's Not-America. By any definition that involves unity or cohesion, it is NECESSARILY Not-America.

"I don’t think we are dying."

You should have stopped after the first three words. Everything of Man dies. The better question is whether we are being murdered, and you are of course gaslighting that one.

"We have no choice but to live together—we’re quarantined as fellow citizens."

You have to go back.

"Countries are not social-science experiments."

The USA unfortunately is, and it was set up that way by the founders. Probably not intentionally on most or all of their parts, but it's the inevitable result of having the separate but necessarily related entities that we call states.

The idea of having separate states, as test-beds and control groups under a central governing mechanism may not have been the original plan, but it's a retrospectively obvious and convenient structure for social experimentation and development. Some times a thing is just too obvious, too convenient, and too easy to not be exploited, and the USA is such a thing in this regard. I realized the potential in my early teens, and surely I was far from the only one.

"some non specified force of national cohesion"

Mostly this results from a web of complex financial and material interdependencies bound with Federal Reserve Notes. Once the FRN fails sufficiently, the façade of cohesion will disappear. We're getting just a small preview of this with the shortages and gross distortions in business sectors ranging from semiconductors to real estate.

Well, that's obviously false. What would be better is actually understanding what the Good Samaritan did for his "neighbor" rather than trying to "lawyer" your way into a different understanding of what "neighbor" means than what Christ clearly said. That's where the parable is mis-used; the Samaritan didn't invite the victim into his house. He certainly didn't invite the bandits who robbed and beat the victim into his house.

After submitting 20 papers and finding that nearly every crazy topic he and his co-conspirators could think of, there were Leftists from decades past who had gone far further, he says this was like pulling the tarp back further ... he found a mass grave in academia, in peer reviewed journals: Great interview in the Why Wasn't I told this about Conservatives section here

I wonder what his answer would be if I asked him to define "progressive". Something "forward thinking"? Would that mean something that broke with the old, rejecting conventional thought from the time when "conventional" thinking was molded by the media? Farther back? Maybe just tradition in general. There's a lot of talk about facepunching Liberals and Boomers here on this forum. The good news is that many of them are cowards. Vox has repeatedly mentioned that a good deal of the backslide here was because "Conservatives" said nothing. Logic and clear-headed thinking are on your side... even Liberals like Lindsay can see it.

I also note that just because those who resist CRT are going to get shouted down and maybe even punched in the face like Andy Ngo, it doesn't mean that other people see this and agree on the CRT side. It doesn't mean they don't hear your words or... that you simply lifted up the arms of the person sticking their neck out for the anti-CRT point of view.

I dunno what's worse, the silly reduction into 4 categories (now isn't THAT American), or the insistence on defining that of himself and his friends as the "smart" one.

Notably absent are Stoned America, Dumb America, Feral America, Degenerate America, Entitled America (boy is that a big group) and Mentally Ill America. Among others.

Anyhow, the future belongs to the ones who are reproducing. Which eliminates most of the white people in what he categorizes as "smart" and "just" America. Everybody has noted that if the not-vax is intended as a genocidal bioweapon, it would wipe out white leftists, leaving mostly blacks, hispanics, and traditionalist whites. (Asians would be decimated) But regardless of what the not-vax does, it appears that reproductive trends will eventually produce the same outcome. Either way, this gets us to whites being about 50% of the population, but with virtually all of what is currently defined as leftism gone from their ranks. So "real" and "free" America inevitably win, one way or another.

Adversity certainly encourages and develops individualism, among many other things, but Equality certainly does not. Rugged Individualists shun Equality, and they don't have a passion for it. This is crazy, faggy talk.

Equality 'produces' nothing, because not having to work to get ahead means nothing gets produced. Equality in a society, especially when forced upon by Government, generates laziness of the mind, soul and body. It is failure writ large.

Agreed. Not only is the parable misused, often it is not even fully understood along the lines of history, the lexicon of the Hebrew Bible and the polemics of "the stranger at your gates" with an understanding of time-space (When/Where).

This can be grasped fully when one reads of Sodom. It's made abundantly clear that the city is not a safe place when it should have been (wicked, lawless inhabitants) and its doomed future.

You're looking at it as if the black person already imitated the Samaritan. You're playing the fool. You know perfectly well that the average black person more closely resembles the waylaying robbers than any other character in the parable. The parable is an answer to the questions "Who is my neighbor?" Jesus then asks at the end "Who was a neighbor to the wounded man?" The man replies "The one who showed him mercy."

Notice it is not the wounded man who is neighbor to the Samaritan, but the Samaritan who is pointed out as neighbor to the wounded man. In other words, love those who do good to you as you love your own self. Jesus did not correct the man and say "Yes, but also the men who robbed an beat him were his neighbors, as were the men who passed him by."

Are these four not the inevitable fracturing of the radical Whigs who founded this country? Isn't Moldbug's primary point that the American nation was always a 'Leftist' one. There never was a true 'Right' in America; those who founded the country were anti-Right by self-definition. These four strands have existed since the beginning, and this fracturing was inevitable even if the country stayed white and Protestant.

Even the earliest white natives, however more legitimate than today's Americans, seemed more interested in whatever they understood as freedom, than following Christ.

Until conservatives and liberals alike (terms I use loosely) recognize that the basic unit of society is the family, and not the individual, neither group will understand that the nation (ethnos) is the extension of the family and therefor must be nourished like a family. The first step in restoring the nation is expelling the interlopers from the family home.

It's great that you're recommending James Lindsay. Without leaving atheism behind (at the time of this posting....) he's moved away from New Atheism to a position of genuine appreciation for the contributions traditional Christians have made to Western culture, and for the contributions Salt-of-the-Earth Christians continue to make today. He is passionate about helping those Christians succeed in keeping Wokeism out of their schools, denominations, places of business. James Lindsay reminds me of the character in CS Lewis' Space Trilogy who did as much as an atheist could to help Christians in their battle of Good vs. Evil (the ironically named N.I.C.E. organization.)

The founders referred to the seperate states with their own laws as "laboratories" of government.

Also, in the Gettysburg Address, Lincoln made note that the U.S. was set up as an experiment in government of, by, and for the people.

And it worked when it was actually allowed to be that. The problem is that popular government has been undermined. When the entire Federal executive branch was patronage, electing a new president meant bringing in a new bureaucracy as well, with a very high amount of replacement by the end of the 4 year term. The "professional" unionized, can't be fired, even for lesser felonies bureaucracy is a significant part of the problem. Only petty tyrants want to spend 20+ years telling their neighbors and fellow citizens how to live.

The strictures of European ancestry, Christian religion, and the resultant moral character being necessary for the experiment to workably perpetuate, they did not and/or could not provide sufficient strictures to maintain these necessities. As to why they don't listen, Jim and his following think it's Crimestop - the liberal is subconsciously blocking himself from understanding, for fear of being "contaminated" by politically incorrect thoughts.

I suspect rather that the liberal does not listen because he or she is simply not interested in what anyone else is actually saying. They prefer the sound of their own voices.
